Ben Shapiro Comes Out In Favor Of Segregation

The Majority Report w/ Sam Seder

Жыл бұрын

Ben Shapiro, discussing the civil rights act, says that the legislation from the 60's was important in doing away with state governments that promoted segregation, but that it overreached by attempting to compel individuals to not engage in behavior or action that can be seen as protected by The Constitution. He uses banning Jewish people from country clubs and banning black people from restaurants as examples of things that, despite Shapiro not personally condoning them, the federal government should have no business in regulating because they're choices made by individuals and businesses.

Absolutely they always cry that they’re religious freedoms are being taken away from them. NO! You just don’t have the right to push your ideology and beliefs on everyone else. How do you completely ignore the infringement of the other persons rights? That’s the whole reason civil rights bill has never been overturned. The victim of segregation’s rights are more important than the racist pos. You cannot change how you were born, so to be prevented from freedom of travel/entrance based on your birth is an infringement of your rights. Being forced to serve someone you think is inferior is not an infringement of your rights because your views are not absolute nor something that you cannot change.

I had a friend in university who I first met in a psychology class. Our professor was a Freudian, which were a decreasing species then. (I'm older than dirt.) Sam talking about xenophobia and prejudice reminded me of that, because our professor would frequently repeat, "Everything is about sex, or violence. If it is not about violence, it is about sex. If it is not about sex, it's about violence." And my friend and I developed a corollary which we both said as one (under our breath, only those immediately in our vicinity might have heard), "If it is about neither of those, it is either about sexy violence or violent sex." Some people, you can predict.

The fact that Sam brought up black people staying in hotels is not an example pulled out of thin air, it is literally the precedent on which the "public accommodation" principle is built. Look up "Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. v. United States," it was a Supreme Court case in 1964 that rejected the exact argument that Shapiro is making today.

The other day some guy argued me down that I'm infringing on his freedom if I tell him to leave his religion out of my life after he decides that laws should be made based on his religious beliefs. He tried to claim that by me telling him to leave his religion out of my life, that's telling him what to do and I expect him to live by my beliefs 😮‍💨🤦🏾‍♀️ The amount of mental gymnastics they have to do to twist themselves into a hypocritical pretzel is amazing.

As a person who owned a business dealing with the public, the most misunderstood concepts is the right to refuse service, it is not the all powerful blanket statement people think it is. I always understood that but it always amazed me how it was interpreted by people. you can deny intoxicated/impaired and people disrupting customers or business but there is a steep drop off after that. The reason for this is that we have to have a common public square that sits above all personal beliefs. when someone wants to buy a widget they are looking for a combination of cost and distance... what people like shapiro are tossing around would require a search of cost, distance, requirements for service. store one has it at price but dosent serve X type of people. it is complete nonsense and all of this is just to keep interest in their platform so the extremist base will keep funneling money into them.. you get any of these guys in a closed room and really question them - its all a show

I don't understand why the government doesn't attack the argument by saying she has no religious basis to refuse service. The argument should be that Jesus would condemn any "Christians" who refuse service to any homosexual. In fact he would encourage his followers to serve these people. The religious freedom doesn't hold water when the religion in question is examined.

What Shapiro doesn't want to admit is that the minute you can discriminate against one group of people then you can discriminate against all groups. If you can discriminate against LGBT (or Black, or Asian, or Women) people then you can discriminate against Jewish people. He wants it both ways. He wants to discriminate based on his own bigotry but not suffer the harm of discrimination. You cannot have it both ways.

I strongly believe that social media should stop monetizing left and right political videos. The reason is simple: it creates a hostile environment that promotes divisiveness and polarization. Social media platforms are designed to foster connection and open dialogue. Unfortunately, when left and right political videos are monetized, it encourages users to become more extreme in their views and share more divisive content. This leads to an environment of hostility and mistrust, which can have a detrimental effect on our society. In addition, monetizing left and right political videos can lead to people taking advantage of the system. For example, some people will post inflammatory videos that are designed to generate clicks and views. This can lead to increased views and profits for the creator of the video but does nothing to further the conversation or promote understanding. Finally, when political videos are monetized, it can lead to a sense of entitlement among viewers. They feel entitled to have their views heard and for their opinions to be taken seriously. This can lead to an environment in which people are unwilling to compromise or listen to opposing views. In conclusion, social media should stop monetizing left and right political videos. This will help create a more civil and productive dialogue, promote understanding, and discourage people from taking advantage of the system.

so my Dad was a lawyer who dealt with this exact question and wrote books on it etc etc and the line is actually if you're a business *that has doors open to the public.* As long as your club was by invite only and there was no way for a person to just walk off the street and join, then you can invite who and whomever you want to. The moment you open up the membership of your club to open enrollment is when the Civil Rights act starts to apply there.
