I rarely review monopod, but I do use them from time to time, whenever I need a larger and heavier setup. They are useful not only for photography but for video, especially if you want to film for an extended period and want mobility at the same time. So Benro has come up with a new design for monopod users, is it worth it? #microfourthirds #olympus #Photography

I already own the Manfrotto monopod, but lately I rarely use it. Since you "made" me buying 3leggedthing tripod, I detach one of the legs and make a monopod out of that for when I go around the streets. However, the Albert2 is so high that I can carry the whole tripod anywhere I go. Thank you for your great reviews as ever.

The weather sealing is a bonus on its own. Thanks for reviewing such product

Indeed, not many monopods out there are actually weather sealed!
@Battlem0nk

@@Red35Photography is the weather sealing what makes it more difficult to twist to lock/unlock? My MSD46C is much harder to twist than other carbon legs i've used.
@Red35Photography
@Red35Photography Жыл бұрын
@@Battlem0nk It shouldn't be, I would try some lubricant first, just to see if it helps a little. It doesn't no harm to the lock as it does need lubricating every few years anyway.
@Battlem0nk
@Battlem0nk Жыл бұрын
@@Red35Photography Took the twist lock apart. Actually threads smoothly, but once it hits the rubber o-ring it is tight to fully lock. Maybe this is normal and I need to break it in first since it is brand new. Do you suggest putting lube on the weather sealing rubber o-ring?

Have had mine for only a short time but am very impressed with the quality of materials and workmanship. The options available to you through its innovative features and included accessories certainly adds value. And I'm 5'8" so it just about right sized for me. However, once in a while I do wish it offered more height.

I have the MSDPL46C monopod paired with Benro's GH2 gimbal head. It is an excellent combo for birding, sports, and motorsport photography. I can't believe I didn't order it sooner.

Nice review. Considering this as a motorsport monopod. I am however 6’. Is it really gonna be that much pain it isn’t taller? I have back problems. But I really don’t want to miss out on the features this one has over the taller one.

This appears to be the ultimate monopod, at first I simply thought it was a pod with a integrated tilt head but you demonstrated that it is a ball head. I use a ball head on a monopod with the clamps untightened to get ultra smooth panning for motorsport, I can maintain the camera level in all directions whilst panning over a 110 degree arc, whilst the monopod is tilted from leaning over from the right to the left or vice versa and the foot also rotates when panning, The height is the only problem my current monopod is 1850mm high useful for when you are standing on a hill, It's 100 grams lighter than my carbon monopod with a ball head fitted. I think I will be very interested in one of these.
@Red35Photography
@Red35Photography 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Michael! Yes the integrated head is what really makes this monopod different to others I've used/tested before. The panning action is very smooth, almost like a fluid head, on top of that, the ball bearing feet helps to smooth things further so if you are panning for motorsport, this is really amazing. Yes, my concern was height also, but it works for me.

Can the levelling head be removed from the monopod and used on a tripod? Is the clamp affixed to the levelling head or can it be removed and installed on the monopod without the levelling head?

Nice review Jimmy. Looks interesting possibility for heavier cameras and lenses. My new 150-400mm together with EM1X is on the heavier side and holding steady on the image at 500mm is not so easy. Do you think this Benro monopod would be able to handle this setup ??
@Red35Photography
@Red35Photography 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, this thing can handle 32kg! EM1X and 150-400 together is no where near the capacity. Another thing I didn't mention is that this monopod is waterproof too! So all the joints are sealed, not many monopods on the market is sealed.

Currently looking for a monopod for birding and wildlife. Does the IBIS and lens IS work when on a monopod ? I shoot stills and video of animals with EM1X 300mm F4 and 40-150mm F2.8. Oops i see this monopod is too short for me anyway.

It really is a great product and just right for my height. I agree, that for taller people, it may present a problem, though, they do have longer ones in the range but without this cool panning head that makes it special.

@@carolarchdale5625 I know the 150-400 is 'portable' for what it is, but it's still a heavy lens nonetheless, a monopod will help in many situations especially shooting wildlife :) I two other monopods at home, older simpler versions of this one but I do like the versatility this one give me, especially that panning head :)

You will have to forgive me, and I'm not knocking the product but what possible use is a levelling head on a monopod?, on a tripod yes because of uneven ground, maybe I'm missing something but I just don't get it sorry.

Hey Tony, no need to apologise, I mentioned the same thing in the review, saying that Benro may have over done themselves in designing this monopod. You are absolutely bang on. I said that it's more relevant for a tripod which is stationary support while monopod isn't.

Had to replace my Manfrotto monopod before a trip and got the Benro MSD46C over the Feisol. Big mistake. This is the WORST monopod I have purchased. Even when the sections are rotated to open I have to physically yank each section as they are uneven and have way too much friction. The idea was good the execution is horrible. AVOID. I wish I got the Feisol or even cheaper Sirui. No problem with extending the sections.

Monopod is not tripod so you actually use it for movement, or more like a 'controlled' movements, that's why sports and wildlife photographers love to use them, especially they use heavy long lenses.

No, no, no; you don't want a carbon monopod, Jimmy. You need a Gandalf wizard's staff. BTW, if you're using a monopod, you need to spread your legs and lean into the monopod leg, so your legs + the monopod form a highly stable tripod instead of just balancing the camera on the unstatable single leg of the monopod.
