Search for "Benny Elton". Absolutely brilliant

I was 15 when this aired. I've got to admit it did seem like a golden era for both music and comedy at the time. After the last series of Blackadder, which he co-authored, and The Man from Auntie (1989), and the novel 'Stark', I lost interest. But....they were classic times. 👌

1:30 - JESUS, £1.50 a pack of cigarettes in 1986. Bloody hell! I know the purchasing power was different back then, just when you hear £1.50 a pack, you think lucky bastards in 1986.

I watched this at 1.5x speed and didn't even notice until I clicked on the next video. Just "Yep, that's old 'Motormouth' Ben, as per".

People in these comments forgetting that modern style stand up comedy was still new to the UK at this time. Look at some of the corny ass rehash 'take my wife please' vaudeville type comedy that was still going around back in the early 80s.

It's good to see so many of US oldies are searching our past to find out what the f happened to our lives BEN Elton was revolutionary HIS shtick was individual fragility not hate filled use of devisive language ONE of his regular comment that stuck with me was ..WE ARE ALL LITTLE FARTIES TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF LIFE THIS IS a Human truism So MUCH hate for political correctness but as James o brien says ... it's simply about ordinary folk wanting a chance at an average life free of hate ... no one wants to steal the rights and freedoms of others THIS has been corrupted by the far right in America and imported to the UK in the form of WOKEISM AND CULTURE WARS ITS ALL LIES ... TRUST ME ... LOVE AND PEACE WHOMSOEVER YOU ARE ...

It's a bit more complicated than that. Look what Elton's lot did to Lenny Henry. Was Delbert Wilkins an Uncle Tom? Nah. Theophilus P. Wildebeast? Was ok for Eddie Murphy to take the mick out of James Brown. These days Sir Len after trying hard to eat himself to death has reinvented himself into a disgrace. See political correctness in the context of the Kalergi Plan. Suddenly to be English was to be a racist. Elton was part of that paving the way for the invasion. A total phoney. Judge by the fruits.

Takes me back. When he meant something. Before he sold his soul to Andrew Lloyd Webber. Shame 😣

In 1986 I was 14 ... and this set seemed childish to me then. He used it again 5 years later in _The Man from Auntie_. Still, nostalgia.

Do you mean the actual comedy material or the physical set behind him? The first I assume.

When I was 9, I started talking like B A Baracus. Imagine taking on another's accent in your 20s! It's so bizarre, you'd have to live a parallel life to self-justify it. I'm real ising, this country is more unequal now than at any time since 're first world war. It's a disgrace! Thanks Benjamin🤔

0:53 - "The longer this government stays in the more tense and nervous we all get" - Said in 1986, and in 1987 Thatcher won another landslide victory despite this, and then when the Prince of Grey John Major took over in 1990 and won the 1992 general election, keeping the Tory government in until 1997. Tense and nervous for another 11 years it seems Ben Elton was.

I did like Ben Elton and still find him funny but he sold out
@SurvivorofHorror2 жыл бұрын
He didn't sell out. This type of comedy was a way to get on TV in the 80's and then once your foot was in the door, you did other things. It's all fake bullshit, telllievision.
@danw137410 ай бұрын
He was more of a comic writer than a stand up, hes even said it himself. The only reason Ben went into stand up comedy was because there was no other vehicle at that time to get himself 'out there'

Seriously! I remember him being so much funnier than this ? Yes, Dire Straits, now there is a socially aware Money for Nothing sell-out underachieving cabaret act if there was one. Why I was ever surprised that Elton would end up writing a musical for the Band Queen - who famously stuck two fingers up at black South Africans to play Sun City during the bloody apartheid years. He reminds me of the guy from Inbetweeners....but less funny.

What can you expect from a person who criticized the great Benny Hill?.. even Charles Chaplin himself admired the beloved Benny.
