"On the March 12 edition of The Daily Wire’s The Ben Shapiro Show, professional talker Ben Shapiro belly-flopped into the ongoing debate regarding Social Security benefits - a debate which has recently grown more intense after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump signaled his openness to cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits.
During his March 13 broadcast, Shapiro doubled down on his attacks on Social Security, Medicare, and the retirement age from the previous day, saying that Social Security is a “Ponzi scheme” which is to blame for an alleged collapse in the American family, and repeated that the very concept of retirement is bad."

Ben Shapiro has never ever worked 10 or 12 hour shift on his feet all day. He has never had to ask permission to relieve himself, been timed on a toilet break - or been refused one. He has always been able to eat and sit - or stand, or take 40 minutes in the fresh air, whenever he likes. He has probably never waited 20 minutes in the sleet for a bus at 8 am. If he has ever even used a bus. He has never come home with a rancid stink from work permeating his clothes and skin. He has no clue how tough working people's lives can be. Hmmm, Ben's Modern equivalent of “Work will set you free”? Now who else shared that ideology? 🤔

He has SUCH an awful way to say things or deliver a message But, i believe i got the "point" of what he was saying, despite his cold annoying speech, that a human needs and benefits from having a PURPOSE. An occupation. Something that you do everyday, that keeps you alive and SHARP. I hope and believe this is what he was trying to deliver? But no way should he support denying retirement from elderly, and elderly should be supported by any government respectfully. My grandpa worked hard until he was 90 something and it kept him alive.

@RandomGirl-ki7wk @1:22 Ben clearly stated, "They are all going bankrupt. Don't fix it, but dismantle it," OK. This is an all math problem. It's an easy fix. Because math is easy. This is where the pin pointed problem is. This is where a not-for-profit banking (socialism) comes into play. Because the math of socialism for everyone's retirement plan does add up. The ideal plan is to fix the problem, not dismantle our government. AKA socialism. Raising the retirement to 67 is unacceptable. And private-sector retirement doesn't work for everyone. Because the private-sector retirement is rewarding savers, thus punishing the borrowers, and this doesn't work for EVERYONE. Thus going in the opposite direction. Now. Who is sabotaging everyone's retirement plans? Who is going in the opposite direction because they don't understand math. Who doesn't understand how to run a government. Who doesn't understand where the "private-sector" can't handle the math of the type of product and services requiring the math of a not-for-profit banking system. AKA socialism. Who is chearleading, the government is bad, and to dismantle it. Because "they are going bankrupt" @1:22 Vs. Trying to come together and get the math right and fit our government.

I am 67 and retired. I retired at 64 and, at that time, it was not planned. I wanted to keep on working for at least another few years because I loved my job. But unfortunately changes were made at my job and it became unbearable for me. Perhaps all of that was done on purpose so that the company would have me leave and not deal with unemployment, which that itself hurt me. I felt like I should have handled that ordeal better, but it is all in the past now. I went out looking for work after leaving my job and I noticed a huge difference on how the people were towards me than the last time I went out looking. Their attitudes were not great and I experienced some "age discrimination". I know it's against the law, but they somehow find a way to get away with it. I'm on SS and, fortunately, invested at a good place with my money I got when I sold my condo. The SS and interest provides me enough to live on. If I live in a less expensive area, I could make out pretty well. I usually like Ben with his opinions, but this time I didn't agree with him.

No Ben, we are not "paying people not to work" when they turn 65. They have an option to retire and receive some of the money that they have socked away (through payroll deductions) for their retirement. It's totally disingenuous to say they "get paid not to work."
@dangli-sac4053
@dangli-sac4053 4 ай бұрын
Right but the problem is its really not their money, especially if your low income, its other peoples money. Thats his point. Its a redistributive system based on your income and relies on people who are working to pay for people who are retired.
@ctpaul1261
@ctpaul1261 4 ай бұрын
@@dangli-sac4053 Hmm... did you even watch the video?? People pay into the system for years. Then at retirement age they get money back. That's the deal. How is it not their money? It probably wouldn't be practical nor feasible to calculate to the exact penny how much each and every person pays into the system over the course of a lifetime and then give back only exactly what they put into it. But is that the system you would be in favor of? Anyway, some people may get a little more back and some won't ever come close to getting back all they put into it. And lots of people die before ever hitting retirement age. It's a system that has been working well for over 80 years. The elderly poverty rate dropped significantly when SS was implemented. Would you really want to go back to a time when 38% of the elderly lived in poverty? I don't. Lastly, it's not like SS gives people a luxurious lifestyle. Many people still struggle if their only income is from SS. I just recently went on SS myself after working hard for 42 years, and I have to work part time to supplement my income (so I am actually STILL paying into the system). And it's not because I squandered my money. I actually saved probably more than the average person. And although I'm healthy now, I may encounter lots of medical bills in the years to come. Let's keep the one thing that works and is very popular among Americans.
@dangli-sac4053
@dangli-sac4053 4 ай бұрын
@@ctpaul1261 Many thing you said were incorrect and it’s a little concerning. I get if your an avid tyt viewer that tends to be a common result. The money i pay into the system now goes to people like you, those that are already retired. It doesn’t go into an account with my name on it waiting until i retire. When i retire the people who are working and paying into the system will pay for my SS. See the problem? So if we don’t have enough people working to pay for the retirees what happens? We are going through this exact situation with baby boomers retiring. Secondly, SS is a redistributive system. So if your low income you put in very little money and get way more when you retire. If your middle to upper class, you get back way less than you pay into it. And if you die right after retirement you get nothing. So what your essentially doing is stealing money from people who have it so low income people can retire. Most people would be much better off keeping their own money and investing it they way they want for retirement. So no it’s isn’t a successful system and never has. When it was first created retirees weren’t smart enough to save for retirement so the program was created to give them one, those retirees never paid into the system and just received and we’ve been playing catch up ever since. You can literally put that money in anything else and make a better profit. So to answer your question yes I expect to at least get back exactly what i put but preferably more because i can invest in almost anything and make a profit over time. So the system is clearly a very unfair system that is running out of steam and wont work in the near future. I’m in my early 30s and by the time i retire theres a good chance my ss money is gone by then
@ctpaul1261
@ctpaul1261 4 ай бұрын
@@dangli-sac4053 LOL, no, SS is not "stealing money from people who have it so low income people can retire." That is a gross mischaracterization of the program. Do you also consider car insurance to be "stealing from accident-free people in order to pay for people who were in accidents"?? That's not an exact analogy, but the point is similar. We have programs in which large groups of people pay into with the full understanding that they, or someone else, will not be financially devastated at some point in the future. That's certainly NOT "stealing." And it seems that you are not aware of how SS works. Not everybody gets the same monthly benefit. People who are low income contribute less to the system than people who have higher incomes. And when those low income people retire their benefits are calculated based on their lifetime earnings. Low income people may receive as little as around $1500/month compared to higher earners who may receive anywhere from $3000 to $4000 per month when they retire. How well do you think someone could live on $1500 per month?? Even the high end provides only a modest income. So nobody is getting rich off of SS, that's for sure. And yes, dropping the elderly poverty rate from 38% to just 10-15% is the sign of a successful program. How is that not successful? And who was harmed over the past 80 years by SS?? Nobody ever was financially ruined in this country because we implemented a SS system. It's true that because of an aging population we should be putting more into the SS coffers. But that's very easy to solve. All we need to do is eliminate the cap on people who make over $160k per year. And then the program can continue as is almost indefinitely. The only thing standing in the way of eliminating the cap is Republicans. THEY are the problem - not the program itself. So if your money is gone by the time you retire it will be because of Republicans - not because of anything else. PS - I am gladly paying into the system now with the hope that you and people like you can enjoy your retirement some day. I will fight on your behalf to make sure the money will be there for you. It's the American way.
