Benchmade Griptilian Repaired, Axis Lock Tips and Tricks
If you feel like skipping ahead and just want to see the before and after, check the first couple seconds then skip to about the last 2 mins. Finished knife is shown at the end, sharpened, tip fixed and fully tuned and ready for pocket duty!

Great vid! Watching you bring the grip back to life was like those videos where someone finds a poor stray dog and takes them home for food and a warm bed. They always end up being the best dogs.

IT'S ALIVE! This is by far the most compelling piece of entertainment I've had the pleasure of watching in a very long time (since your last video lol). I'm glad you're back, tragedy hitting so close to home has a way of putting things into perspective. Love the one's your with. I can't believe I watched the whole thing in one sitting, I have stuff to do, dang you Mr. Johnson! LOL, keep em coming brother and keep em SHARP!

Strong work brother! You took a wreck and turned it into a great knife with many years of use left in it now! I am glad to see old/worn/damaged things redone and made like new and sometimes even better than new. That is a super strong tip on this knife now and it looks great. Benchmade should see this video. They would want to hire you. Stay safe out there.

If you sent it to benchmade they would have fixed it for free...they did for me, and even installed a new pocket clip...nothing wrong with taking advantage of a warranty...thats what your paying for !

I think he found it on the side of the road tho, n it was all broken from being ran over by cars. So I don’t think he originally purchased it to get the Benchmade warranty. Otherwise yeah I’d send it in too

First off, I'm sorry about your supervisor and friend! That sucks, especially since he was so young. It puts life in perspective and helps you value what you have. Second, wow! Holy crap I can't believe how the knife turned out! I never would have thought it would this good, but I knew after feeling it's action after I found it that it could work again, and it's a real testament to how well Benchmade constructs their stuff and how durable it is and how well you are at doing this stuff with the little tricks you have with bananaing the handles to get it centered and the tip work you did was epic! That came out really nice!

I just subbed because of this vid. I tried to get my griptill centered and i kept thinking it was the scales being warped. I ended up putting back together and bending the scales on the clip side to walk the blade over and it worked!!!. Thank you!!!! 👑👑 🤠🐶 🙏🙏

The knife is missing the rear spacer (shouldered pin) between the liners. It's what keeps the liners relatively parallel. Good salvage of a "road kill" though!

Really love to repurpose broken or damaged things, and I do like to watch this raw footage during my pass time. I recently took apart a rotting WWII ammo crate and salvaged two boards of cedar (harder to rot) and made it into a coffee table/entrance table. It looks awesome and rustic from the water stains.

Well you got me hooked. I stayed for the full ride. I live in Vancouver, WA and Benchmade is practically in my backyard just across the river south of Portland, OR. Back in February of 2004 while in Mosul, Iraq with the US Army as a combat medic I received a Benchmade 154CM as a thank you from my brigade CO. I carried this knife for mant years until I got out of the army. Nowadays it sits on a shelf next to my military coins since it is spring-operated. It's not legal to carry in WA or OR, even with a CWP. I did send the knife in to Benchmade from Fort Lewis, WA in 2008 to get sharpened. When they sent it back I'm pretty sure they had put a new blade on it. Anyway, I am otherwise a complete novice to knives. Good video, I like how you had very little dead air the entire way. Only a couple times were you doing some function outside of the frame. As a novice I would have liked to have been explained why you use lighter fluid as a cleaner and a little more detail on that paste-like lubricant. Oh, and that board you used to polish the washers too. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. P.s. - I know it's been a couple years since you posted this video. I am sorry to hear about you supervisor and close friend passing at such a young age. Best wishes, Rich

This was a fun video to watch. You absolutely did the right thing by dropping the spine down to create the tip versus grind the edge up, for the reasons you stated. That swage was the bonus ending, it kinda sorta reminds me of the swage on the Freemont Jack............sorta. Good job Randy!

Learned a lot from your video! I didn't realize how much the screws for the case affect the action. I've been trying to figure out how to stop the up/down play of the liner when the blade is deployed. Tightening the center case screw helped but when I followed that with tightening the side screws, the play came back. Do all the case screws need to have the same torque applied to stop the blade/liner play?
