HOW MUCH FITNESS HAVE I LOST? 10 weeks NO RUNNING.. recovery from broken ankle injury!

After breaking my ankle at the start of March, we had surgery to inset a metal plate shortly after. Then started 6 weeks of non weight bearing at home, two weeks of partial weight bearing with crutches, two weeks of walking unaided with a few minutes of running.. and then after 10 weeks we were able to run all week. Plus there was about 22 hours training on Zwift overall! Join us here, 11 weeks on.. as we run a 5k and delve into the data to see how much fitness has been lost!

My PB for a 5km is 34:48. I am quite proud of that as I am still working on losing weight to get into better shape to run further and for longer. Speed isn't as important to as the distance. I am happy that you're able to enjoy running again.

Great to see you back to hard work, Ben. Take care of yourself, first and foremost though! You'll be back in peak form soon and looking forward to see you keep pushing! :D I can highly recommend the Hoka one one Rincon or Bondi6 for easy runs. They feel great and responsive despite being quite cushioned. I just recently retired my Rincons after 1k miles where the wear and tear really started to kick in and I could feel it. Bought new Bondi6 and Carbon X for long runs and intervals, respectively, and really love the change in shoes every now and then :)

Congrats Ben, great to see you running fast again (relative to being couch ridden, not your former self)! Have you done Altras? My favorite shoes. Maybe you could try the escalante, provision or Torin? Also, ever heard of Stryd power meters? I swear by it and base all my pacing off it because it's so consistent and doesn't need GPS signal, plus the critical power it calculates is a great measure of where your fitness is at.

The 45 is a great watch for so many people.. you made a good choice there! Yes, try to give yourself a day off between runs.. just let your body absorb everything you're putting through it. Especially if you're doing weights as well. Hope the knee pain settles very soon! All the best!

Nike have 30% off online on everything. I got peg 36 x 2 for €120 including delivery. When I come back from an injury it is always the head that takes a few runs before I can move on but a TT is always good to put a line down where your fitness is. Keep it going as won't be long before you are getting close to your previous numbers

+1 for the 1080v10, they are the best easy run shoe I’ve ever used, nothing else I’ve tried has come close. I can’t seem to improve much on my 5k PB of 19:55. I worked really hard to run a sub 20min 5k but have since been focusing on bringing my half marathon times down so I feel I’ve neglected my speed work, although my fitness has definitely improved in the last few months it doesn’t seem to reflect in my 5k time!

GETTING IT DONE! That was impressive. Especially when the extra weight would have lost you atleast a minute. seemed to really enjoy the pain though😂😂 EASY SHOE: Saucony hurricane 22!

Interesting about what happened with your Garmin. My Garmin did a very similar thing. First run after a five week break it also gave me a very weird route, although the distance and time were about right. Perhaps it's got a virus ;)

Another great video Ben. I've been doing a lot of running in 'On Cloudflows' and find them very comfortable and responsive. It would be interesting to find out your thoughts!
