BENCH TOUR! How I organize my tools and work space. Workbench ideas. OPEN TO FIND RESOURCES!
Today I'll give a little tour around my workspace where I make jewellery and spend most of my time. I'm still between places so I try to have as little items as possible, being able to move at any given moment. That's why I'm not investing in more advanced bench and I have small set of tools. However, what I have is absolutely enough to create jewellery! :)
Grab your favourite hot beverage and enjoy watching my workspace tour!

Cool setup. I use a Dremel too. I get on with it just fine. One of these days i may splurge and get a Foredom SR. Not this year😂 I'm happy for you on your upgrade. I used a card table i folded and unfolded. I found a desk with a drawer. That was my upgrade. Last year i got a table that has tiles cements on top. Makes it fire proof. I also use it to sew and layout table. Look forward to more videos.

Ohh, I like the tiles! Great fire proof option. As for Dremel, I think it's great! Yeah, Foredom is an upgrade, but I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary :) Dremel really does the job done. The only thing I ALWAYS encourage people to invest in is a flexible cord - flesh shaft. This makes a whole difference! But other than that, many rotary tools are great and expensive ones aren't necessary

@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your sweetest comment! Yes, I absolutely believe that minimalism can be applied even with jewellery making. By starting with most basic tools and adding what's needed along the way. Of course it's great to have various tools and complete studio, it helps to experiment with different techniques and to learn. But it's not a MUST :) And certainly not required in the beginning :)

So simple and soooo beautiful. I already have many of your tools (in fact, I bought them following your videos and tips) BUT with regards to material I wish I had a quarter of the beautiful things you have. I started with copper just to practice and I'm saving to go to silver (yayyy! I hate copper). As always, a pleasure watching your videos Basia :)
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you SO much Faby! I'm so blessed to have such an amazing audience! You'll find working with silver much easier. Also, you don't have to buy large quantities to start, try maybe 1-1.5mm silver wire for rings and bangles and 0.40mm silver sheet for bezels and 0.50mm for cutting out shapes. 5cm x 5cm sheet size should be enough for first shapes and small bezels. Also, silver melts much easier and faster than copper, so keep that in mind when you start working with it! Good luck love! xx

Great video! Love your workspace! And totally agree you don’t need all the super fancy stuff to start, you can do so much with just the basic tools! I’m making jewelry for 10 years (4 years in school, 6 years as my fulltime business) and my studio has more tools now, but I started with very very little and just invested in the machines, saving money every time and only buying what I really need. Are you also in a group (on Facebook for example) were jewelry makers or goldsmiths sell second hand tools and machines? I found most of my things on a group like that we have here in Belgium. A lot of people study jewelrymaking and they buy EVERYTHING and than they don’t like making jewelry as much so they sell everything again.

Hi Karolien! So happy to see you here, thanks so much for watching my video! :)) Yes, I totally agree with you. It's amazing to be able to collect different tools and fill the studio so you can make jewellery freely and in different techniques. But as you said, it's a process and one needs to know for sure that this is what they want to do because more advanced tools are damn expensive! :) So it's best to start with smaller set, get proficient at basic techniques and then move on. I would LOVE to visit you in your studio and see all your tools and makes

Hi Elena! Thank you so much for sweet cooment! :) I ordered this third hand at Cooksongold in the UK. You'll find it pretty much everywhere under the name of third hand. Yes, I had to choose that one because I was going to move in the near future and didn't want to invest in the proper bench that I wouldn't be able to transport with me. I was on a budget too, and in the beginning decided to start with a simple, inexpensive table like that. But I'm definitely getting a proper jeweller's bench as soon as I can!! :))
