The first official document of the Holy Saviour in St. George dates back to 986, when the territorial boundaries of the church are mentioned in the Codex Cavensis. In 1511, the church obtained the title of parish and later that of archpriesthood, while in 1542 the Confraternity of St. Mary of Loreto was founded. Over the centuries, the church was enlarged and enriched with chapels, altars and goods of all kinds, but towards the 19th century it began to suffer from increasing decay until in 1853, partly due to its perched location, its parish title was abolished and it was replaced by two newly built parish churches. The present church corresponds to the chapel of the confraternity, as only a few ruins remain of the historical church. The bell tower dates back to the Middle Ages and currently houses three bells, one of which dates back to the 16th century and two recent ones, cast in 2019 from the bronze of the two old minor bells, dated 1774 and 1776 respectively.
