I think she alone, ruined the show.

I'm a really big TLOU fan like bigger than you could imagine that's my preface to this because it might sound nitpicky or like I'm looking at everything under a microscope (I am) I never came to really like Bella as Ellie. I feel like I'm alone where I stand because one side is all people going "She doesn't look like Ellie!" and the other side is "She was perfect as Ellie!" and I think both sides are wrong. Removing issues I have with appearance or little writing details from my perception of her and I still just don't FULLY see it. She's REALLY good during scenes where she's like yelling and getting traumatized LOL like chopping up David's head and when Henry shoots himself in front of her she gives really convincing yells and usually actors sound weird when they yell. It's just the pacing of her dialogue that throws me off. Her mouth is kinda weird (NOT VISUALLY) and it almost sounds like she has a speech impediment at times which makes her kinda stumble over lines. The "You have no idea what loss is" scene in episode 6 is a good example because when she goes "So don't tell me that I'd be safer with someone else because the truth is I'd just be more scared" it just doesn't come out right and I wish they did another take. There are other times on top of that where I feel like she's reading lines as snappy instead of like passive aggressive like the "your watch is broken" scene at the end of episode 1. idk. I just don't fully see it and the reason is the way she talks above all else. I just think the weird speech really throws off the dialogue. Ashley as Ellie in the game is just so like curious and hopeful but Bella reads the same lines as annoyed. My big takeaway is that I'm scared for the future of the show because I think Pedro did a pretty good job but you know. He's not around forever LOL. I just don't know if Bella can carry an entire show on her back while tripping through certain lines because her voice and speech are weird. I feel bad saying it but man there are some bad deliveries from her. Regardless I have faith and I think she'll pull of more than she doesn't. I'm always hoping for the best for my favorite franchise at the end of the day

She doesn't capture ellie at all. Pedro os a passing joel tho imo. The whole show is just bad and lazy tbh

I feel bad for her, but honestly I feel like the reason I didn't like her was the way she was written, Ellie was so snobby, annoying, stuck up, and obnoxious. Her and the changes the writers made are the reason I disliked the show

Personally. I don’t like how much control they have Ellie over Joel in a way. Idk Joel the adult. And at times or more. Ellie overshadows the adult role

I don’t feel bad for her at all, she chose a large acting role and therefore opened her self up too criticism and trolling online. Like pay me her salary for that show and you guys can all trash me all you want.

I wasn't a fan of her in the series. I'll get this out of the way, she nails certain scenes. She's not necessarily a bad actor, but I'd say it's her take on Ellie's personality that's a little bit cringeworthy.

I heavily disagree with Last of Us "breaking the video game curse", because that curse was broken by Detective Pikachu and the video game adaptations were basically on a roll since then with only a few minor mistakes here and there like "Uncharted" and Halo season 1.

Bella is a terrible Ellie for me because game Ellie for me is defined in her almost drastic duel sides. On one side you have the survivor side of Ellie who's the fowl mouthed kid who's skilled and experienced for her age (many of those skills Bella's character doesn't have), however game Ellie can also take a sudden 180 and show off her childhood innocence and naivety which is why so many players got attached to her. Bella on the other hand from the episodes I'm seeing has only ever been able to demonstrate one expression, which is creepy. Even when she's reenacting a scene from the game like the joke book scenes, she still comes off as creepy. This is made even worse because it almost feels like Craig Mazin was aware how much Bella was a bad casting choice (but still kept her for whatever reason), so he flipped the dynamic between Joel and Ellie completely on it's head. Where in the game, Joel's loss of Sarah clearly changed him as he's more cold if not outright has a resentment for humanity while Ellie was portrayed as the optimistic side of humanity that eventually helps Joel connect with his old self. On the show however apparently Sarah's loss meant nothing to Joel outside it simply being a bad day (I might be mistaken, but I don't think TV Joel is even carrying Sarah's watch) and the guy was able to easily move on while still trying to be this good natured, reasonable man in a chaotic world who still wants to be a good father and a symbol of hope. Okay I might be exaggerating on that last part, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that's how Craig wants to portray Joel. While Bella's character is the otherside. That's not even an exaggeration either as some of Craig's commentary seems like he's purposely trying to portray Bella's character as a psycho at times.

Also looks does matter for casting especially if it's an existing franchise. Here's some examples off the top of my head. When that Sonic the Hedgehog movie first trailer came out and people saw the creepy Sonic design, what was their reaction to it? How about Uncharted with Tom Holland and Marky Mark not looking anything like their game counterparts? How about their reaction to Ruby Rose and that black woman they got to play "Batwoman"? How about when Justin Chatwin played Goku? How about the casting of the kids in that Avatar Last Airbender abomination but M Night? I could go on with this list. I tread Bella the exact same way I treat those other casting choices. Heck the one adaptation I think people are being too overly harsh on is that Borderlands movie. That one I feel is like 50/50 on if it does a good job or not and people are being extremely nitpicky with it. Such as Lilith and Tannis are too old. Despite they're both played by Oscar winning actors with a good track record, and one of them, Jamie Lee Curtis is actually a fan of the games and been using her Oscar win to get into the franchises she's actually passionate about, but being too old is all people see. Or Jack Black not sounding exactly like Claptrap. I actually am of the boat that they should've just have casted the original voice actor for the character, but much like Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack also has a proven track record. So I'm sure those 3 will deliver even if they're not 100% like the characters people remembers from the games. Or that Tiny Tina's dialogue feels a bit off and the actor doesn't exactly give off the entire over the top performance people remember of Tina. Or that Eli Roth writing and directing the movie is signs it's going to be bad. Now I agree Eli is a unproven to be a talented writer or director, but he's a fan of the games (probably the main reason how he got the job) and it looks like Borderlands. There might be some things a bit off because of Eli's limited skill set, but for the most part I'm feeling Borderlands from the trailer. Kevin Hart however is understandable since Kevin Hart has only ever proven to be able to play Kevin Hart. However the trailer can also be purposely deceiving since Avi Arad is a producer and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he purposely made the trailer come off like Guardians of the Galaxy-esque to try and excite people for the movie. Since neither Eli or Lionsgate have ever really cared for the superhero genre.

I think she is doing good as ellie, although she dosent look like the game character that dosent bother me, her acting is what is important for me. Good video

I think Bella Ramsey is doing great as Ellie. All the characters feel familiar from the versions in the game while it also feels like the actors are bringing their own flavor into it. I guess bc the creators didn’t want the cast to play the game before filming so they don’t mimic the performances from the game. Either way, I agree. The show is great, the casting is great. I love it
