If you can’t afford a benchmade infidel there is great options for a bit less. Microtech Ultratechs are great for about $300 half the price of the infidel. The Kershaw live wire is also excellent and still made in the USA for closer to $200. Cobra tech has some great options for closer to $100. And if you are really on a budget the original lightning OTF is one of the absolute best that will stay with you and put up with whatever you want it to.

You’re absolutely right. The live wire is one of the best OTFs of any price range and ultratechs are/were the gold standard but now there are many more options for the money. I think lightning OTFs are underrated as well, after all if you don’t spend much on your knife you’re more likely to use it and enjoy it. I’ve seen those things last for years and years. I think I’ll get one to review. Thanks for commenting!

I bought a Lightning when they came out and I still have it. It looks pretty rough but it works.

Ha depending on the Model of Ultratech you get. Mine was over $500 If you absolutely cannot spend too much brand new 2024 Mini Hera for 270

Suggestion anyone buy a counterfeit is wrong. If they want a n OTF knife and do not want to spend the money on a bench made, you should suggest they purchase a lower cost brand versus a counterfeit.

I bought 2 infidels for 200$ on some site. Now it came in correct packaging and all came with warranty card nothing sketchy except that the case for them was cheapish and had no logo. But other than that everything seems legit but me and my friend I bought one for are skeptical but it keeps showing signs of being real also. But we just aren't sure.

I've got a 2 old Benchmade's. An Infidel and a Ambassador. The Ambassador is out the side and still fires pretty hard. All the finish is worn off. The Infidel is busted. If you hold it together it will fire but it's in bad shape. I think it was run over by a pickup. Both are very heavy. I contacted Benchmade about having them repaired and refinished. They said it would be at least a year because they are that backed up. I guess, I'll hold on to them and hopefully I can find someone to repair them.

The infidel is prettt light since it’s aluminum. If it’s heavy it might be a fake and it’s usually a pot metal kind of handle

I’m not familiar with the Ambassador, I’d love to look at them if you could post pics! Good luck fixing them. If nothing else you can sell the parts for the infidel individually, people would be interested!

Absolutely brother. I’ll try to make a video soon about how it operates, that’s a great idea! I wish BM would utilize the Infidel’s mechanism more. It really is one of the best.

I just got one from AliExpress. I can't find a locking mechanism on it. Does yours have one?

If you tell me the seller I can look into it further but generally speaking, yes. Sites like AliExpress may remove the switch in photos for legal reasons but I doubt it lacks a locking mechanism. I’d imagine your’s has a locking mechanism similar to a Microtech or Guardian Tactical rather than a genuine Infidel. I have a video tearing down a Microtech if you’d like to see the internals and others have made videos on the Infidel’s internals. Hope this info helps.

I have a video comparing them! Check my recents. There are different types of clones, the cheaper ones I’d steer clear of. The higher tier fakes are closer to a genuine Microtech in quality and will help you decide if you want a genuine one. What model are you looking for?

No, just poor engineering or machining of the parts and handles that caused blade play. Big shame and embarrassment on Benchmade, supposedly a high-end knife company. They've been riding on reputation while dropping on quality for years and people still eat them up.

Absolutely. When I first got it I was disappointed. Yesterday I found out how to modify mine and now it has almost no blade play which I’m pretty surprised about. I do wish BM would update it though - particularly a thicker blade. Even without the ridiculous blade play like before it still feels so flimsy. Instead of listening to people they dump resources into making $400 plast…I mean polymer knives.
