I think its like Michael said. He comes across a young hard working honest dude. Yes, he does some real candy pop stuff, but its top notch pop. But his passion/honesty comes across as well, so can't hate anyone for that. And basically he does other genres as well, because he is talented and loves to create. How can you not like that. :)

it is fucking difficult to make number 1s, takes lot of skill to write/produce simple catchy melodies that will inevitably affect millions of people in such a audibly aesthetic way. e.g. Max martin has it fucking locked down. luck is when somebody scores number one hit and then you never hear from them again. but when you have guy with 20 number one hits under his belt and he keeps producing some of the best songs year after year after year, believe me luck has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Music is simple? I dare you to remake "Thriller" or "1999." Better yet, I dare you to remake "Fame Monster," "Born This Way", or "Teenage Dream." Just the music. Until you can do that, then you have all the reason to call music "easy." My point is that music is not easy. It takes hard work to create infectious songs no matter how simple it sounds.

I just dont get how he doesn't use midi. Does he record instruments that he plays live or manipulate a bunch of samples?

Well you have to factor the equipment that he can get his hands on, Dr.Luke is the same way no midi's or vst's unless they find a sound they really like. I don't really get it either how they don't use them, when I started making music I was pointed to them like they were the only way lol. Now I'm feeling like I need to go to a thrift store and start looking for random things to use.

Reca412 He goes on about using cheap keyboards but you can easily create those sounds with FM plugin synths. What i don't get is how Benny Blanco says he inputs notes one at a time, so he must be layering monophonic audio to create chords. Like an orchestra really. I don't believe all that i hear. i think its a case of him & Luke playing there cards very close to their chests.

Pretty easy. He just records the outputs of his synths. He might quantize them in the DAW (you can still do that with audio doesn't need to be midi).

FL and Nexus don't have brains. I'm saying- give an intelligent musician the resources this guy has- and the results will be the same. SO many producers go unnoticed because of things like this.

False. Actually, Katy Perry writes a lot of her own stuff. She came up in the music business writing for other people, before she got famous. Look it up.

Honestly- we all want to be superstars- this guy obviously wants to be respected and doesn't want to have it written that he is 'cheating' with VSTs... but damnit practice what you preach.
