Struggling with the car is no excuse for keeping it pinned and blasting back onto track like that. They should’ve owned their mistake and apologised and not tried to justify it. For such a blatant lack of judgement “I’m sorry, but…” doesn’t cut it. We all need to do better.

If you want an easy way to get a good start, here is the technique I worked out that works quite well (using auto-clutch help), and is quite competitive against those using dual clutches (which I don't have), 1. When clock ticks to 0 seconds, hold brake at 100%. 2. Shift to 1st gear. 3. Floor it to 100% throttle (while still holding brake at 100%). 4. When the lights go green, release the brake as quickly as possible. 5. Hold that 100% throttle for just under 1 second. Then release it quickly to at least 40% throttle. Then feel for the traction limit of the tyres, and push harder when you feel confident. Btw, between step 3 and 4, you can partly release the brake (up to 50%), and the car will still hold stationary. I don't think it makes any real difference though for the start, as I've checked how many frames it takes to comes off both full brake, or part brake, and they seem identical at around 40ms. The best way to practice this start is to roll out of the pits, back up to the start line, set the Active Reset point, and maybe even set a custom sector of just the straight (do a quick click of the start custom sector immediately after you drop the brake, and it will time from like 10cm from your active reset point, then just stop before the end of the straight, and click the button to go to your custom reset point, and it will set the sector end based on where you stopped). Do a good 10-15 mins of practice using this technique and guaranteed, you will be starting better than 95% of the field.

So incredibly frustrating! Even in lights, I had great speed at Watkins Glen, qualified 3rd 1st lap when we got on to the long straight, someone drove into the back of me trying to overtake and punted me off, my crashed ruined 3 other peoples race too 😒

The biggest thing is Super Formula certainly in this opening season is surviving Lap 1. I can honestly say in every SF race I've done I've seen lap 1 carnage. Survive the opening lap, and it usually ends up being a rather enjoyable race and more often than not a SR and iR gain.

It’s just about trying to survive first lap most of the times, and this is in probably every series in iracing. 😝

These cars (and the new Hypercars) make me want to get iRacing. Yes, there are shunts but people need to get used to the cars. They're the second quickest open wheelers in the world at the moment, of course people will crash. But I love F2 cars and think F1 cars with their speed and 8 gears are a bit too much of a pain to drive over longer stints, while Super Formula slots in right inbetween. I drove ACC for a few years now and love it for GT3 but been always interested in iRacing for open wheelers and prototypes. By the way, great cut and commentary, shame about the first incident, I think the second one is on you, didn't lift at all at 2:58, can't go full throttle towards a spinning car, imagine doing that in real life...

How is it now? I've found great racing lately and wonder if this series is worth the time. Seems most in practice lobbies can't keep their cars on the track 😅

This is a good representation of the shortcomings in iracings license system. People farm SR to get an A licence then think they are good enough to race SF at an ir of 1k.

Super Formula is a nightmare. Im come from Formula A to Super, 8 weeks in and its not getting any better. some proper shit driving standards.

Naturally the inflow of new drivers attracted to a cool car will always be greater than the slower progression into a skilled, respectful mindset. This problem isn’t going away. It’s why I stick to slower open wheelers because that baseline of skilled drivers already exists. These cars, much less good racecraft, unfortunately require too much skill for people to appreciate.

Your comment on lap 3 about car not being up to temp, hear this a lot but without at any time looking at any telemetary which you did not appear to do, how do know if the car is not up to temp and that you are not just overdriving the corners. Two or three laps into a race If I miss an apex or understeer I always assume its my driving not a cold car or tyres.

Most people can’t handle 1600cc FF cars due to their open wheels. What makes you think they can handle powerful ones? Furthermore, you should have realized that a car traveling very quickly was off track and was goin* to end up someplace, including in front of you driving slower. But you can’t figure this out…

SF23 isn’t terrible, it’s good racing. Your headline is ridiculous and misleading. Almost as bad as your speculation and your amateur commentary. Please just be quiet and drive.
