I have been struggling with which monopod to buy for about a week. I have compared all models on Amazon and still couldn't decide. Then I saw your review on Amazon on the Benro v. Manfrotto. That review referred me to You Tube. Based on both reviews I bit the bullet today and ordered the Benro. Thank you so much, for your advice.

Wrong answer. I had Siuri and it's great but cost 820pln ONLY monopod. I buy Benro for 750pln with realy nice fluid head! Monopod seams work the same for me, it stands no problem. Work very similar to Siuri and it's lighter. So I sold Siuri and dnow have great monopod with nice head witch I used on slider too. Also buty tripod with the same head (S4) and this team work perfect on weedings.

I've been looking for a monopod like this and this video helped me make my decision as I've been flipping back and forth between the Benro and Manfrotto. I have plenty of Manfrotto products but ever since I picked up a Induro gimbal head and tripod (Induro being the same company as Benro) I'm going with this Benro fluid monopod! Thanks for the video and keep up the great work!

Thank you Max Yuryev, I did see both monopods at a local camera store and the Benro sold for $200.00 hundred which is $50.00 dollars more than Amazon. Also I wanted some feed back which you did on this video and now I know which one to get which obviously is the Benro, for the price and usability. Appreciate your input.

Max Yuryev I've used both and the manfrotto feels stronger. I shoot a lot in rougher terrains and very contrasting conditions and I feel like the Manfrotto can take a harder beating when it comes to travelling and run & gunning. However I should use the Benro more to give a more accurate justification.

I am agree with you Max. Is better than manfrotto. But I have just a litlle problem: is not fair to compare a manfrotto with a "handicap" and a Benro plastic quick release, and also a new iMac with an old Mac Pro with "handicap" ....because a product with "handicap" is always weaker. Handicap is for me something like a car with just 2 doors, it can,t be like a car with 4 doors, especially when you have kids! :) I dont want to be mad, but my philosophy is like this : cheap things are cheap, expensive ones, well here are 2 options: they could be good or they could be a fake (cheap product somethimes are sell at high price) ....BUT a cheap is always cheap... thanks for video
@sandmanmoy9406

hellow, i think the manfrotto one can be purchased with a better video fluid head, so you can actually do the pan movements with the head and no with the monopode pole.

great comparison! The only reason I'd consider the Manfrotto over the Benro is switching between tripod and monopod easily as I already have a tripod with that head on it. I'm wondering if the base plate of the Benro is interchangeable with the Manfrotto ones, is it?
@MaksimYuryev

I was lucky enough to go to NAB this year, and I tried this monopod at the Benro booth. The fluid video head is incredible. Great build overall. Going to be using this for weddings soon as well! Definitely helpful - saw your review on Amazon. How did it hold up on your wedding shoot? Would love to see some sample clips. Also, what does the Benro bag look like? Anything special about it or just a bag? Thanks Max!
@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 10 жыл бұрын
I totally forgot to mention the bag, as you know the Benro comes with one but the Manfrotto does not. The benro did fantastic on the wedding, a lot of other things didnt go well ( out of my control ). I have a couple videos to edit before the wedding, but It will be up on my website MaxYuryev.com and will most likely post here. The Bag is a simple one, black with a silver stripe around edges and a Benro badge. It has a shoulder strap and padded inside. The bag is very good quality compared to most other bags I've gotten with camera gear. I'm not sure how good the Manfrotto bags are but I'm guessing similar quality but you have to pay an extra $60-100 for them...

Well I do share your issue(s) with on-camera performance. I have a "face for radio" myself and just cut a video for a Kickstarter project. In any regard when I do such things I print out a/the script in big "point" font and then use spray glue to secure it to cardboard (called a "tilt board") which I then hang under the lens. I do have a TelePrompter but It's not always worth the trouble to hook it up then have to dig up someone to run it. Best wishes for your future production(s). The Elf Drums 2013 (optimized)

Max Yuryev My goal Max was whether the engineering of the monopods would let me use one for general assignment work with a new (and small) 2-camera EFP package I'm rolling out. Obviously the implication of a fluid head on the things imply that it will operate for such application. From your review (though you don't really demonstrate it) I would gather that these are just more of the same and really are unsuitable being just barely self-standing let alone for extensive video production.
@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 10 жыл бұрын
Riki B. Eyestarone The Monopods will stand by themselves if they are not bumped or shaken ( if you don't exceed the weight limit ) but if you need something that you can let go and not watch or worry about then you need a tripod. These are great if you need to be stable but easily mobile at the same time.

Max Yuryev Actually with my experience I felt Lester had a really different attitude that was lost when his daughter inherited Bogen et al. Now I think that the stuff is over priced, heavy and "clunky" compared to many of the products offered by others. I have a number of the Benro products which seem a bit "sharper" but not as solid if mistreated.

Great video, thanks! So, I'm a graphic designer and just starting out with some photography and videography, and content for Vimeo and my wife's YT channel. To stay within a reasonable budget, and after a ton of research, I'm looking at picking up a Panasonic GH3 with an Oly 75 and a Pana-Leica 25. I think it will be a nice compact solution and provide some good results. The last piece is the stabilization, and I've been looking for a good tripod solution. When I found the Benro S8 kit I was blown away by the sample footage and the price. I was thinking I might get a monopod down the line, and probably another Benro, but that I should have something a little more substantial to start out that will last for a good while. Would you recommend a monopod over a tripod? I will be shooting some slow pans, some close-ups, and documentary-style portraits and interviews. Thanks in advance.
@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 9 жыл бұрын
Jermaine Walker A monopod is great if you need to be mobile and change positions fast (like at live events or documentary work) but if your doing something scripted that you have control over, tripod all the way.

Thanks Max for the informative video review. I, too am contemplating which monopod to get & after seeing your great review, I'm leaning toward Benro. However, after checking the review in Amazon, I'm surprised there are quite a number of negative reviews i.e. the weakest part is the ball head & get broken easily. Now that you have used the Benro for over a year, how is the quality? Any unfortunate incident? Thanks.

I just got mine based on your review, but the one I got A48FDS6 is not like the one you show in the video, I think they have changed it since mine does not come with a blue cartridge at the end of the monopod, it only has a small red ring that makes the monopod angle or not. but if I pan from the bottom what it does is start unscrewing the legs from the pole. (maybe the have change them?)

What is up with the gun behind the computer? OK a real question. How good/useful are these monopods if you shoot primarily stills with a regular 18-140 kit lens? Thanks for the awesome review.
@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 10 жыл бұрын
I would say they are not too useful. For stills a tripod would be more helpful if you want to take slow shutter speed shots. I guess it will be ok if you want to go down to maybe a second shutter speed and you need to move fast so a tripod would weigh you down... But I would try to get a lightweight tripod anyways.

I still have one last question for which I can't seem to find an answer for: have you tried to do some walking or any movement without the monopod on the ground just held with your hands ? I've done it a couple times when trying to move during a wedding. Are you trying to get smoother footage that way? Kind of using it as a glidecam? I do think it will help a bit but not sure if better than a tripod as a tripod does have 3 legs putting weight in different directions.

I went to the photo store today and put two Benros (two different models) next to a Manfrotto and compared a bunch of different features and the Manfrotto Monopod was by far the better one on almost everything. -- Manfrotto is made in Italy while the Benro in China, so right away you can see (feel) the difference in the way its manufactured. The Manfrotto extends much higher than the Benros and it felt much more sturdy. Another thing I noticed with the Benros is that even when you clamp the extensions, you can push down on the monopod and the thing colapses. I thought that this could be just a defect on the floor models but the store clerk told me that they tend to do that. That's lame! - I ended up getting the Manfrotto for U$ 249. The Benros were priced at $249 and $199.

It extends very high! Just checked it for you. I'm 6 feet tall and completely extended the top plate is same height as me, so with your camera on it it will be even higher where your lens is. So perfect to record up to 7 foot tall people, or shoot above peoples heads in crowded areas. I bought the Manfrotto monopod and love it.. except that the fluid video head doesn't have a panning! I want a video head that will be useful off of the monopod. So I plan on returning it and getting the Benro. Is there any difference in the quality of the two heads?

Manfrotto sucks. It's very expensive and not stand steady. Had Siuri but sold and buy Benro with S4 fluid head. Monopod works the same for me. Siuri monopod is more expensive than Benr WITH FLUID HEAD.

Can the Benro monopod stand up on its own? (I of course realise it won't be totally stable compared to a tripod!)
@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 10 жыл бұрын
Yes! I do this all the time at weddings but I try not to leave it by itself or if I do not for long as someone can come by and bump it. You have an adjustment for tightness and can get it as tight as you would like :) For toasts and ceremony's at weddings I set it up and stand next to it, It's nice not having to hold it and also nice that if I need to move I can do it quickly unlike a tripod.

Actually Max I wound up getting a Benro tripod with the S6 head. However I am wondering why your review also failed to address the sand, dust and water tightness of the piece(s). I don't want to but I can go into all the situations where this is an important factor in the use of a tripod and even more so in a monopod. You need to get a bunch more experience or talk to professionals BEFORE doing a review that is incomplete. It's not that I am a hater but hate someone that only does a very small part of a job and really appears to be doing a poor comercial as opposed to a REAL review. Good luck.

Max Yuryev Well then, compare the seals in both for use in water, sand and other natural environments that one might shoot in among other features that a professional might find of interest or under conditions that one might use the products in. Hell if they are a wedding "guy" then having things spilled on the pods is quite valid.
@MaksimYuryev

Riki B. Eyestarone Do you really put your gear through water, sand, ect? I have shot 50 weddings (photography) and have never had anything spilled on myself or my gear, or submerged my gear into water, or had it go through sand. Any "water" that may have touched my gear is maybe light rain and that shouldn't have any issue with most gear if its decent quality. Also I am not a large company or a KZfaq person that does videos to try to make a living off of it and can buy stuff just to torture test it, I just make videos that I think might help someone. So far a lot of people seem happy with what I have put out but I can't please everyone like in your case I can't provide you with what you want out of me or others. I really hope there is a channel that will give you what you desire to receive! God Bless you!

Riki B. Eyestarone Also the reason why I made this video is because there are a TON of good videos on the manfrotto, a little bit of videos on the benro, but none (that I found) about the difference between them. So I wanted to help fill that gap and hopefully make someone's choice a little easier. =)

Hello Max mi name is seb and iam french Guy. I wanna start à new Job "wedding filmaker" and buy à monopod but which one. First i would buy manfrotto but the fluid head is a problem because its not pan.. If i wanna use it for a slider or with a tripod its a problem because we can't pan.. With the Benro i can remove the fluid head for use my tripod or slider?Do you think the benro is beefy with 5d mark 3 and 70-200? Think you very much.

Hi Seb! Sounds like you are doing similar to me! The head does remove and I think it will work well for that! If your going to put a lot of weight on it I would use the s6 head as it can handle the weight, it cost only a little bit more amzn.to/1kN6Yis

Any thoughts on the different heads for the Benroe? a2, a4, a6, a8 ? They each support slightly more weight beginning with 4 pounds. Im thinking of getting the cheapest version a2, which should be able to support a 5d mark iii and 24-70mm lens with some additional room for pressure? also which head do you have?
@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 9 жыл бұрын
I have the H4 but I would probably go with H6 and I have a much lighter setup then your 5d3 with 24-70, probably half the weight. The max weight is always overrated, you won't be getting smooth results with the h2. You should definitely go with H6 a can guarantee if you want smooth pans and tilts with that camera/lens combo you won't get good results. The H2 is made for small point and shoot cameras and other lightweight cameras like that. I have friends that shoot with 5d3 and pro zooms. For their 5d3+70-200 they use a H8 tripod. Also keep in mind that the better the head the smoother the pans tilts are and with more adjustability. (for the benro lineup)

Giraffe0530 If your goal is to be able to hold the camera more steady so you can slow down your shutter speed It would help yes, but I would recommend a cheaper one as you won't need the video head on this one. amzn.to/1cLFQnw Now if you want to set the camera down and leave suggest using a lightweight tripod instead, like this one: amzn.to/1JFgcQ0

@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Phillipe, Its really up to you what message you want to take. I'm not sure if your from the US or not but here we have the second amendment which is right to bear arms. We are legally allowed to have firearms and protect ourselves and ones we love if we are in life threatening situations, and also from the government if it is not serving the people properly anymore. Mostly everyone is able to make a choice if they want to own a firearm, and if they don't that's fine! And also that is a airsoft shotgun that shoots plastic pellets (its a toy) that I purchased for a short film I made.
