The longest slot canyon in the country, Buckskin Gulch is a world of ethereal colors, textures and sounds -- and owes its existence to the periodic floods that scour its walls.
Usually attempted in the spring and summer, we choose the winter to have it for ourselves. But after a series of recent snow storms, the landscape was primed for some very high (and bone-chillingly cold) water.

**Editors note (3/17/23): approximately five weeks after our trip, Buckskin Gulch registered its first flash-flood related deaths. Sadly, two individuals of a three-person group perished in mid-March. They were experienced hikers, and their tragedy highlights the dangers of Buckskin Gulch -- even when it's outside of peak monsoon season.**
Shuttle information: Seeking Treasure Adventures. The owner is experienced and wise. He knows Buckskin Gulch inside and out. He will refuse service to you if he feels that you are inexperienced, unprepared, or if the conditions warrant it. My advice: do your research on this place, then use him to shuttle (or guide) you, and when he speaks, listen!
