My wife got me this knife for Christmas, and it's absolutely beautiful. I am however extremely tentative to even use it given the cost. She however is adamant that it's made to be used, like expensive jewellery you don't leave it in a box you wear it. I am looking forward to showing it off to my local knife shop pals. This one was an unlimited limited. They made as many as ppl ordered for that year only. Some gold class knives they do limit to lower numbers & some they do unlimited limited one year runs.

I kinda like the pop of gold. As far as price.. value is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

I was looking at these…. It’s very nice looking! I dig it a lot! I always wanted a gold class in my collection… I owned 2 in the past I sold.. I don’t think this will be the one but it’s good looking… usually runs on gold class goes for the year that’s it’s produced.. it’ll probably discontinue early next year

There was a gold class mini crooked river, or crooked river, or a bugout (sorry I can’t remember) and it was gold, a few years ago. That one was so stunning that I knew I works regret not getting it for myself and just having it , despite the financial aspect of it all. I kept comparing this other things I could get at the time and I knew that I still wanted that configuration and I would have been really happy with it. I’m going to jump on the next one that I like that much and I’ll have fun chasing the one I can’t remember, and I’m sure I’ll see it pop up in the wild somewhere and have an opportunity to try one. I like these. I don’t mind the price, even if I can get “better” stuff for the price. I like that they do these, and especially for who they are. They do these for us, and probably don’t profit a lot off of these as their main sellers are in the $120-$200 price range and they sell pretty few of these comparatively. I’m sure they do this, to showcase their abilities, and for the knife guy. Not for everyone, and I dig that, but I hope no one would judge me for liking it lol. Guilty there. The custom shop might be a stop I have to make this year as well. Super fun to build stuff there on their site.

Last year I was considering purchasing a gold class Benchmade Crooked River. Love the look, but the price of $1500 was too hard to swallow. I ended up getting a Shirogorov Quantum 2 for $1200 and grabbed another PM2 and still came in under the Crooked River. Good topic to cover. The gold class are nice, but yikes on the price. It's like McDonald's making a 'gold class' Filet Mignion.

$700 is steep as a waterfall…. But damn, Dirk. I really do want one. Those light blue thumb studs and bolster are so good looking.

If I remember correctly, these gold class knives are limited, but only to the amount they can sell that year. So, you won’t know how many till they close production for the year

Totally agree. If you love the knife, buy it. For me, at that price, there are far more compelling knives. I could even buy 4-5 solid knives with similar quality, without the looks.

I'm not crazy about any Benchmade knives. This on is pretty & I'd probably go with a 940 if I had to have this brand, but they're always too expensive to me for what they are. I think it looks amazing and Benchmade has been good . I remember my dad ordered a blade for his Osborn and they charged only $25 for regular blade which I thought was very cool .

its limited out of unlimited. They will continue to make them for 12 months after release date. When the final one is made, thats the total production run. There are nearly 2000 of them so far. I have 1642.

reviewers keep saying benchmade's quality control has gotten way better over the past few years , it could not have gotten worse ! I got a crooked river large and small from benchmade ,the large was a large turd in a box !!! the blade was unfinished all the edges were sharp enough to cut you anywhere you grabbed it locked open the first opening had to knock the lock bar back with a hammer ( no I did not send it back ,if my rid eye is not med-well I don't go to that place again ,) I refinished it ( I like working on knives) got it pretty good and gave it to a friend after I replaced the springs that broke shortly after in fact all of my benchmde springs broke cooked river large ,crooked river small ,940 green anther one I can't remember which ( all replaced with Ganzo springs that never break )!

I prefer the original 940, which I just sent to my nephew to enjoy. I think I’ll try the mini next, but not this one.

I think maybe its limited unlimited. As in they make them all year as long as they sell so no set number. But i could be wrong

Yeah, Benchmade called it a unlimited limited run, so it’s available for the year of 2022. (They will make as many as required to fulfil orders. Gold class status = we can put a higher profit margin? I agree it is overpriced but I do have a couple of older gold classes. 😄😄

I always like and appreciate the benchmade gold class knives but they aren’t for me. I’d rather spend $700 elsewhere. Also I believe it’s not limited to a certain number bc I believe BM makes each gold class knife for a whole year not necessarily a specified number

I am a BM fan, but I've never been interested in their Gold class. The S90V Bugout is my favorite knife (and I've got Shiros, etc).

Your fat carbon handles have the highest amount of aqua that I've seen compared to others. My handles have more of the dark teal. The fat carbon color variation (and damasteel pattern variation) make the knife quite unique.

They don't make a certain number. They make them for this year only. After that they are gone forever

I only collect clones of stupid high for no reason but greed priced knives !!! just got the 945-221 gold class $48.24 ! getting another one so I can use abuse one ! I have the blue class to think it was $30.00 and the mini freak going to get the 535 and 533 carbon fiber ( the regular 535 from benchmade is just a plain rip off ) !

If I were to spend that much $$$ on a pocket knife It would definitely be the Sumo from Jake Hoback. And thin 500rds of 9mm CCI ball ammo. Not that I don't like that but the blade shape just isn't my cup of tee. Tanto blade,,, he'll ya I'd be all over it but the reverse tanto,, to me looks like somebody attempted to hand forge for the first time and gave up.

the worst thing about bm gold class is not the fact that they are batshit overpriced, it's the fact that they go through the same qc control as the regular bm's. i've seen $800 gold class knives with warped blades, bad grinds and so on, crazy!

You can get Chinese made knives with similar materials for the same price. You can get Chinese made knives with lesser materials for near that price. You can get American made with not near the materials for the same price. If I'm honest its a fair price. Will I buy one, no. Not because of the price, because I don't like it. I don't carry knives with all the fancy materials.

For me it’s a pass but I think hardcore Benchmade fans might really enjoy it and could be a gateway into the insanity where our collecting is at lol. Tempting though they did a great job on this and the WSG discount is amazing!
