In this video, I give my thoughts on UK Police Auditors. Self-proclaimed 'Public Servants' who simply go around filming for a reaction. I don't think many of you will be surprised to hear what I think about this but this was heavily requested and I thought I would poke the hornets nest! Enjoy, Ben x

Wayne Couzens didn't like being filmed. If police respect people's right to film them nobody will watch "audit" videos. It's that simple. As it is there are dozens of instances in the UK where "auditors" have recorded criminal behaviour by police.

Inspector Dean Gittoes at Merthyr Tydfil arrested a 16 year old "for terrorism" because he was filming the outside of the station. He then went on to brag to his colleagues that he was fed up of being filmed and being made to look like an idiot so he arrested him for terrorism. Little did he know the phone he grabbed off the kid was still recording... Auditing Wales I think the kid was called. Flagrant abuses of power like this are sometimes caught and I personally think that makes the auditors a valuable "public" service. Auditing developed as a consequence of photographers/journalists being abused by the police (mainly S44 TACT which resulted in the act being repealed) to some extent the police created the problem. There are good and bad auditors, understandably you are focussing on the bad ones who in my opinion are not really auditors and I agree with most of your sentiments. What "real auditors" want is no reaction and minimal interaction and an end for the need to “audit”. I’d like to hear your views on the genuinely civil rights motivated people such as “Focus Pocus”. As an aside the NPCC guidance is clear on how to deal with auditors but, for whatever reason many officers ignore it or have not read it.

If a cop knows his or her bread and butter laws there shouldn't be a problem being filmed. However, having watched some auditors it's apparent that many cops either don't know these laws, or choose to abuse the law. The Terrorism Act, PACE and Public Order Act seem to be the most abused Acts. So Ben, if you know the basics of the law, you shouldn't have a problem. He got caught in The Siege of Tobruk for 9 months and only 32 came out alive. I explained he had not been born then and that I had walked these streets for at least 30 years before he was even born! He went off with his tail between his legs and I continued to my family home.

You should watch one auditor vid from the US. He's in the police car park filming, and the stereotype sheriff walks out, big hat, gun, tache and all. Sheriff says good morning and asks him if he's filming cars. Auditor says yes. Sheriff asks if he'd like to come around the back to see their new cars, and has a conversation. Gets a good idea of what the guy is doing without out once being a poundshop Judge Dredd. Sheriff suggests couple of nice places to eat in his town and wishes him well. Auditor leaves. Sheriff gets far more from that interaction than all the 'I am the law' dickwads commonly shown.

I noticed there was contradictory information i.e. running down auditors because only 60 people view their video and they're insignificant, then later saying they get 100k views and create a lot of exposure. He mentioned 05 plate vehicles following him home, so happened way before auditing. The auditor doesn't publicise the route home, or personal address of the officer. If someone had a big grudge they would likely wait around and see the VRN themselves without needing a video. He runs down auditors for just knowing 1 piece of legislation but doesn't acknowledge that many pieces of legislation are often quoted in audits along with officer conduct and adherence to codes of practice. He seemed to have a bullying approach to discussing this topic and it felt very biased against auditors without balance. (The point about how their footage helps him wasn't balance, that was him trying to make out that all they do is help him so they should give up).
@YT_User-
@YT_User- 2 жыл бұрын
@Kevin Keane he's speaking his opinion, but he comes across as very bias and unbalanced IMO. Auditors have objectively improved policing (photography laws, terrorism act usage, stop and search, policies on body worns, reasonable grounds necessity, SAR, PCSO designation card requirement, knife amnesty bin safety, waiting for controlled vehicle gate to close before leaving to prevent tailgating etc etc) If auditors were able to test how crimes are dealt with by officers without actually committing a crime elsewhere it would raise standards elsewhere too. Being a police officer is an incredibly difficult job and the rules are constantly changing. The situations they have to deal with are awful and would give anyone trauma/mental health issues, the public as a whole highly respects them. Many of ABs viewers are actually police officer's and watching his videos in an entertaining, but educational format has allowed thousands of officers to improve their practice whilst having fun at the same time. ^ that's just my opinion at this time, I respect your view too.

As far as I am aware, I've not come across an auditor who sits in their car waiting for a copper to come along. Most of whom I have seen are walking on foot doing their audit. In any case cops have had it too good for too long, beating and murdering members of the public and beating detained people in the cells In my City in the 70's a prisoner was murdered in police cells with a plastic bag placed over his head at Little Park Street Police Station Coventry. Coventry Police were also racist in the 70's and 80's Coventry had their share of corrupt Detectives also. All of the afore mentioned topics were before the days of P.A.C.E. It's now the public's turn to the turn tables on the Police and make then more accountable for their past illegal actions. The worst Police commissioner ever was Cressida Dick and her London Metropolitan Police Force. In my view the police have a long way way to go to repair the eroded line between the public and the Police....... I’ve watched auditing videos for several years, initially just American ones (and not in my dressing gown! 😉) I find them interesting because they juxtapose public authorities with the public’s rights. There are such a variety of auditors with equally varied motives. I personally prefer the passive, responsible auditors that seem to have rights and freedoms as their motivation. There are others that are in it for the drama, notoriety, and money - but they become obvious. It’s a shame officers like this chap don’t see the other side of auditing and have simply concluded that their only motivation is to ‘wind up coppers’. This is an unfair generalisation of the varied auditing community. There is another consideration he misses: police are a public service that we all pay for with no way of holding them accountable for poor behaviours and performance. Police are always going to be a focus on the very nature that they personify the governmental “authority”. Auditors have exposed some very poor policing behaviours in the past: a little public accountability to keep the authorities in check isn’t any harm at all. The shoe is very often on the other end of the foot with police recording the public and intruding on their privacy - they have to expect a similar response. The example the officer gave of someone following him home was chilling, but completely unrelated to auditing at all. The funny thing is, even though auditing has been a thing for so long, the penny still hasn’t dropped. If they ignored auditors, and didn’t engage - there would be really boring content, and people would stop watching. They have the power to stop it, but often individual officers ego won’t let them. 🤷‍♂️

They don’t make a lot of money. What they build their channel by being rude, obnoxious ect. an it’s like entertainment whic people all over the world love. So to go all over the place, state to state, they sale things but don’t make much on that so they, beg. Things I can’t make any new videos because I have to take off work then I have expenses so if you want more you can maybe make a small donation 2, 3, 5 dollars that would be great. They can ask for a small donation, in the end because they have a large number of subscribers, say like 36,000, if they get 1/4 of those, 9,000, to donate 2 dollars, that’s $18,000.00 dollars. The donation isn’t much but those who like and subscribe will give that, if they gave just a dollar that’s $9,000.00. If they got that every month, 12x9,000.00 = over 100,000.00, $108,000.00, and it’s tax free. Well you say people aren’t that stupid to give that much money, it’s $12.00 for one year and he will put out video’s to entertain them and they will continue to give $12.00. Can they count on that, no they don’t, here’s the kicker for donations. People all over the globe will donate money regularly. This example was on one of those investigator’s show and they interviewed a man from Australia who gave only $10.00 one month but wrote a letter apologizing because he could only give ten dollars, but he told him he usually donated $30.00 a month so next month he was sending $50.00 to make up for the twenty he couldn’t pay this month. How many people out of 36,000 is going to donate something between say 1 to 20 dollars? Let’s use 1/4th again, 9,000, if those 9,000 subscribers give $10.00, that’ $90,000. Let’s say they give only 1/4 of $20.00, $5.00. 5 times 9,000 is $45,000.00, tax free. For one year at $5.00 a month is $60.00 for the year, is $540,000.00, over half million. Now here’s the spoiler for all that figuring, how much will the other 27,000 viewers going to give. Now you see why they quit their jobs and are able to fly to a new state ever two or three days.

But this guy was not interested in hearing anything we were prepared to say, he just wanted to start an altercation/reaction. If there really is a security risk (because when was the last time there was a terrorist attack on a police station) then they wouldn’t make these police stations easily accessible and easily viewed. They’d be a big wall around those police stations. The car that followed him home doesn’t need to film him to follow him. Please tell the truth. At Kidderminster the AB auditor channel recorded policewomen who arrested a man who was just walking on public access land and incarcerated him for five hours. The reasons the officers gave, were 1) causing alarm and distress - FALSE, 2) suspicion under the Terrorism act - FALSE, and 3) breaking the "RRR Policing Laws - NO SUCH LAW. Inside they gave him an out of date copy of PACE - BREACH IF HIS RIGHTS. Later, another member of the public wanted to make a counter complaint and was refused - AGAINST IOPC ADVICE. In the process the police appear to have committed the criminal and other offences of: denial of two rights, assault, battery, breach of GDPR and unlawful detention. Those are four or five crimes by more than one officer which create a legitimate suspicion in the minds of the public that the police there are lawless. This means anyone now has a lawful reason to treat police from there as suspect and to film every interaction for their own safety. The result, Kidderminster became a magnet for auditors and public complaints which increased the likelihood of police being followed and all the things that you are not happy about!. West Mercia issued an apology and the Chief Superintendent spoke in public about it. And the result of this auditing: police at Kidderminster are more polite, more respectful and have ceased abusing the public's rights around the station. Proof positive the auditors provide a public service and you are talking absolute nonsense.

You have some really good points in this video but there's a but coming. It works the same when police ask for your name. You're not entitled to know someone's name just because you are police officer but you always ask for it alongside details. I don't want my face being monitored while I go to a football match and the police are going around with cameras " For our own safety ". I don't want to be filmed but the law, which you are using at this point is, you have no right to privacy while in public. I do agree that some auditors are going to get a rise from you but on the flipside some are showing how the police are breaking policing policies and are a law on to themselves. To summarise, I think this auditors are helping the situation here because they are showing the police hierarchy flaws in there training and why the public are not onside with them. If they actually take notice of what's going on then maybe the relationships can be made better and the public have more faith in the system.

As a professional film maker I’ve seen auditing videos and have mixed views on the subject. I think it’s right that auditors are challenged outside police stations. Auditors when challenged should be open and engaging about what they are doing and that they are not showing private vehicle plates etc . One the other side I’ve seen footage where auditors have shown memos regarding auditing from the Association of chief police officers to concerned officers and making it quite clear of their purpose filming . These officers have then escalated the interaction using anti terror laws and public order for no valid reason . Some common sense on both sides would be appreciated. I would also recommend both the public and police video all interactions for mutual protection.

As an auditor and someone who is interested in filmmaking and photography, I would agree with that, however police stations shouldn’t be off limits to filming, lots of people like to see different marked vehicles as well, even small children and places like Scotland Yard are famous and people want to get a photo or a video there as part of a travel vlog, some people get challenged just walking down the street as you mentioned, and why should we give out our name, address and phone number, I’m happy to be on first name terms with most officers who are polite and approachable, but I feel they don’t deserve anything from me if they are rude and aggressive and go down the route of terrorism

Unfortunately this is a deliberate misconception that the police and ignorant individuals like to portray to everyone. It's not true. In the hundreds if not thousands of auditor videos that are on KZfaq alone, every single one shows the auditor is approached by the police. The police chose to approach and interact. That is the point, the auditor knows the rules, and the legislation surrounding public photography, and filming in a public place, the issue has arisen from, and stems from as a result, decades of photographers been harassed, by police, illegally detained, illegally searched, and alot of the time illegally arrested, whilst having their details illegally gain by officers through the manipulation of the laws and legislations entrusted to them to Ironically enforce and protect the general public. Auditors don't just audit police stations either, they go around filming industrial sites, shopping centres, towns, cities, military bases, police stations, post offices, etc Whilst standing in a public place, they can legally film anything and anyone they like, and can see from that public place. The issue isn't the auditors, the issue is the people who do not understand the legal right to film and take pictures in public. This is also a very common practice now, and it is about time the police and others were educated. Father memos were sent to every police force in the country basically forbidding them to approach public photographers or people filming, they still insist on going against that, and harassing people.

As for what extent you can go to, it would essentially come down to the amount of force that the average member of the public would deem to be reasonable, hence why a jury made up of members of the public makes that decision in court. If you can justify your actions based on the threat you perceived and other members of the public would agree that's reasonable, then you are perfectly safe. There are a couple of times that I wished I had a camera with me when dealing with the Police and PCSO.. The first was a PCSO cycling along an allyway that had a NO CYCLING sign either end, I stopped her and pointed out that the youngsters see her doing it and think sod it she can do it... She told me she was allowed to ignore the signs if it was safe to do so and asked for my name, DOB and address, a tactic I feel was aimed at intimidating me, I declined unless she was planning to send me a birthday card.. I went straight to the nearby Police Station and reported the lass. Must have worked as they now push their bikes through the alleys... The other time was when my wife whilst driving witnessed a messy RTC, she phoned me all upset and said she felt she could not drive any further that day due to shock, I walked about a mile to the scene to find her, to be met with a shouting copper telling people to go away - which I can understand, but when I tried to tell him I was looking for my wife who was quite upset after witnessing the RTC he told me he was not there to help people and to go away, then when he noticed I was looking for his shoulder number he pushed his shoulders back to make it difficult to get the numbers.. A passer by asked if I was looking for the lady in the blue Renault and if so she was in a nearby house.. I thought about what had happened and phoned the force Professional Standards dept, they had the area Traffic Inspector phone me to arrange a meeting. He wanted me to travel 20 odd miles to a Police Station although I live 150yds from a main Police Station, so I declined and said I would contact their Professional Standards again... He then said my local station would be fine.. At the meeting the Inspector said that he had been at the RTC scene and what I was telling him was a load of rubbish... I told him he was not there - only the stroppy copper. He then admitted he was not there but was testing my story.. I had a letter from Profession Standards a month or so later to say my complaint had been dealt with and the officer disciplined..

Nobody had filmed this lad decking a guy half his size or me running down the street to try and stop it (which we're not meant to do, we're not covered if we are off the premises). Video goes viral in my local area (I've never looked at it since it passed about 20k views) The main thing that got to me was the comments saying how I need shooting, I was high on drugs, lets arrange a load of boys to go and sort him out.. all for trying to do the best I'm my job. There was cctv showing the full incident that would of shown the truth but obviously it can't be released. Even had to help the police arrest the guy later on yet that one video almost made me quit. They would eventually go away when they realise they have no audience . But it has to be said that some of the officers don't fully know their Police Powers. Get that right and auditors can't rile you! If you don't react to them, they don't need to know who you are, above the number on you shoulder. Let them read. If your pals getting locked up for having a boot load of green, don’t record and post on Facebook saying the police are arresting him for no reason. My brother was home invaded by two drunken cops one New Years Eve. He was home with his wife and three children under 5. Unfortunately for these cops my brother is a boxer and he knocked one spark out and every tooth out of the other. The police came and arrested my brother. They locked him up for court the following morning and the cover up that was attempted was outrageous. Luckily the judge had a meltdown when he heard the case, released my brother and ordered the two cops arrested an charged for the home invasion. My brother was just an ordinary hard working man with a family and these cops went from top of his road to the bottom smashing car windows and then for some reason knocked his door, knocked his 7 month pregnant wife to the floor and barged in the house. I bet they spent many years regretting they knocked his door that night. I only live around the corner and my sister in law called me. By the time I got there one guy was hobbling up the road with blood pouring from his mouth crying and screaming that he had no teeth left. The other was unconscious on my brothers drive where he had hit him and knocked him flying back through the door to land on the driveway. We had no camera phones or house cameras in those days and those cops though they would get away with it.

He's right. These self appointed 'auditors' with their arrogant air of entitlement, are not the brightest buttons in the box, despite yelling that they know their 'wites'. Their sole goal is to provoke arguments with the added hope of an 'assault'. Why are new laws not being introduced to prohibit loitering around police stations, prisons & businesses harassing staff with filming equipment? Anyone confronted by these time wasters should simply play copyrighted music on their mobiles making uploading the clip a waste of time as You Tube would censor the audio making the clip boring to watch. Although the police might not be able to do this, they need to apply whatever laws are available to stop themselves being goaded into the desired situations that these muppets are aiming for.

Firstly, I’m no fan of auditors and I’ve nothing against the police. I love the way auditors don’t like it when someone films them. But one thing that the police need to sort out is that just because someone doesn’t have a job it doesn’t make them a bad person or in any way reflect on their personality. The way police regularly ask things like “have you got a job” is unacceptable unconscious bias. It needs to stop.

I think it's a great way to weed out and expose the corrupt officers such as Dean Gittoes who assaulted a 16 year old just because he wouldn't give his name when asked. It's also nice to see the officers that are carrying out their duty respectfully when engaging with auditors. There is also good and bad auditors as well as cops. Ultimately the police should know how to handle any situation within the boundaries of the law so I feel no sympathy for any officer that gets aggressive, rude and breaks laws to stop anyone auditing, good or bad.

I don't believe your story about getting followed home. If anyone got your address from your reg number, the police can easily find out who has searched for that, whether its another officer or someone who works for an insurance company (as they are the only two professions who can access that info) plus if your info was leaked from a reg number on an auditors channel (as your implying) the force would have definitely prosecuted that auditor and we would have heard about it.

They lie about the law, they lie about the powers they have, they assault members of the public and they abuse laws set out to protect the public so that they can victimize them. but you have a problem with the auditors??? Plus if you’d like to leave your full name and address. I’ll happily attend your house, stand on the pavement, and film you, your car and property then post it over the internet for all to see. As for videos re auditors and officers, that’s fine, but the video is about me, my thoughts and my views. Please show me a videos of auditors dealing with me, and my lying, breaking the law etc….and I’ll agree with you. Last of course the videos will show something as there will be no point loading it up. One of the worst things about it too (which is something another commenter pointed out) is they've migrated onto all sorts of other professions to so even people who didn't sign up to jobs expecting a level of harassment are now having to put up with it too and these people are even less likely to know the laws of the land so will be more intimidated by the auditors
