here is the final clip from the BuddyRich tribute concert that i did with the Royal College of Music BigBand in London.
This is a shortened version of the tune : "Time Check" that we played that night.
it was such a joy to play this material and i hope you have fun checking it out too.
pls understand that i cannot post everything in full length cause of copyright reasons

I think the double bass pedal was first used in jazz tho. It just became more prominent in metal.

@@lazydog5065 indeed! The great Louie Bellson pioneered the double bass setup. Check out “Explosion!” by Louie Bellson. Personally, I think he’s definitely up there with Buddy

Excuse my lack of knowledge of all logistics involved, but is there no way possible to encourage the powers that be to release this officially on dvd or blu-ray? I'm not about gobbling up the precious goods for free. Artists deserve to get paid for their performance! I for one would put my money down to experience this concert, and obviously I'm echoing the thoughts of an entire onslaught of Benny's fans! Regardless, Benny continues to amaze and dazzle....

I mean, I think that when you're covering Buddy, you have an unspoken obligation to show some hand speed. If Buddy had a calling card, I'd say that, arguably, doing the 50-yard dash around the kit was it.

0SakA it’s more hands and rudimentally based. Has less linear style, which is what dominates nowadays. I mean it’s whatever, I respect Benny for being Benny no matter what, he’s got a excellent sound obviously, but it’s just funny he wouldn’t play the fills of that style. It’s just different bro, any drummer could tell you that.

Louie Bellson and Ed Shaughnessy started playing double bass drums in jazz way back in the 1940s to 1950s, so yeah... Nothing new or shocking there.

@george nolte Because I knew Buddy personally, and had quite a few talks with him about this and that, that's how the hell. But, we all have our own OPINIONS. george nolte I’m not hating on matched man, I use it for fuck sake, I’m just sayin that in numerous instances buddy took a stand against it so he might not be thrilled seeing his pieces played like that, also I know he played matched at times but he ultimately decided he didn’t like it, as he got older he got grumpier and decided matched grip was the enemy of jazz (it’s really not)

hi hat on 2 + 4!!!! this video is obviously amazing, but I feel like the constant quarter note hi hat really took away from the swing of the song, makes it sound straighter and more metronomic, less tippin

Incredible as always, although it seemed like in the solos he leaned on his double kick rather than rise to the challenge of doing some great stick work ala Buddy Rich. There was almost no snare work at all.

The band are good, the drummer is sloppy and his articulation of the phrases is dreadful. He is more concerned with playing a million beats in his fills than keeping it all together and staying in the idiom of the music they are playing.

Peter Hughes lol are you high? While he’s definitely not playing idiomatically correct, everything is articulated perfectly and cleanly. All the hits are very clearly set up. If the band wasn’t sloppy they should have nailed everything.
