What make BM so attractive is their elegant folder designs and sweet, sweet action. All that is lost with a fixed blade, and you're left with a $200 "beater". That kind of money is usually put towards a knife with more mass (capability). In short, most folks looking at BM are not looking to kick the crap out of the knife.

The Jungle Bowie is surprisingly effective. It's kind of in a weird spot in regards to the blade to handle ratio, weight, etc. It's light enough to do light work, but big enough to be a great batoner and chopper. From a survival knife/kit standpoint it can do quite a lot and a good choice to pack/store in case you need it. I was very impressed. But...I ended up never using it. I think because when it comes right down to it, it can do a LOT, but I just preferred more specialized blades. The handle is fine for me me, but I have smaller hands. It's orange rubber handle, which makes sense from a survival standpoint, doesn't click with a lot of people. IDK.... The blade is very effective, it's just in a weird niche that's hard to quantify. Haven't used the others. I look at the Bushcrafter and the handle doesn't LOOK comfortable at all to me. Love my M390 Grip though....

I don't know but a very good friend of mine is totally in the knives. He was bringing out his knife collection from his safe and he had the Benchmade Bushcrafter 162. And I fell in love with it. He surprised me the other day I actually purchasing one. I haven't got it yet. But I can't wait to get my hands on it. I actually want to see if it'll fit on a tactical vest that I have.

TIm, I believe there are several explanations for the lack of popularity of Benchmade knives in the outdoor/bushcraft community. First, Benchmade has focused mainly on tactical folders. For those of us in the Tactical, LEO, or .gov community, they are a mainstay and have been for quite some time; providing good steel in a well-built package, supported by excellent customer service. Second, they are relatively new to the bushcraft/outdoor community, with only one design dedicated to bushcrafting, which, though well-made, has an incredibly polarizing handle design. As most of their designs are duty/fighting oriented, this isn't surprising, but it is no less shameful, as the 162/162-1 are great blades otherwise. Also of consideration is the recent boom of bushcraft/outdoor budding enthusiasts, that look and see an ESEE or one of the hundred or so TOPS designs which, while using inferior steel, are less expensive, and can be seen on 90% of the bushcraft/outdoor KZfaq channels. I bought a TOPS Brakimo because I did not want a short scandi grind, as offered by most manufacturers, and I am used to thin handles on my fighting knives. I have ground the spine to 90 degrees and am making thicker grips, to make it a good camp knife. I wanted the Benchmade 162, but I knew I didn't want those handles, and wasn't comfortable with modifying those grips with their hollow pins. Benchmade is a good company that makes quality knives. I believe that if they make another bushcraft knife, they will have learned that the handles need to be appropriate for hours of whittling and building, versus seconds of fighting. Just my .02. D

Knives, like firearms and Tactical gear are a complicated market: materials, specs, company philosophy, and even owner personality/philosphy come to bear in determining value. Value, of course, being defined by personal perception. Is a Rogers Precision 1911 worth $6000? To me? Absolutely. Are most Benchmade knives worth their price? To me? Absolutely. Are there better bushcraft knives available for a few dollars more? To me? Absolutely. My advice? Find the materials and specs you want in a knife, then take the time to find the man, woman, or company you want to buy it from. Money lost can be regained, time lost in buying cheap cannot. D

The bushcrafter is amazing. The strength of the blade and edge retention truly blows my mind. The heat treat makes that s30v super super steel. Most impressive I’ve ever experienced. Mines done a ton of work and the edge just stays razor and I’ve pushed it hard!

I got a Bushcrafter for $127, and I can not be more happy with this knife. I also have some ESEEs; but, for the humid conditions where I live this Buschcrafter really excels. The s30v blade offers impressive rust resistance, allows all kinds of abuse, and retains an edge quite well. I haven’t had to re-sharpen it yet. I don’t have any issues with the handle, no hotspots. However, I have to admit my ESEE LS and ESEE 6 handles are more comfortable. The only thing I don’t like of the Bushcrafter is the leather sheath. A good kydex sheath will make this knife one of the very best buscraft/survival knives. If you see this knife on sale, get one, you won’t regret it.

I really like the Arvensis except for the silly finger cut out in the blade. Ruins it for me, totally unnecessary, stop doing it for crying out loud. 154cm is ok but i would like to see it in 3v or 4v or similar.

I typically think 3V or 80CRV2 when it comes to survival fixed blades rather than 154cm or s30v.

I love Benchmade. However, they are not very popular because they are not budget friendly. There blades are quite expensive, but their warranty is the best in the business in my opinion. You just can't beat the life sharp and complete warranty these guys offer. I carry my Contego every day!!

I'd agree with several other folks here. Price on a mass produced knife, at least on the Bushcrafter. Nothing really wrong with it except $$$. I have a Benchmade folder and love it. Interestingly, I saw a review of that Bushcrafter knife versus a custom from Wayne Walker at WW Customs, knife versus knife. And if you can get a custom, handmade beauty from Wayne that's nicer than a mass produced knife for the same price, well...that's probably it.

The Bushcrafter does get some mentions among bushcrafters, but Benchmade's value-cost ratio is largely what keeps them from wider popularity. Using the knife you featured here as an example, the Jungle Clip Point, which is 1095, just under 10", and costs about $110. The Ontario SP5 is a very similar knife, 10", 1095, clip-point Bowie, comfortable molded synthetic handle, and is about $55 - literally half the price. The Benchmade sheath is better, but the Ontario one is actually quite good, so is it worth the extra $60, by the time you factor in taxes etc?

Just to be clear tho - not price point exactly but the perceived value at their price points. There are other knives that get a lot of attention at higher price points but the perceived value is aligned with that price point.

I personally have the 162 and love it. It is in one of my main systems. The heat treat on the steel is perfect and I think the price is on point with other high quality knives of this size. People must also look at Bark River prices, LT Wright prices, and many other quality knives. The pricing is going to on par with everyone else. I don’t love the sheath, but it is more than enough for what I am using it for. And in a survival situation it is more than adequate. First choice on the sheath no, but first choice on the knife. I got into knives at a young age, and Benchmade is my benchmark. A knife has to be as good as any of my Benchmades in order for me to purchase.

I have the Arvensis and 375 Adamas plus and ESSE 6, all are great knives. Not really that much difference in price between the 2 brands and are made in the USA. Benchmade is my favorite knife and great quality.

I think a lot of the issue comes from the Benchmade CSK II. That knife was supposed to be THE tactical survival knife but it was shown by Nutnfancy to snap in some hard conditions. I think the main issue is trust in the quality of the heat treat.

There is also the video of Cr0cket20 snapping a saddle mountian skinner tip off. This is why people have trust issues with benhcmade fixed blades. Neither of those guys were even trying to break the knife or putting it through anything it shouldn't have held up to.

For me it's the price, it does look to be a very nice knife with S30V and a decent sheath but here in Australia, the cheapest i can find it for is about $300 which is quite expensive for a mass production knife considering some customs can come close to that price. I would agree with your statement though Tim in regards to Benchmade being known for their folders, I think that plays a very big part of it too

I purchased a Contego fixed blade and I like it. I love the design and it both holds and cuts very well. It was a bit expensive but I feel I paid a bit extra for the unique design. I purchased the satin finished; I don’t care for coatings (or serrations).

I have the bushcrafter and absolutely love it. I've looked at buying some others, they have the contego and protagonist that I want. I think they are overlooked for some reason, people will pay two or three times the amount for a benchmade folder but act like the fixed blades are overpriced. I carry a folder every day but when I'm in the outdoors I always take a fixed blade....or two

I think Benchmade makes great fixed blade knives. I have their Arvensis and Nimravus knives. They are made very well and worth the price. I have a Bushcrafter on order. There are some other great knife makers, but Benchmade is in the top tier. I am glad to see more knives made in the USA.

I love Benchmade folders, but making fixed blades is so much easier and therefore more companies do it well at not a big price. Plus for me, my fixed blades get beat on alot more, I don't wanna buy a $300 knife and then beat it up. When you can buy a Becker, a Ka-Bar, a Condor, a Cold Steel or Esee for often less than $100, people don't need to look further.

In my opinion the design they made is not bushcraft enough, not jungle enough, not survival enough. Knives making is very competitive in the market now if they really want to get into fix blade market they need to make it real!

Personal I think think that Benchmade is 1st a folder knife company then a military/law enforcement company. I am a big fan of Benchmade but so many knife companies that have been doing outdoor knives for a longer period of time that most people just go to Esee, Tops, LT Wright or Bark River Knives for their outdoor needs. As for me I own several Benchamde Knives including a fixed blade but with limited money and my desire to own knives from more then one company, my outdoor knives will come from other companies. I believe the focus on folding knives for Benchmade is the case but it has to do with cost the folding knife industry is headed towards higher-end collectability and status symbol like clothes or cars fixed blade knives are still in the realm of tool and the high price a Benchmade demands I think most people feel like they're too expensive with so many other options on the market I obviously do not agree with that I own all of these knives in the video and several more Benchmade fixed blades

Their Mountain Skinner G10 handle, Nylon Sheath, and S30V stainless is an awesome "survival" / hunting cooking knife in all weather conditions. Now it's a little thin for batoning. And I like it so much that I don't even take it hunting because I'm concerned that might loose that $110 Benchmade in the woods so I wind up taking the $15 Mora....

I've seen benchmade fixed blade knives before, but I don't use a fixed blade every day. I have 1 Buck fixed blade that I bought years ago that does everything I need it to and don't see the need to buy another one. For some reason I have like 20 folders each one does basically the same thing, but some better than others... or at least that's what I say to justify buying another $100+ pocket knife. Those are some very nice knives though.

The Bushcraft is a great knife, but it suffers from two handicaps. The price point is a bit high compared to other production knives, and that sheath is another example of Benchmade not putting enough thought into one of the most important parts of a fixed blade system. At the very least, considering how much they want for it, they could have thrown in the dangler. I put mine into a sheath from LT Wright, and it became the knife it was meant to be.

You really have to find the Benchmades on sale before the pricing makes sense. In my opinion they are priced about 20% high with their MAP pricing. That said, I have the Arvensis which I bought on sale and it is a well made knife that would get more attention if it were $150.00 versus $180 and up. However, I have to give it to Benchmade in the sheath design and overall quality of the finish on the Arvensis. It is better made and better sheathed than an ESEE 6 out of the box. When I compared it to my ESEE 6 with the upgrades from the Knife Connection it was the better deal and the better knife. I am glad you made this video.

I have an HK Feint (made by Benchmade) that I love as a rather lightweight but big knife. I went back and forth between it and the bolo version of the orange handled one and just prefer stainless. Both were just under $100, putting them in the same range as a Buck 120 or Ka-bar, which are what I carried before it. All of them good tools for different jobs. I've since moved on to own more expensive knives, too. I like my TOPS and my Fox knives. Maybe one day I'll own an LT Wright or Bark River as well. But, I will also always carry my CRKTs and Gerbers and Cold Steels if that is the right tool for the job.

Do they come with a sheath? You showed some sheaths that are available, but do they come with the knife? How do they compare pricewise? Can you show prices on You Tube? I have Benchmade folders, and have never been disappointed. No reason why that wouldn't carry over to fixed blades.

I really like the style of Seibert knives. I own the Bushcrafter and love it. However I know that some folks don't like the handle.... I took a very close look at buying the Arvensis but reluctantly passed it by. I realized the aggressive end of the handle makes it not good for chopping. Otherwise I think they are great products.

I have the EOD bushcrafter its the tan handle, its the BOMB works really well I carry it alot on our 10 acre property when working, really like the arvensis might pick one up In the future!

I was hard-core against them due to their price, then I bought the Adamas. That's when I understood why the price is high. Combine that with all the customer service options, quality steels, great designs, they are great. They aren't flawless, but they are high quality. I own several now. The D2 steel with the Adams is a home run, the rest I have are S30v, S90v, CPM M4, and I like them all. The only flaw I've found in the 162 is how the spine chips using fire steel. Outside of that, its great. The 3300's I've had all gum up and require sending it off. Great brand though.

You have to loctite the screws (blue) on the folders. I have 5. My first one I carried I had in my pocket and the screw holding the BLADE just fell out. I luckily found it fast and loctited it. After that, I started checking the screws on my benchmades and had to locktite all of them. I quit buying them after that. I like the fixed blades. I honestly didn’t even know they had them! Maybe its advertising?

Tim at everyday Tactical the reason most people don't know about the fixed blades is because you don't hardly see him in Walmart or Academy sporting goods or Dick's Sporting Goods either so you find those basically and Cutlery shops and stuff like that but Benchmade is an extremely good quality folding knife and I'm sure that they're fixed blades extremely good as well but most of them I don't think or budget-friendly I know me being on Social Security they're out of my budget range but I've got a couple friends that have the the latter to that you showed and they're exceptionally well crafted and I'm very sure that they'll do the jobs at their intended for what always be with you and may you always have a blessed day

My MeatCrafter is light and well made. I love it. Unfortunately, I also have a fixed blade Contego. It looks great but the handle is horrific. I really want to use the Contego but it is just very uncomfortable in my hand. Because of the MeatCrafter, I want to try more Benchmade fixed blades. You are correct, they don’t seem to get much representation.

I considered getting one at some point but they are wayyyyyyyy to expensive! I decided to buy other knives for almost half the price and never looked back, the price is what honestly scared me off.

I own 2 Benchmade fixed blades. A Nim Cub and a fixed Griptilian. Love them both. I had to make my own scales for the Griptilian since the blade outlasted them. The only thing I hated about these and other fixed blade knives in general is the sheath. The sheath quality is always been hit or miss with me. The fixed Grip sheath sucked and wouldn't even hold onto the knife and the Nim Cub sheath was purpose built and useless really. I have since started molding my own kydex to make up for it. Another thing to keep in mind is customer service too. It seems that the top notch customer service that BM offers is only really good if the knife is still in production. Seeing as they discontinue knives like crazy that might keep people away.

The bushcrafter from benchmade is a great blade I have one and it's held up good I don't know why more people dont get benchmade fixed blades but I can speculate that there's not enough of a selection for fixed blades the s30v on the sibert model bushcrafter is great steel too .if I could tell benchmade to make more fixed blade woods knives I would it would be great to see a five inch kephart fixed blade in s30v or cpm 3v possibly a 3/16 outdoor fixed blade model too

Well I guess we won't have to worry about blade centering on benchmade knives for once with these, lol. No idea what these cost, but safe to assume with BM they're pretty expensive. That would be my guess. Especially with more reasonable offerings available with Esee and Becker.

Like Spyderco, their knives are excellent. However, you'll have to cough up a premium if you want to buy one.

I think a majority of people are inclined to be more choosy about fixed blades when it comes to cost/value. And to me, personally, something seems off about their handles which are so important to a hard use knife. I haven't used one so I don't know what they are actually like. I don't like a swedge on a woods knife.

I have been using the mountain back skinner for the last year and I highly recommend it for bushcraft and hunting.

I would blame the lack of awareness on poor marketing. Very few KZfaqrs, survivalists, knives makers. Use or market the knives.

Sure have used the jungle Bowie!! Its light but chops well and works very well as a light machete!! The handle is a bit too short but very comfortable!! I recomend it for sure!!

I picked up a bushcrafter a few years ago on ebay for $125. Love that knife, love that handle. Just wish it was a tad beefier (the handle). For the usual selling price ofv$175ish, Iwouldn't have bought it, too many other options out there.

Arvensis is the one I’ve been looking to get just waiting on a deal to pop up I just bought a Phaeton OTF it’s my favorite out of all my knives and when I’m feeling a little classy I pull out the Proper lol Tell me what your guys EDC is curious!

I jave a couple of discontinued rants in 440 c .dont use em cos they havent been in production in so long but i was considering buyin the jungle clip point and the adamas fixed as a necker

ESEE blades are cheaper, have a better design (IMO), and have the reviews to back up their durability and dependability. I love my Benchmade folders, but I'll stick with brands like ESEE and Tops for my fixed blades.

i still have a few benchmade butterfly knives from back when i was getting them for $25. i wouldnt touch one today for the price. great knives for sure, but i can get one just as functional for a fraction of the price.

I've been wanting the Bushcrafter for years now but awesome topic for discussion, just wish I had one to have an educated opinion. Love that Jungle Knife! I Wonder what the difference between the bolo and the clip point is in application and use...

The only knife out of the three I considered was the bushcrafter. I don't like there leather sheath. I don't like the poop/peanut butter colored handles on the kydex version and for the price point lots of other options. I still like the knife. But if I have to buy a new sheath I will just look elsewhere. I would buy an Esee 6 or Junglas over the jungle knife. They have the same steel better sheaths. I just think there are lots of great options for there price point. Still good stuff.

When I think of Benchmade, I think of high quality, and high prices. The knife market is so competitive with so many great knives that cost less than Benchmade, and are very functional. I kind of 'right them off" because of their high prices before I even look closely at them. The 162 Bushcrafter is a great knife, but it is too expensive for me.

I agree with you, maybe because they focused more on marketing for folding ones!! Actually i prefer folding knives. Fixed blade is only for camping u can not carry it on a regular basis, Thx for sharing

There's a bunch of companies that are known for their fixed blades(Fallkniven, Tops, Esee, Ontario, etc) and are established in that market. If they are making a fairly good product, it's hard to get people who have been sticking with those brands to try something else out. Just as how Benchmade and Spyderco are established as two of the top companies for folders, if their product is good and people have been loyal to that brand for years then why would they try brands like WE, Kizer, Hogue, etc? Good companies that make folders arguably as well as Benchmade/spyderco but whose names are not as well known or are still trying to gain traction in the knife community.

People will take the cost in consideration And get an very day carry knife . The survival knife is a specific knife made for mostly outdoors . Most people will get an edc knife for every.day carry . Period .

I have the Bushcrafter, Arvensis and the Protagonist fix blades and so far I love them. the quality is great, however, I wish they would step it up with their sheaths. The Leather sheaths are the worst from Benchmade.

Benchmade knives are Overpriced, plain and simple. Other than that, they are exceptional and so is the company. For every Benchmade knife I have ALWAYS found a less expensive alternative offering the same advantages, and sometimes even more.

Benchmade, for the most part is too expensive. They're so many other options for fixed blade knives that are much cheaper and just as effective. If Benchmade lowered their prices a little, they would come up in conversation a lot more. I consider them to be a Boutique Knife for the most part.

I'm a knife maker for years I've seen production knives go out the roof in price, and for some reason the bushcrafter is the most uncomfortable knife they have but it's the highest selling one too. I know steel plays a huge role for knives but come on benchmade some of my custom knives doesn't cost that much. Just my 2 cents

The reason is that the market for this outdoor survival knives is quite saturated with cheaper and good knives(Ontario, kabar, fallkniven maybe, etc), benchmade knives are good but they are like you said, getting more market share in the tactical folders market. Similar to spyderco.

Say Heah Tim, I think Benchmade is a very known and great knife company. Infact I got the very First Production Run #299 of 500 Bushcrafter #162, and then the B M Arvensis after watching your video which I teamed up Piggyback with my Bokor Coye Ridgeback a lovely piece of kit. It's lite and I scout carry them with the Coye Rigback slightly cocked forward. Yeah, I love both of mine. The only thing that I put on the B M Bushcrafter #162 was the Leather Frog to make it a complete Dangler Carry. Once I did that the sheath is excellent.,,.p

Say Heah Tim, Yeah, both my B M Bushcrafter#162 and the Arvensis are two of my Fav's in wet and snowy weather. The C M 154 holds a pretty good edge retention, I find it as good as some of my O1's except it's more weather friendly. Besides, I like a larger knife in colder weather, since I don't carve as much on those kind of trips. Actually it's a pretty good wood working knife. But I also attached a smaller knife to the sheath. I went with my Bokor Coye Ridgeback for a nice matching Combo that's actually pretty lite, Dilly, Dilly.,,.p
