After landing in Edinburgh, I drove straight to the North Face Car Park at the base of Ben Nevis and tackled the scramble route known as The CMD Route. The entire route took approximately 8 hours, including a 5 hour ascent to the highest point in the United Kingdom at 1,345m.
All vlogging throughout the video was shot on a GoPro Hero 11, while cinematic footage was a mix of the Sony a7iii and DJI Mavic 2. All editing took place on Final Cut Pro.
The intro song was "Champion" by the Mondays and all background music credit goes to Ström and his song titled "Fjallsippa".
Any questions? Feel free to leave them in the comments and I'll be sure to get back to you!

I plan doing this route from north carpark via CMD and the arete and returning by the half way lochan as you've done. You have to be extremely lucky to get a clear day on the big Ben😊

Went up the tourist route. Never again. Had backpack with supplies and spent 26hours in the shelter. It was worth the wait for the solitude and sunset. Thanks for the video good memories.

26 hours in the shelter? Yikes! Sometimes the more difficult routes are the more rewarding, sometimes not. Glad you still found some enjoyment during your adventure!

Thank you for the video! I am planing to climb Ben this summer. Really want to do the North face route, but worried that it could be to dangerous for a solo hiker.. On the website sounds scarry.

Glad you enjoyed it! I don’t know anything about the North Face climbing route. From experience tho, I would never suggest climbing solo and always have a buddy system.

Planning on doing the Ben in October this year. My GF wants to the pony path as she's scared of the CMD route. Hopefully you're video will show her that it's actually a great achievable route!
@chasedavidsson
@chasedavidsson 4 ай бұрын
Absolutely achievable! Prior to me undertaking this route, I was a bit worried but after living in Ireland for a year and realizing that their “very dangerous” routes were nothing more than a modest difficulty in many mountainous countries, I thought it would be good to show others the difficulties and/or challenges. You guys got this and would love to hear if you make it happen! 💪🏼 Have a great time!

Thanks! I haven’t had the chance to do the Crib Goch route of Snowdon personally but I reckon this route would be easier in comparison. I have a friend who recently did Crib Goch in poor weather conditions and he still really enjoyed it.

When did you do this hike? Wondering if that's summer snow? Handy seeing the route, especially the short cut back to the car park. I was planning on allowing a fair bit longer than 8hrs (almost double) based on the time it took us to do the Snowdon horseshoe and Tryfan horseshoe (Cwm Bochlwyd) routes but this looks more hiking and less scrambling. For England's highest peak (Scaffel Pike) I highly recommend parking up in Seathwaite (to the north) and taking the corridor route up (to the northwest of Scaffel Pike) which can be made into a loop with the option to summit Great End afterwards then follow the River Derwent back to the car park

Hey Matt! This was done just over a couple week ago now on May 24th, 2023. There wasn't much scrambling at all compared to what I thought I would encounter on this route. Stoked to hear you found this helpful and thanks a lot for the tip on a Scaffel Pike loop. Always enjoy a good loop rather than up and down the same way. 👊

@@chasedavidsson Wow, that's just 3 days before we did our Tryfan scramble and there was still snow up there! Really keen to get up there sometime especially now I think it will take less time than originally anticipated. Yup, that Scaffel Pike loop is mostly hiking apart from the corridor scramble which is a fun interlude. It's good to keep away from the main tourist routes to enjoy the tranquillity of the mountains. Happy Hiking buddy!!
