It's no longer a university of intellectuals, they started promoting affirmative action and diversity, feminism and identity politics... It’s about refraining from the dirty hits and going for the fair ones, and letting your opponent do the same knowing it might hurt. It's ALWAYS been about kicking BIG FAMOUS dogs, and then getting away with it. After all, nobody can hit you or say anything. Look at the state of the current student bodies and recent (past 10-15 years) alumni as opposed to what it used to be pre 2010 and there’s your answer. Also Oxbridge has been desperately and frantically enrolling ‘diverse’ students for the past decade and a half so much so to the point where being Muslim or black - regardless of your grades and moral values - gets you an instant tick. The land of the Middle East is soaked in blood of the religious conflict taking place there for thousands of years. There may have been peaceful coexistence very occasionally… but it was certainly not the common state of affairs unfortunately. Oxford alumni here-- this was a bad showing from the Union. The lack of basic respect shown to Ben and the utter hostility of both the Union officers and the crowd makes them look extremely childish. Instead of having the nuanced discussion a topic like this deserves, we got this display of emotional fragility, grandstanding, and failed "gotcha" moments from a few students who clearly think too highly of themselves. It was more than obvious, however, that in this time of "emotional fragility" and myriad deaths in Gaza everyday, that the majority of the community did not want to hear what Ben Shapiro had to say. He's a known propagandist, just from his lack of address of how Israel funded Hamas, and his reliance on sarcasm and patronising behaviour to get him to seem assertive. His methods are obvious. When you know him as the man who wrote both Anti-Arab and Anti-Palestine tweets years back, and the man who stormed out of a BBC interview, not debate, it does not shine the best light on him. In times like this, you will see the worst of people, and you cannot blame them; I have no respect for a liar and a man who argues with young adults for a living. If he had some self-respect, he would allow his own ideas to be challenged by people on a similar level to him in terms of knowledge.

@@husseinsheekh6374 Its incredibly embarrassing that these "educated" children are completely unable to have any talk or debate without immediately coming from a place of emotion. Its beyond embarrassing that these places are supposed to be places of higher learning meaning these people are supposed to have educations/intelligence above the norm hence the "higher learning" these people should be able to think objectively based off facts and separate emotions yet every one comes up with an emotionally charged argument, speaking in condescending tones and clearly only up there to "win an argument" and not have a discussion. These children using serious real world issues to show their virtue is embarrassing and disgusting, they literally keep calm open debates from happening and actively keep us from progressing as a species. These are some of the worst kind of people , yes they are an embarrassment to the United States and to the entirety of the Human Race.

Not all of us, remember my generation just like any other generation is various. If you get out of your echo chamber of nitpicking and focusing on the negatives Look into more perspectives and you'll see that there are people of my generation that want the truth. These older generations love to categorize and generalize, like its "cool' to hate on the younger generations, when really its immature. Just because you see one young person or many that hold certain views, doesn't mean the entire generation holds those same ideologies, please use critical thinking. Remember, every individual has a different perspective... Don't oversimplify it by saying "this next generation" I obviously cannot speak for my generation, but I can ask you to open your mind some and realize that its far more nuanced than "this next generation hates the truth"... common sense would tell me that parts of your generation would also bury their head in the sand and refuse truth.. key phrase "parts of your generation" Don't overgeneralize, Its really goofy seeing older folks act no better than the youth.
