p.s. Yes, Davinci Resolve CAN edit 360 videos (although 5.7K resolution requires the paid Studio version). You can however, reframe your 360 videos natively in Davinci with the free version exporting up to 4K resolution. I've got a tutorial inside my 360 Video 101 course that will show you how to do that 👊🏻 go.benclaremont.com/360video101_129

Hi, I googled DaVinci and it's ability to import and many people have the same issue - that many codecs are missing. I know I can reformat my clips but from my latest motorcycle trip I have more than 1000 of them and doubling the storage space is not something I want to do. I'm on Linux and programs such as Olive, Shotcut, kdenlive have no problems importing the clips. Resolve seems nice and I thought I'd give it a go, but for now I'll stick with Olive.

Most people live to around 85 and people don't want to waste their entire life trying to figure out some useless program for editing when all they want to do is edit so Davinci is hopeless from the very sttart.

Some additional thoughts, when I followed your steps with a new install of DR 18.6 on my Windows 10 machine, some of the panels you showed were not visible by default and I really struggled to find how to display them. These questions are SO basic that no-one bothers to answer them anywhere. For example, the "Control Room" panel was extremely hard to find. I eventually found it: Workspace > Show Panel in Workspace > Meters Similarly, I couldn't find the Audio options for trying dialogue levelling, until I figured out I needed the Inspector selected on the top right. So a basics video is incredibly helpful, until there's something different between your interface and what we see, and then we're completely screwed. Something to consider for next time. Thanks again.

If an instructor addressed every little struggle that a beginner might have, the tutorial would end up being 14 hours long, which defeats the purpose of speed learning in 12 minutes. The fact that you struggled is a good thing. You have now built up way more muscle memory than the person who is just handheld through the entire exhaustive process. You will learn 10X faster by doing (fishing through all the menus and clicking buttons) than just listening (and forgetting). Learning a new software for the first time is always a difficult challenge.

I agree. I just got v18 and this vid says 2024 in the title, but my screen is very different from his! Plus a beginner's tut could be a bit slower, please! I've seen other Resolve vids and they all look very different. I don't know if I want to learn this app if it changes shape so often.

After this presentation I realized how much easier and user friendly Davinci is and goodbye to Adobe products that costs a fortune! They do a wonderful job with their products but for users like me using the software not regularly, it is too expensive. They need to change their mind and have a once off payment option. I am happy to do the paid version of DaVinci and love the Blackmagic camera systems. Thank you Ben for this video.

If every tutorial was as short and concise as this, my career would have started 5 years sooner. I don't know what it is about most instructors, but they have a tendency of going off track too much and babbling on in way too much detail. By the time you have finished 14 hours of instruction, you have forgotten over 50% of what you learned. I have found that if you discover all the major functions, the smaller features become intuitive on their own. Not every tutorial needs to be so exhaustive that they make a beginner's head explode. Thank goodness for people like you who know how to get to the point. Doing is a much faster way of learning than just listening.

Thank u. I avoided this program -despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews- for one reason only. So many people were saying there's a steep learning curve and that it's not beginner friendly. While that may be true, it's far less intimidating than I thought. It looks ultra helpful and cool. Perhaps even better organized than what I was using before, and with far more tools. I'm actually glad I encountered an unfixable error with the old one and was forced to consider this far superior option. And as someone who has no income currently, I really could not have asked for anything better.

DaVinci is a total waste of my precious time and doesn't do what I want which is edit 4K video the fastest and easiest. I use a 4K convertor to change the sound to mp3 and change HDR video to non HDR video while keeping everything 4K. So I use TMPGEnc MPEG Smart Renderer 6 and VideoReDoTVSuite6. This took years of trial and error to come up with the fastest 2 programs which only work with a 4K convertor.
