Thanks Joe, for this - I think we’ve reached peak resolution. I sat at BB Magnolia all day yesterday staring at the 8K display next to the C9 and honestly barely noticed the difference at 8 - 9 feet away, my typical distance for 77” - 85” watching. On the larger 8K display, the increased resolution was not as apparent until I was sitting 6 feet away - and there’s no way I’m sitting that close to a large TV in a decent HT setup. However good HDR and contrast is very noticeable from even 12 feet away.

I agree. I have the iMac with the 5K display and although I can see the difference between 1080p and 4k, the difference isn't game changing. I think 720p to 1080p was much more significant and noticable.
@fomoontech8217
@fomoontech8217 5 жыл бұрын
@@joentell 1080p to 4K was literally a 4-fold increase, whereas 4K to 8K is only double the pixel density, and at already high levels of 4K resolution, our natural vision becomes the bottleneck as we cannot resolve the additional detail! Just like it's pointless to demand high frequency audio extension over 24Khz.

@@joentell 8K is going to have a harder time getting off the ground. I've seen the bigger panels up close and the viewing distance to really appreciate this is not happening for 99% of the market. 8K on a projector isn't even lifting my skirt. My older JVC 4K wanna-be projector is good enough on my 100" screen. And how many people are going to upgrade from UHD 4K films to UHD 8K films with zero content for the next 3-4 years. Keeping my LG OLED and JVC projector.

Hey Joe, I happened to stumble across your channel recently and i have to say you have me impressed. Although young I have been into audio many years due to the fact my father was. Your videos are professional, inoffensive, and straight up just lovely. I can tell you have a passion for audio and that just makes it so so much more enjoyable. I don't know how you afford your gear, whether it be from patron, or youtube revenue, or demos sent by companies, but I please urge you to somehow get your hands on a pair of Bryston Mini A speakers. They are the first speaker I ever bought new and all I have to say is wow..... You will be blown away I hope. For $1200 you wont be blown away from their fit and finish but the drivers are overbuilt, as well with the crossover. I've always been more of a fan of two way configurations but Bryston had me change. They even come with a 20 year warranty from arguably one of the best pro enthusiast power amp companies out there. Great videos and I hope you take my suggestion into consideration :)

Great video!! I'm trying to choose between Benq projectors and this vid really helps. That HT2050 is a beast IMO.... It does well in just about every comparison I've seen... the only exception was when it was up against the HT3050.... Quick suggestion... it would be helpful to keep the image comparisons on the screen for longer periods of time... i'm not sure if there's a weight to display them in slow motion or something to really be able to look at them closely! I found myself rewinding and pausing a lot! Thanks!!

Yeah, I don't want to lose the lumens and the low input lag for gaming. But I'm at 140" and I do notice that 1080p content is not always sharp. Especially dark scenes with long shots. But Ideally, I want a laser projector with those 30,000 hours so I don't have to worry about bulb life.

They just updated the firmware and it fixed some of the bugs. The problems with the smart Eco mode had more to do with the interaction between my Nvidia Shield and this projector. The Shield doesn't seem to tone map non-HDR content properly.

Great video, very professional! I also have an HT2050 and HT3550. I still love the 2050 and I'm using it in my bedroom setup. My 3550 was one of the first production units from the "revised" batch and though I've experienced a couple hiccups, overall I'm very happy with it. The new firmware with adjustable iris settings is pretty cool! When you were testing it, did you have the wcg filter on or off? Also, did you prefer brilliant color on or off as well? Thanks!

Dude what great review. The footage was great! I have been watching a lot of reviews and have not seen such great comparison footage. Definitely liking this video! EDIT: This actually made me feel better about purchasing a HT2050 in the coming week. It is more budget friendly and I would like to play some games on it. Again great review! 4k isn't in the budget yet sadly.

I tend to agree. Given my usage, which is moving a projector outdoors a lot, showing in a light compromised room a lot, and toting to others' houses, in order: contrast, brightness, saturation, color accuracy/HDR, resolution. In a fixed, dark, dedicated HT room-- contrast, color accuracy/HDR, saturation, resolution, brightness. Either way, a very good 1080p like the 2050a is hard to beat, especially for twice the $.

"HDR is More Impressive than 4K" That's certainly true, when implemented correctly. I was part of a select group which was shown the first Dolby Vision demo at Dolby Labs, and that was jaw-dropping, to say the least; all the more so because it was conducted on a (then) one-of-a-kind hand-built 42" LCD which required two 20A lines, was water-cooled, and produced 2000 nits per pixel peak brightness, well in excess of the brightest consumer displays today. That panel was a 1080p display. "Better pixels, not more pixels" was the Dolby mantra. Probably why Pioneer Kuros from 10 years ago still look better or at least as good as most of the 4K TVs on the market today.
@joentell
@joentell 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think our eyes are better at determining realistic colors and contrast compared to how much detail something has. It's like when audiophiles are concerned with high-resolution audio, but they don't care whether their system can play from 20hz to 20khz. I think you'll be able to hear the difference in the second scenario way before you can hear a difference in the first.

Saw your review and scott’s. Got the 3550 from amazon last week to replace my 3050 that crapped out after 2 years. Unfortunately HDR mode is not working on my unit. Colors are washed out, whites are gray .. just looks like crap. I have been watching movies on conema mode which has a good image. I tried calling benq but noone answers calls. Their customer service is non existent. I am getting a replacement from amazon this week. Got my fingers crossed that it will be better. Unfortunately I am stuck with benq since i have to throw a 120inch image from 10.5 feet away and this is the only drop in replacement for that image size/distance requirement. Look at the 1 - 3 star reviews on amazon for this. All basically say the HDR function is useless.

Great review ! I like the quality of your video. I have a HT2050 and I’m very happy with it. I recently tried the HT3550 thinking the 4K and HDR will blow my mind…Finally I was disappoint by the small differences between the two. The HT3550 is a little sharper and the colors little more accurate but the HT2050 still looks great even when compare side by side. I returned the HT3550 to the store and I will keep my HT2050 until something more “wow” comes out.

The maker should not give a unit like that to a reviewer. Everything is up in the air and cannot guarantee anything. This like this should stay within the company. Bad decision on BenQ's part. For projectors, I rather go with the up front mirror reflect designs like LG makes. Shorter cable runs and don't have a motor sound above your head and blow hot air near the seats.
