Here's a simple recipe for a classic steak: Ingredients: - 1 or 2 high-quality steaks (such as ribeye, New York strip, or filet mignon) - Salt and freshly ground black pepper - Olive oil or clarified butter - Optional: garlic cloves, thyme sprigs, rosemary sprigs Instructions: 1. Take the steak out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30-60 minutes before cooking. This helps ensure even cooking. 2. Preheat your grill or skillet over high heat. You want it to be really hot to get a good sear on the steak. 3. Pat the steak dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season both sides generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. 4. If using, rub the steak with olive oil or clarified butter. You can also add minced garlic cloves, thyme sprigs, or rosemary sprigs for extra flavor. 5. Place the steak on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or adjust the cooking time according to your desired level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness if needed (medium-rare is around 130-135°F or 55-57°C). 6. Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier steak. 7. Slice the steak against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious homemade steak! Feel free to customize the recipe with your favorite seasonings or marinades!
