We join the 2023 #Ducati #Scrambler on the sunny streets (and subdued parking garages, thanks to the wind) of Valencia to see if the new bike still has the great retro feel of the original.
I'm joined by our tame racer, Adam 'Chad' Child for a quick chat about the new bike, and how it compares, both to the previous generations of bikes, and to our expectations.

Top review guys! Loved my 2019 scrambler and regret selling it. Have called my local dealer today and placed an order (lucky to get to be getting one for June due to demand) did on a pcp for the first time and it cost £136 per month for 3 years with a small deposit. Seems like a great deal to me!

Awesome news Jim. Thanks for commenting with the PCP deal too, I'm sure that will help alot of others. We didn't have any details on the PCP deals at time of filming, so its great to keep expanding the knowledge. I bet you can't wait for it to arrive!

Thanks Martin. I think the colour options are great. We didn't mention it in the video, but since filming, we found out that the parts needed to change colour are around £260 from the dealer, so, while not cheap, very affordable. The second hand market will also be full of stock parts as people swap out, meaning you could pick up a cheap set and have them sprayed or wrapped pretty cheaply. I'm really looking forward to seeing what people come up with.

All three new 2023 800cc Scrambler models are Quick Shifter Ready. On the Icon and Nightshift it's available as a £237.60 Ducati Accessory. However, the Full Throttle has one as standard equipment included in the £10,995 OTR price. They can be ordered now at M&P Ducati, Cardiff where I work as the Ducati Sales Executive.

Nice thorough review. Also enjoyed the dual presentation chat style. It's a nice bike & I can totally see the appeal but it's rather expensive for what it is & you're definitely paying a heavy premium for the Ducati badge.

2015 Full Throttle owner here - it seems like ‘the bike’ is still fundamentally the same in 2023 as it was in 2015 - same engine, same power + torque, same basic frame/suspension/handling, same familiar (customisable) styling - but all the ‘improvements’ are electrical gadgets that the bike probably doesn’t need - TFT dash, phone connectivity and rider modes don’t make ‘the bike’ better - Traction control on a bike with 73bhp? Cornering ABS on a bike with soft suspension and only 1 brake disc up front? The two main issues from the original bike were the seat - which was a torture device, especially for taller riders - and the clutch, which was a very weak mechanical point. You could argue, as Chad rightly does, that the ‘Hipster’ marketing around the bike hasn’t done it any favours in the long run either. Servicing is expensive (compared to other budget bikes) too with a Desmo servicing needed every 7.5k miles and new timing belts every 15k miles or 5 years - these are competent DIY-er jobs or, more realistically, into a dealer or specialist. They were (still are) lovely bikes because of their basic-ness and simplicity, fun character and miles of smiles. It seems all the extra gadgets have taken away from this and inflated the price unnecessarily.
@bennettsbikesocial
@bennettsbikesocial Жыл бұрын
You are spot on. My biggest fear when I saw the new bike was that the no-frills enjoyment of the original bike would be lost - especially with the rider modes, but I was pleased that the original feel of the bike is still there. It makes it a hard sell for Ducati as upgrading is less important for original owners, but equally, it was such a great concept that its great that it stays on-the-whole unchanged. Re the seat - they new one is a big improvement. At 5'6" I liked the low seat of the original, but even I'm finding it a bit low and might start looking for taller seat options. Thanks for your watch, and taking the time to comment. Steve

In a perfect world no one would need safety equipment like (cornering) ABS or traction control. I've been riding motorcycles for 29 years and had ABS on bikes since early 2000 and allthough I only realy needed it a couple of times I was pretty damn happy I had it on my bike when I did. Now I own the Scrambler 1100 wich has traction control, something I never had or missed before but knieing I have this extra bit of safety when I might need it in some situations just gives me that extra peace of mind. Still always try to ride like those systems aren't there to catch me though. In the past people where debating the use of ABS and if they could out oerform it but nowadays everybody pretty much agrees that if you aren't a Moto GP rider you are always better of with ABS.

They said it was normal. But i figured it needed a valve adjustment, but they would t admit it . Then what made me get rid of it my 2021 scrambler was while it was under warranty both front and rear brakes stopped working and after them having for a week they said it needed a brake fluid change that was going to cost me $800. So I went to the dealer and traded it in for a Harley. I do not miss it one bit.

Sounds like you had the front cylinder piston knock like mine, Ducati changed out barrel and piston on warranty for me within two weeks of me reporting the issue. Other than that my 1100 was faultless and I thrashed that bike. Funny I was sad to see mine go

I brought the 2016 Urban Enduro, as much as I loved the style and low seat height- that was a brick ☝️, I got the seat modded , upgraded the suspension and a small dart screen,made a massive difference in comfort. BUT the poor fuel ⛽️ range in Australia ( as I tank range ) just didn’t do it for me . My latest bike is the Moto Guzzi V85tt -upgraded model with the tubeless rims etc . Has for features I love 1. Large tank -500km range 2. All day comfort 3. Shaft drive 4. Cruise control 5. Great TFT layout Fantastic timeless looking bike for going to a coffee shop or touring with some light off road .

@bennettsbikesocial Жыл бұрын
Agreed - the seat on the early models is awful. By the sounds of your needs - I think it was probably the wrong bike for you. The early Urban Enduros looked the part, but I think there was a clue in the title - Urban use only. V85TT is a great choice though - glad you found the right bike!

That’s a ridiculous price, definitely paying for the Ducati name, I’ve just sold my 18 plate scrambler 1100 I bought as ex demo 500 miles for £9500 and I thought that was expensive, but couldn’t resist its beauty. No regrets as it was a fantastic bike and sounded amazing with a pair of SC project cans, Ducati should sell this 800 with sump guard and radiator guard and quick shifter as standard for around £8500, that’s what i missed on my 1100 so eventually had to buy.

@bennettsbikesocial

To be honest, that was my biggest fear. I like the old air-cooled desmodue engine, lumps and all. I was afraid that the Scrambler would go down the Monster route - the final S4R monsters were so far from the original 600 that it should have been another model. For me, the Scrambler is still a Scrambler...

Nice design but that’s about it. Now with an Over inflated price, still expensive service costs, extremely hot and massive vibration. No one needs riding modes on a 72 hp bike, no cruise as even an option and no quick shifter for all that money. Why anyone thinks these are premium bikes has fallen for the marketing and why people continue to purchase Ducati’s is beyond me. There are a huge amount of competitors out there that have better bikes for the money.
