There are 2 views about life after death - 1. Believers goto Jesus as soon as they die. 2. Soul sleeping and would be resurrected later during rapture. Whatever you believe in , ultimately both of these are citizens of heaven. So he probably saw thro visions hiw they are like and what they do.
