Few movies get to the point where you re-watch them every few years, and enjoy them just as much each time, but this one does.

Ben-Hur 1959 is the ultra rare 11/10 film. Unlike Return of the King and Titanic, THIS picture deserved all 11 Oscars (thanks to winning all 11 in an era when awards actually mattered).

@@mariocisneros911 Here's the dirty little secret about Titanic 97. It's very well made on the technical sense. Cameron made it sure was a practical effects wonder with minimal CGI use (just like he did with T2). We even had beautiful interior sets and period accurate costumes. So all that was fine...but the story, writing and oh my god...the simplistic, yet badly written characters were awful. Whereas Ben-Hur had ALL the technical greatness AND the great story, writing and characters.

ITS STILL THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME!! A MASTERPIECE!!! The GRAND HIGHLIGHT of the film, is the healing redemption of Judah's heart through our blessed Lord Jesus Christ in His GREAT GIFT of salvation when we repent of our sins and give our lives to Him as our Lord and Savior.

This is one of those movies that is remembered for one scene, but I don't think that should be the case. Truly an epic cinematic achievement!

Have never seen this movie on the big screen, but hope to. Seen it enough times on the television (even a big screen tv but its not the same as the cinema). This was not the watershed year of movies that 1939 was when "Gone With the Wind" won, but it was one of those year when no matter what the other movies were that were nominated -- and this year "Anatomy of a Murder" and "Diary of Anne Frank" were strong contenders -- nothing was going to beat "Ben-Hur".

A very fine review! Epic, Magnificent, Timeless are all words perfectly applicable to this film. I wish more people would insist their friends and families watch great movies like this.
