@@Toks39 Obviously something went on in Qatar. He was taken as a 4th choice right back and 6th choice CB after a long hard season. So are there always 3 injuries for the same position? He had to have said something to the manager like, "Am I just going to waste my time? And imagine what all those CBs thought about Southgate putting Maguire in game after game when he was utter garbage the whole tournament! And Maguire is in the squad again????? I'd be saying F that, no matter how much I wanted to play for England.

@@HarryKanee Because Southgate was not being candid when he said he had no idea why White didn't want to be considered. Lots of reporting White felt mistreated by Southgate's assistant coach Steve Holland. Southgate tried to put this all on White, which is unfair. Plus, Southgate has his favorites and continues to pick and play them even when they aren't performing.

@HarryKanee I think that because the majority of england fans aren't very smart about football and dislike the best manager in their lifetime, the whole narrative has to change. If it was any other manager or any other nation, they would hate Ben White for being a little baby and turning his back on his country. Clearly this isn't simply Ben White not wanting to represent his country, it's a deeper issue between Gareth Southgate (his team) and Ben White. England's probably got the greatest depth of talent (in every position on the pitch) in living memory, but with Gareth Southgate at the helm, we'll never win anything.

Where is the criticism of Southgate in all of this? Top managers (Bielsa, Arteta) have no problem with White and play him every week. This is the same Southgate that started Henderson and Maguire in a World Cup QF against France (that we lost) whilst Trent and Madders were unused substitutes.

Conclusion is, something major that he doesn’t like with Southgate and his team, for him to pull out of the World Cup squad and ask to be sent home. Thing is, neither Southgate nor White is telling us what it is or what happened over there. Before we know the full story let’s hold back with the criticism. Don’t just say what you would have done, that’s you not him, you can’t expect the whole world to do what you do, people are different and feel differently about different things.

Not one of them mentions the fall out between him and Steve Holland. Holland disrespected him withun the group and effectively said he was only there to make up the numbers. Are they stupid or blinkered. He cried for an hour when first picked for England so it is not a lack of love for his country. He had the respect of 3 top managers and his commitment to his club has never been questioned. None of this gets mentioned, just that they wouldn't have done it without any consideation of his position

Theres clearly been an issue between him and the coaching staff, so he's actually made a good decision as removing himself from the environment doesn't bring down any morale as he clearly doesn't agree with the staff decisions. White should have been picked over Maguire the last 3 years. Even now I'd have Stones and White as our CBs with Walker or TAA as RB.

If I were Ben, I will make the same decision. Southgate will choose his favourite Harry McGuire to play even if Harry isn’t playing regularly in MU. Ben White will be benched again till the end. Southgate has his favourite players, he will not play the others no matter how good form they were in. The others are there to make up the required numbers.

You guys have all been hypocritical about this situation. Let it go. Move. None of us know exactly what happened in Qatar. Managers are supposed to defend players, but Southgate hasn't done that. Why isn't he questioned?

I back Ben White. This is about the way Southgate's assistant Steve Holland spoke to him. So disrespectful and out of order. Who does he think he is? Holland needs to check himself.

Have ye seen the tweets when he first got called up he said it was a dream come true . We need to know what happend at the world cup. Id be suprised if it dosent come out soon . Another thing wouldnt Ben White be going as a CB aswell as a RB so the chances he would get game time are fairly good so i dont think game time is the reason he choose not to go .Then look at Arsenal his new contract got announced on the same day as the England squad announcement . All of Arsenals offical social media pages had the players talking about Ben White saying his a quiet person but a great team mate so they knew this backlash was coming thats why the PR team was in overdrive the last few days .

You wanna go travel around with a bunch of people you barely know when you're almost going to definately not play because the manager is somewhat toothless. After a long season I'd go on holiday too! Southgate is a snake, he's clearly a terrible man manager otherwise he never would've thrown White under the bus like this. There's clearly some issues between him and White. Why would you want to play under a manager like that, but also one who refuses to pick players based on form. Fair play to Ben White, seems like the bloke's got principles, he made his choice a while ago and stuck by it. I got to respect it.

I'm not liking this attitude of "he's not us" just because he doesn't enjoy football as much as us. It's his decision to go and if he doesnt want to go then that frees up a spot for someone else
