Belly Buttons, by Gordon Stout
Anthony Di Bartolo, drum set
Marco Schirripa, marimba
Program notes (by Gordon Stout):
This is a virtuoso work for marimba and drum set. It was written for Marco Schirripa (marimba) and Anthony DiBartolo (drum set) who premiered it at Zeltsman Marimba Festival 2015 at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
I consider it the logical extension of Incoming (drum set and marimba - 2002) and Outgoing (marimba, piano, timpani and two percussion - 2011). A belly button can be either an "inny" or an "outy" which is therefore the title of this work. There is a quote from the music from the Woody Woodpecker cartoons, if you can catch it!

DrummerBoyUU I appreciate you explaining it but I’ll never understand why people can’t just make a solo that makes sense😂

Also it might sound weird to you because of the weird time signature changes

@@maxfoster7245 it takes a musician who has listen to music extensively and understand theory to truly appreciate what is going on. It makes sense to a bunch of people and there are other pieces out there that "dont make sense" but those are some of the most influential percussionist of all time.
