"This painting makes me smile from ear to ear, the pop of yellow is irresistible. Nigel Freeman is great, I learned of a new artist, and the guest's shocked reaction is so genuine. (If I could own anything that has ever appeared on the show, it would be this because it makes me so happy)."

Wow... What an amazing art piece... Honestly, I thought it'd be more than 7-10k. I'd consider buying it.

Sold at auction in 2018 for $10k. I think it’s a gorgeous piece and would’ve leant it to a museum. Also would’ve loved to see the other piece. For those complaining about stating he was an African-American artist means a lot in the art world bc it’s attracting certain and/or multiple markets & collectors. Just like Chinese art, advertising posters, female artists, Mission furniture, etc. You aren’t that ignorant to the reason why it’s important to appraisals, just want to be silly trolls. Go away and let the rest of us appreciate the show in peace.

Love the use of green and blue in this painting, and the light brown outlining really makes the elements stand out. I'm looking for a print online and can't even find it. Would love to be able to get it. Based on some of the works I am seeing in a few minutes of research, this artist should be more well known than he is.

if you were born in america then you are american, do we really have to point out his colour by stating african american, no we dont, talking in this manner is keeping segregation alive.

N B that's not what this means. It's the PC way of saying someone is black. It has nothing to do with country of origin. Or else we would have to say Nigerian American or Kenyan American etc etc
@elleh3495
@elleh3495 4 жыл бұрын
Bob England I disagree. Pretending like cultural differences don't exist is actually more racist than simply acknowledging it. There is a long and well-known struggle of Blacks in America. That struggle infused much of their art, cooking, and music. Let's not homogenize everything so you can feel comfortable being in your liberal "know zone". BTW "segregation" was outlawed, so saying someone is black or african american is not segregation.

@@elleh3495 Exactly this. Except OP is not pushing some liberal know zone as you put it It's racist code for, Get over it already. Slavery's been gone 150 years. So we're gonna ignore where you came from. (Jim Crow and lynchings are only small footnotes to them) It's the racists attempt to dispel the genetic and social inheritance of generational traumas and abuse and snuffs out any thought of reparations even tho this country's wealth was built on their backs Tho I will give them this - the families descendant of Slaves havr been in this country longer than almost everybody else which makes then more American than most of us and this country and makes America their country as much as anybody else. And I am as liberal as they come. This is my know zone.

Don't be one of those people....... He was a black guy living in America during a time of huge social changes, so the environment he lived through is highly relevant to his life and art story. FFS

@@jakecooper5855 Exactly. The pigment of your skill doesn't impact one's ability to paint, but it does impact your social mobility and your ability to become recognized. In that sense external traits (class, race, sexuality, etc) are relevant.

Why not $10,000? You mean it will get more? Most us of us here may not be art buffs but given the positive reactions here, and this AR appraisal, I don't see why not. Oh, I think I see now from a later comment. Is it because he was black? So perhaps this appraisal may be too low compared to if it were a white artist that'd perhaps be lauded for his technique?

I've never understood the appeal of this type of purposefully rough or simplistic art. Those weird outlines; why?😬 When I was a kid in the early 70's I had a textbook illustrated with simple stylized cartoons & torn-paper collage pictures that were just so ugly to me. At 7 y/o I was wondering "why would they choose ugly pictures?" I had to look at them all year!
