So when we select az 1 or 2 or 3 for vm, does that means out of three az my vm will be deployed into one of it?

So if you have VM's that are zone redundant and you power it on, are you paying for 3 times the price of the VM or does it not power on all three instances, it simply updates the VM on shutdown?

There is no such thing as zone redundant vm. A vm exists in a single zone. To have zone redundancy you would need to deploy multiple vms across zones.

@@NTFAQGuy If you did that, would it then be costing you 3x the price? Whats the best way to have DR for a VM then?

@@jameswadsley3165 It depends on the service, your RPO, RTO. Often you scale horizontally so have multiple instances anyway. If this was single instance service you could use something like ASR.

Let say there are 5 data centre and for my VM i get option to select 1 or 2 or 3. does that mean our of 5 data center 3 are locked for my subscription. so az 1 for my subscription will always point to the same data center?

Az1 for a sub will always point to same set of dcs out of all available in region
