Honestly it’s interesting how in the first film Ransom was this really intelligent guy who thought of intricate ways to kill people and cover his tracks while allowing someone else to be the prime suspect while Miles is a vainglorious buffoon who’s ideas were all stolen from others and tries to hide in plane sight and misdirects, acting like he’s only possibly intelligent but secretly not knowing a thing. And he also gives his other friend a glass full of pineapple juice in front of everyone, killing him with an allergy only he would know about and was right next to at the time. And the one clever thing he did, trying to shoot Andi while the lights were off. He only did that because Benoit warned him about it! I just noticed how the movie forshadowed the nature of the mystery by showing Blanc getting irittated at "dumb" mysteries, like getting instantly found out on Among Us, and of course when he and Helen were talking about Clue when he said "I'm very bad at dumb things..." That explains why Blanc is mad at how Miles nearly duped him...he's REALLY bad at dumb things!

He wasn't nearly duped. He solved the mystery in less than half an hour, and that includes a 20-minute blackout where people were trying not to get killed themselves. It only felt like a long time because they stopped and did a huge rewind in the middle. The idea that he is allergic to dumb isn't even necessary, but the audience has to feel like the extra run time made this last the whole evening.

“No! It’s just dumb!” Gotta agree with Blanc on that. Sure, it took quick thinking to use that Pineapple allergy to his advantage. But then to try and twist it into “Oh god, it was my glass! SOmEone triED to POIson me!” Would fall apart in 2 seconds the moment Blanc or the authorities tested the contents of the glass, or an autopsy didn’t find any poison. (I mean, if Miles wanted to play it off as a poisoning meant for him, you’d expect… you know… poison) Alternatively Miles could have just played it off as “oh god! I had pineapple in my drink, and he must have grabbed mine by mistake!” It’s no wonder Blanc is disappointed, he was expecting crossing wits with a diabolical mad genius murderer and gradually catch him in his own web. And all he wound up getting was a lucky rich moron flying by the seat of his pants.

Would it be fair to say the only innocent one of the group is Peg (Birdie’s assistant)? She had no connection/dependency to Miles (even tried to convince Birdie to not follow his instructions) or any involvement with Andi’s death. One can argue the reason she didn’t raise her hand is because like Helen, Peg is set with her word (an assistant’s) against powerful people’s (the disrupters/shitheads). Helen didn’t even face her when asking the others to step up, (only Birdy) because she knew Peg had almost nothing to do with the whole situation to have any significance to Miles’ downfall. Correct me if I’m wrong anywhere
@pisces2569
@pisces2569 Жыл бұрын
Not really. Peg is dependent on Birdie who is dependent on Miles. Miles was planning to buy out Birdie if she takes full responsibility for committing a human rights violation. This will negatively impact Peg because she will be out of a job with Birdie and no one will hire her. Peg clearly stated that the only thing outstanding on her resume was being an assistant to Birdie. She has nothing else of her own to fall back on or use. So Peg may not have been directly connected or depended on Miles but she was indirectly connected/dependent.

If it weren't for his arrogance and being baited in Marta's deception, he could've gotten away. Miles, on the other hand, was a bit smart but not up to the level of Ransom. This is because his plans were too stupid and noticeable, and the fact he does things that would clearly give him too much attention. What I love is that it was true that it happened right it front of our eyes but because it happened so fast our brains didn't really remember it correctly so when we were given a modified version of the truth we took it as how it actually happened. I was so sure that Duke took Miles cup until I rewatched that exact scene and realised they hadn't changed it. I love it so much. This is what makes the Knives Out franchise so much better than the Death on the Nile and other murder mysteries. The key is that clues are given to you at the beginning of the film that blatantly show who the killer is but without the ending it doesn't make as much sense. It's being able to rewatch it and still enjoy seeing all the clues and how they actually make sense.

A lot of people are annoyed that it was so obvious apparently. I find the movie enjoyable regardless because the performances and scenery are still stunning, among some other reasons that I'll talk about more at length below, but due to the fact that all of the "clues" are just right in your face, I can kind of see why people think it's boring and/or stupid. Though I'd argue the fact that it's stupid is entirely the point. Glass Onion is not a whodunit, it's a satire of the whodunit. Rather than force you to pay attention to every detail like a traditional murder mystery, the movie tries to take advantage of the viewer's hightened attention to make you think of almost completely unrelated things to distract you from the fact that the killer is incredibly obvious. If the viewer just so happened to see Miles handing Duke the glass, then they are already aware of who the killer is and their engagement in the movie should be in how it is revealed to the characters, i.e. dramatic irony. You could argue it takes too long to get to the point, that's totally respectable, but I find it odd to criticize the movie for being too simple and dumb when that's exactly what the movie is trying to do, so you are inadvertently saying the movie did a good job.

I appreciate that what makes Miles a compelling villian for a detective is not that hes skilled at lying or deceiving. But because he literally just has the power to bend reality around him. He can burn the evidence in front of your face but what does it matter if no one is willing to admit it? How do you beat something like that with truth.

Something I really like about Benoit blanc in both movies is that he's not a prick, he's not some tragic tortured soul who has to be ruthless to get the job done. He's fun and he has a good time, no he isn't a perfect character he's written to have flaws like everyone else, it especially helps that in both movies most of the people in it are pretty terrible so it's nice to have someone else in it who stands out and genuinely wants to help

Can anybody tell me why Miles didn't freak out in the island when he saw the lady he just tried (and suceeded) to kill a few days before the party? Did he know it was actually the twin sister at the arrival scene? And if so, why he didn't freak out about that too? And why did Miles allowed Blanc (best detective ever) to stay at the island, knowing that either the woman he tried to kill or her sister were there and would certainly tell the whole plot to Blanc himself? And also knowing that one of the two sisters was certainly who sent the box invite to Blanc?Miles actions after Duke told him she was dead make more sense. But before that scene, Miles behavior is totally illogical, no matter how dumb he was.

That is also something I have been wondering. Not only is Miles' reaction way off when he sees Helen arriving on the island, Duke's reaction is also very weird when he finds out the news of Andi's death. This might sound like a stupid question, but what exactly was dumb about Miles poisoning Duke’s glass with pineapple? If anything, it would be more convincing because it’s just a regular ingredient in his drink, so it’d be much harder to prove that the glass was intentionally poisoned than it would if an actual poison had been used. Is it that an allergy wouldn’t guarantee death? Someone please explain it for me.

It’s not dumb because he used pineapple juice. What’s dumb about it to Blanc is that he’s been working under the assumption that the killer had an intricate, well thought out plan, when in reality, Miles just killed Duke with what was conveniently right there without putting in any thought. He also claimed that it was poison, when he could have easily just said Duke accidentally drank from his cup to begin with.

This is such an idiotic movie. The first one was so good. It fooled us with scenes where we missed clues and when we rewind the movie, we feel stupid for not seeing it before. But this movie just has two alternative scenes most of the time. For instance: One where he puts the glass on the table in the flashback and the other one, where he hands him the glas. And even more insulting was the scene where Bautistas character watches his girlfriend having an "afair". He´s being watched by Craigs character and only him. But later we see the exact same shot but Craigs character is not alone anymore just so the movie can say "see. You missed that part!". The movie just pretends to be smarter then you and when you ask "Wait wasn´t he alone?" or "Wait didn´t her hand him the glas?" and then the movie just lies and shows you a scene that didn´t actually happen. And it does it all the time. This is not a smart movie. It´s like somebody who pretends to be smart because he uses complicated sounding words that make you feel stupid, because you don´t know them. But the words are just made up and make no sense. Like this movie. It feels like a first draft and not a finished script.
