Recording then was still very much a ‘live’ experience. Gigli is without question the possessor of one of the most beautiful voices in history.

What treasure Gigli was to Opera. Such a beautiful and pure sound..Only Di Stefano came close to Gigli in the post war years to the individuality and velvety texture of his voice. These were unique artists. Thank God we still have recordings of these performances. I am indeed thankful to this channel for sharing this. Very moving.

Beautifully sung..... Gigli, oh Gigli. Age cannot ever remove a perfect performance. The English reserve without any nod or smile of well done from the HMV executives. Pity we couldn't see their response at the end.

Not sung in the Handel manner, but the composer would have died listening to such beautiful singing.. have heard this record for 60 or more years, never dreaming there was a video... Thx 2 British pathe ...

Always for me the most attractive voice ever - if by some miracle I was allowed to hear one voice “live” it would be his - and I know the legends I’m consigning to 2nd place when I say that 🤷♂️.

There is technique and there is God given beauty of the voice itself. Gigli had them both, a majestic singer rivalled only by the great Enrico Caruso.

@@umaratabilgi161 The original is in F. Gigli sings this in G. Most tenors actually transpose this piece up to G anyway, it sits a little better and is a bit more rousing for the high notes.
