Who knows how far he could have gone. The judges blundered this! His breadth of knowledge is infinite. He was a joy to watch. I rarely root for contestants. I want to see him against James the Villain

I was sad that Ben lost, and I was kind of hoping he would have kept his run going and I have to say WOW, nine runaways was IMPRESSIVE and despite being shy of SUPER CHAMPION, Ben will ALWAYS be a SUPER CHAMPION to me.

It's only now that i realized... Ben Chan on one ocassion won a point by providing the right pronunciation to the correct spelling of a "response" ( game 2: metamorphosis and metamorphoses) . . . and then his winning streak was ended by misspelling a "correct response" to the game's FJ. Oh, life! But i have a feeling he'll win the TOC he'll be on.

How would the judges rule if the final jeopardy question was “what is a verdict?” but spelled it “verdick” instead?

Ben Chan was not robbed and I don't understand why some people think that. He misspelled the last name to make it a different last name. He does not need to be brought back; he lost. Rules are rules. Get over it.

I find this an odd decision because based on many previous episodes wrong spelling has usually been forgiven in “final jeopardy”.

@@SCarboni “t” is silent. Pronunciation is still the SAME. No phonetic difference in -dic(t) vs -dick. Certain names, while spelled differently, are still pronounced the same.

They rule against it if the pronunciation changes because of the misspelling. Benedict and Benedick are different pronunciations. It seems a bit strange since he was only a letter off the correct response, but it is consistent with how they've done things in the past.

She even said the black lady was correct even though she misspelled it...I've seen and heard that misspelling in final jeopardy is ok...hundreds of times. Get some balls and man up to your wrong doing and bring him back.

That’s precisely what I said! Can’t believe they penalized him for that. I guess when in doubt, leave silent syllables out if you don’t wanna get screwed in Final Jeopardy. Outrageous bs ruling

@@SCarboni pronunciation is the same. Many versions of the same name are spelled differently eg: Cristina, Christina, Kristina, Krystina etc. but they’re all pronounced the same. It’s basic logic! In this specific case, the “t” is silent so -dict and -dick are pronounced the same. This is not uncommon, many names function in this manner. What’s important to stress is the fact that: colloquially, it’s accepted as a spelling variation on a name that IS pronounced the SAME. And Jeopardy is flexible and has in the past accepted colloquial responses

@@SCarboni I think they accept a phonetic spelling. The real answer was Benedick. So Benedic would sound the same. Who knows though, seems like Jeopardy sometimes makes up rules on the fly.

I totally agree with those who say that Ben was robbed. The hosts always say that they do not penalize the contestants for incorrect spelling in Final Jeopardy. WHY DID THE RULES CHANGE FOR BEN? He should be brought back!!

Ben Chan should have been the winner in this confusion. He still gave the right answer despite the wrong spelling. The other contestant's answer to the question was definitely a wrong answer. Technicality as to the wager amount should be overruled. Right answers first, all the rest follows.

Ben Chan was ROBBED! That was cheap. The Benedict/Benedick distinction was an irritating subtlety. How did Shakespeare get the 'Benedick' version of the name anyways? Early Cockne rhyming slang?

Even he knew that he wrote the wrong name not just misspelled. Misspellings are different than writing the wrong word/name.

@@SCarboni NOPE. Your last name, “Carboni,” for example can also be spelled: Carbonie, Carbonii, Carbonnie, Carbony, or Carboné. It’s pronounced the same but spelled differently. The same logic follows for Benedict and Benedick. The “t” is silent and both names are pronounced the SAME. It’s even colloquially regarded as the same name spelled differently but pronounced the SAME. This is just like what you’d find in common variations of the spelling of Christina i.e. Kristina, Krystina, Chrystina etc. So his final jeopardy question-answer should have been correct bc it IS a phonetically acceptable pronunciation.

Ben Chan was ROBBED. How many times have the permitted misspellings to count. Alex Trebeck has even said on multiple occasions "We don't penalize you for bad spelling". I will no longer watch Jeopardy since you change the rules. Benedict means Blesses in Latin.

How can you rule his answer incorrect after hundreds of misspelled answers and after the blak ladies answer within the week to be said to be correct because spelling isn't a factor in final Jeopardy...Bring his butt back because you guys were wrong!!!!!!! He answered it correctly...
