Iceland's Benedikt Magnusson went head-to-head with a young Hafthor Julius Bjornsson and smashed the DEADLIFT WORLD RECORD.
He took it to 445kg at Giants LIVE Melbourne 2014.
Note - it was still below his Raw Powerlifting record of 460kg - this was the Strongman Record. He would go ahead of both in one great lift of 461kg later that year at the World Deadlift Champs in Leeds.

Benni is f*ing amazing! I feel even today he is in the top 5 best deadlifters to ever walk the planet And he is still the absolute best at doing it totally raw But, to me, the best thing about watching Benni lift isn’t how great he is at it, it’s the intensity he puts into the lift and the build up ritual that he does leading into the lift He gets soooo into it! And then once he completes most lifts he has that well earned grin, like it was nothing Benni, you f*ing rock! 💪

Why Bennie's raw's the best: 1/ Suits add considerable force. 2/Straps minimize grip fatigue, & enable grip on 2nd finger-joint, shortening ROM by c2". 3/Hitching, stop-starting, back & forth bar travel are allowed in strongman. Powerlifters must lift in one continuous motion.

i'll give Eddie all the props in the world for literally almost killing himself to get 500 pulled, (even tho it's w/a suit & straps). No one else has come that close to a true 100% effort. But is that what really makes you the strongest? Look at Bennie's RAW 460. He's so full of energy afterwards, stomping, yelling, & punching the air. This lift beat the previous EIGHT SUITED&STRAPPED records, and is STILL the RAW record, almost TWELVE years later. If you're stronger, lift more, RAW.

@@TF-mn1wo sorry dude this isn't about height and Thor being stronger case he has to lift a higher distance. This is competition you can't calculate how much more energy it actually takes to lift the bar an extra 2 few inches because leverage is different on every man's build. You could call the whole thing shame if you want to be like Thor because he's competing in a sport where the rules don't favor his build atm. Sports are all biased to a rule set get over it. And for a finishing note my short friend can lift heavier loads over a distance than me. I blame it on him being shorter but in the real world he gets work done better than me because he's shorter hence stronger

Fair enough - we didn’t graphic video itself but there is clear info on contest date in the more info. The reason we do it this way is the same reason we don’t write ‘this is prerecorded’ when airing at Cmas. The idea being - we are offering a chance to watch as much as possible ‘as live’ and then in the details you can read all the details. What we find is that too many words in the title is off putting, hence we write those details below Hope that makes sense

This was in 2014, and Hafthor won the competition. He surely would’ve failed 445kg though so he didn’t attempt it. The key is being consistent across the events.

A new upload that states world record should be specifying that it's an older record w/ date of that world record.
