Hello guys! First point, in an automatic tension system the first reason the belt squeaks and makes noises is because the pulleys are misaligned. In our case and other brands as well, it is the automatic tensioner that loses its position and deflects the belt causing it to be in tremendous lateral effort.
In that case, being an older belt, it is a matter of time before it starts to fall apart and as a consequence bits of it will also end up inside the cavities of the timming belt. Knowing the importance of the timming belt's function... it's not good at all, right?
I reinforce once again the importance of the good dynamic functioning of the alternator pulley!

Easier way to get belt back on is when taking off lock the tensioner with an Allen key if it has the hole.

It's so funny because I was also confused with that modified pulley, but when i attached it, everything was just fine. Also changed the crankshaft pulley to the modified version so funny to see someone go through the same process. I guess this is also the 1.9 JTD(m) engine? And I ALSO! tried to get the belt on, the way you did. It took me so long and so much power. I finally taped the belt on some pulleys and asked someone to make sure it's on every pulley, while I was holding on to the tensioner. Have never seen such a stupid thing. Why don't they have a locking pin on the tensioner?! I've seen them having it on the same engine, when in Opel cars for example. Cheers!

Hello. That belt is hard to put in but on the floor is the worse, and not having a very long 15mm spanner like in the workshop is asking for a knuckle on the fender! Some belts are easier that others too. On 159 and Opels is different and so easier too, but the principles of the malfunction are exactly the same.

@@alfaromeonoproblem Yes I did it just on jack stands and with my normal DIY tools too! I'm only waiting for some component to fail and having to take it off and put on a new one. And I already thought the timing belt tensioner was a hassle! I'm impressed you did this on your own! 😅

On the timing there is a special tool to do so, but I will show how to do it with normal tools. Maybe this year

Thanks for this video! 2:36 its also called RIBE bolt. 1:03 Did you say you did not change the components for 15 years, except for the tensioner? :D How is that possible?

Sorry for the late reply. KZfaq did not show this to me. Thanks for the tip on the RIBE bolt. And yes, all original components from factory. Once the alternator pulley locked up I replaced it right away. Not putting stress on the crankshaft pulley

Hello, my alfa romeo 159's water coolant suddenly vanished without me realizing. After driving for some time I noticed smoke coming out of the engine and after a bit of panicing I realized it was the water coolant tank empty, I have so far replaced it with water till I have it replaced but now the engine does the same squeeky noise you have at the beginning of the video. Is it advisable to apply what I am assuming is WD-40 spray that you have at like 0:10?

Hello. You can apply the wd 40 no problem. But I believe the squeaky noise may be collant on the belt. Make sure to find the leak first, it may be causing the squeal.

my question is ... in every new pulley part-box is this little washer included, does the 1.9L 8V 85kW 115PS Diesel engine of the 156 need this washer or not? I guess not ...

@@alfaromeonoproblem i renewed no timing-belt, waterpump, and the pulley + tensioner ... and the pulley is slightly creaming by having a little bit contact to the plastic cover, which cannot be adjusted more accurate. I put a small washer between and hope the belt don´t jump off

you also can use the green one GA/R ... recommended @ all 159 and likewise usable @ 156 ... i recommend Zentralhydrauliköl (green one) from LiquiMoly in Germany

Is it okay if I rotate the crankshaft by accident while I am removing the crank pulley? I see you were holding it still while u were removing 4 bolts that hold it. Thanks

No problem. That engine is a real pain to do that job. And for the alternator pulley factory says to remove the engine.
