When naming their first child, my parents went with a biblical name, Benjamin, and a family name, Harrison. 13 years later, their third child would ask them why they named him after a rather forgettable president. Probably a lot more decent than any politician today. Most men of those days had their vices, but they had honor and read books especially the Bible. Yes Benjamin Harrison was always the donut hole in between Grover Cleveland's presidencies and the grandson of the guy who had the shortest run as us president. But nothing about his presidency was ever really taught. Sadly he was a very good guy who just couldn't get past Congress and isn't as well known because so many others around him were flashier. When I was a kid, my dad once took me to his alma mater, Miami University, to show me what fraternities would be like once I got into college. He was the President of the Phi Delta Thetas. Turns out, we were there bc Dad had a meeting with the alumni to commemorate Benjamin Harrison, also being President of the Phi Delts. They unveiled a portrait of Harrison in their chapter room. I didn’t realize it at the time, as I was just a kid engrossed in my Nintendo DS, but thanks to my dad’s connections, I was and am to this day, the only non-fraternity member to ever set foot in the Miami Phi Delt chapter room. I still remember the portrait of Harrison, which was admittedly pretty cool.

Had no idea he had compassion for the plight of the freed slaves. Thank you for this documentary, I didn't realize he was such a good man, and a good president.

The one thing I know about Benjamin Harrison is that he was apparently the first president to have his voice recorded. Still, better to be forgotten then to go down in history as a monster, *cough* Andrew Jackson *cough*

I’m a proud Hoosier. If you come to Indianapolis, you can visit Benjamin’s house. We also have a beautiful World War Memorial. There’s so much history there.

Fantastic video so far! I’m curious though, what song is playing in the background at 16:00, during the discussion on conservation efforts? I love it.

8th great grandpa? I'm 46 and William Henry Harrison is my great-great-grandfather and Benjamin Harrison my great grandfather. Unless you're like 2 years old to go 8 generations back you would have to go all the way back to Britain your grandfather eight generations back never would have even saw this country

I am related to Benjamin Harrison and the Virginia family of Harrisons. My 7th grandmother is Elizabeth Basset, who is the wife of founding father Benjamin Harrison and the Niece of Martha Washington. George Washington wife. George Washington never had any kids or his own. President William Henry Harrison and his Grandson President Benjamin Harrison and Cousin of some sort President Abraham Lincoln are all blood related, with President George Washington through marriage. A great ancestry bloodline of mine.

As a Mixed Race lady from the South, I thank God for people like Benjamin Harrison who tried to champion the rights of minorities. I also support keeping American businesses flourishing. Why should our economy suffer just so we can trade openly with other countries??

I believe most people forget Rutherford B. Hayes more than the 9th president's grandson, the 23rd president, Benny Boy Harrison. I think Ben did some great things during his term.
