It’s July 31st.9.00 pm ….. There is something special about this Concert…..It gives Hope to all musicians and All those who love JAZZ…lt was 1959 when I played Benny Golson’s tune Killer Joe in Barnstable Devon England. I play Whisper Not,now in my 90th.year.

WOW! 92 and still blowing! This man has composed some of my favorite tunes.

Grew up with this man´s sound. And played a set with him ( i play tenor also) on HIS gig. i was really honored.

Absolutely love Russell's tone in this recording. Wish all records sounded like this!

Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Bobby Timmons come to mind. Truly giants of the hard-bop scene in the mid/late 50’s and of course included….Benny Golson whom in those days turned the Jazz world upside down. And Benny is still going strong!! An other contemporary of Benny is Lou Donaldson, turning bloody 95 in November 2021! These incredible Jazz Giants are a national treasure! Apart from some sound problems this is a great live-gig! Dig/Enjoy folks. G’day & Cheers!

I had the pleasure of playing with Mr. Golson in a week-long workshop 10 years ago. He's just the sweetest guy, always encouraging young musicians, always telling stories.

Wow, Benny Golson; glad he's still around. Got to get to bed, but I hope when I awake I hear "Along Came Betty".

Emmet has always had the most stunning arrangements. Apart from his exceptional ability as a pianist, he has always had the ability to create arrangements on the fly. Taking nothing away from his superb Trio.

This is impossible in 2021 to have such great musicians playing SO tasty and with the right feeling. Gives hope and thank you...

Blessed to meet this man twice, and shake his hand twice. I have his autograph on “Gone with Golson”. Hopefully someday soon a third time!

'I remember Clifford'. I've always loved this melody. I like even more now that I know the story behind it. Gotta learn to play it.

Adding to my last post, yesterday was my birthday and what a great present this is to be able to listen to these great musicians. I have been a jazz fan for around 67 years and I can say that the future of our great music is in very safe hands. Thank you & mazel & baruchas to all of you

I had the privilege to see Mr. Golson backed by Emmet's trio in Montreal, about 3 years ago. So happy to see that Mr. Golson is doing well.

They should've boosted his mic volume! Sheesh. But you know, I'm not surprised if they weren't prepared. Cohen himself released a press release the day before the concert stating that Benny had "put down the horn" for good so he was only going to be telling his humorous stories that evening. Wow, it's nice to see he was out of it on that one. He can still do it! I spoke with him between sets at a small club once, and told him I played sax too -- a Buescher, not a Selmer. He was very enthusiastic, saying "I played a Boo-sher! It was my first horn!"

Just a frag more level, a better angle and smidge of reverb on Benny's SM57 wouldn't have hurt. Fabulous all the same. But it's all about the fantastic anecdotes and philosophies this night.
