We Argue Too Much | Therapy Thursday | Issac Curry Communication is to the relationship what blood is to the body. What did you understand based on what was communicated to you? Whenever there is clear communication, you can do anything. The devil loves for you to be in an atmosphere or climate where you don’t understand the other person. Relationships have failed because some haven’t mastered effective communication. 1. You’re not as good as a communicator as you think you are. Arguments were never meant to be won; they were meant to be understood. Our greatest issue is we are trying to win the argument but lose the person. The greatest goal should be to understand. You can be right and still wrong. Communication isn’t just sending the message but assuring the receiver receives what was sent. We’re not as concerned on what will be received but more on sending it. What did you hear me say? The very foundation of communication is language. It’s only effective if both the receiver & sender comprehend the message. A man is facts based off of logic. A woman native language is intuition, emotions & feelings. He speaks his logic. She interprets through her heart. He’s speaking through his head, she’s speaking through her heart. You have to learn to become bilingual. Learn how to speak in the other person’s language. 2. Your filter is faulty. You experienced trauma or hurt. You haven’t healed. You’re wounded. Your trauma or experience has shaped your ears. Now that your ears have been shaped, all you hear is offense. You’re going to hear dishonesty, gossip, etc. 3. You weren’t taught how to disagree well. We replicate the patterns learned from our parents. It is learned behavior. Some fight or cuss when they disagree. Some haven’t seen people disagree and not still talk, gossip, etc. Dysfunction is always needing a yes or no because you disagreed. You might’ve been taught when you disagree to be mad around the house, avoid the person, etc. Some people let you have your way because if you don’t, you pout, you stomp, or you cry. It’s okay to disagree. It’s good for your soul. Learn to receive the feedback well. We can hurt each other’s feelings and still speak how we feel or what’s on our heart. You can’t go to sleep and act like nothing never happened. Just because you don’t talk about it doesn’t mean it is resolved. 4. You’re not a great listener. Listening is a life skill. It needs to be developed. It has been ingrained in our psyche to speak and get our point across by any means necessary. Speak until you are heard. Jesus asked probing questions. He listened for the answers. Then based upon the answers, healings or blessings were a byproduct. He listened intently. He listened to what we had to say. We are taught when we enter into a conversation or disagreement, to choose to listen or understand first almost feels like I am losing. Be swift to hear, and slow to speak. Listen defensively, selectively, when we feel like it. Then when we’re done being a terrible listener, we want that same person to hear everything we have to say. Wow. In order to grow spiritually, we have to become a better listener. Work on listening in the natural in order to excel in the spirit. 5. You’re unaware or don’t understand your argument style or of you. It helps to understand how we are perceived. -The Competitor Points out the flaws in the other person. They like to argue. Relationships are a school board and they are always trying to perfect the other person but don’t hold themselves accountable. -The Dominator Usually takes charge in the conversation. If you’re not careful, they will speak to the point where the other person can’t catch up. The one who is owning or controlling the conversation. -The Avoider They pretends they he or she is cool and doesn’t have a problem. They suppress what they are feeling. They want to keep the peace. So they never share what’s on their heart. They do this until they bubble up and explode because they are avoiding the way they feel. -The Accommodator People pleaser. They want to accommodate the other person, they don’t like conflict, they don’t want the other person to be upset, they don’t like to argue. They will say yes, apologize, do whatever they have to do because they don’t want abandonment. -The Offender No matter what happens, they feel it as an attack. They have a comeback for everything that was said. Defensive, hard to be held accountable. -The Stone Waller They will shut down and withdraw. They will give you the silent treatment. -The Collaborator They consider the entire situation and the feelings of the other person. They move in empathy; they seek to understand before they seek to be understood. This is the goal. Where there is knowledge is obedience. Inability to release control, lack of self awareness, trauma that experienced and encountered is why you argue so much.

God is seriously showing out on me this week😊 His always on time😍. Had a miscommunication situation last week, and it's been just over a week of no phone conversations which is really foreign to myself and the person involved, but not due to an argument, but miscommunication😕. I've prayed on it, and asked God for clarity and exactly a week to the day....this message✅💡✔. Glory to the King😍 To say I'm forever grateful is an understatement. I thank God for your ministry brother Isaac, and this platform Mr and Mrs Flowers...and pray God continue to use you as his a beacon to guide the nation💞. This word has given me clarity even as an Empath, and I feel I have just packed another weapon in my Arsenal that I can use for his Glory. Blessings and Love xx From the UK.

That's good. What did you hear me say? I can generally grasp what people actually heard, based off of how they responded. Some people just want to be right all of the time, and get consumed with how they are going to respond to you, or just going to hear what they want to hear anyway. Because many of us are very stubborn and self centered. I used to be the same way, in a sense. When God was speaking to me, that's why I missed a LOT of things He was trying to tell me and show me. We must choose to keep it real.

@Cynthia. I was thinking the exact same thing. When going to couples therapy with my ex husband due to me finding out about some of his I infidelity, the therapist gave us this same I information about why communication has broken down in our relationship. All of the argument styles my ex exuded in every single conversation we had. He would pull out of different style to get me get off balanced bc I would not understanding how his approach was so different from one minute to the next or from 1 day to another. He was randomly bring up the trauma from his childhood when I made valid points about how his behaviors were hurting me and then destroying me. He would keep blaming me saying I'm hurting him by constant bringing up what he did wrong but we would never finish a conversation with true healing and understanding. Most times he would storm out or grit his teeth, glare and then avoid my eyes, go completely silent, and say fine I'm doing what you want since you hold all the cards. Rarely he would listen and say I understanding and am sorry for my actions. When this happened sex would follow and I would assume I was safe and could trust it wouldn't happen again but it always would if I asked or tried to talk about anything concerns the health of our marriage or our finances.

Yes the Holy Spirit told me a little while ago people need to stop trying to be right all of the time. It's ABSOLUTELY not about that. That's why when I realize someone is choosing to NOT listen to me to understand but to argue. I just generally get quiet. Because there is no reason to argue with a fool. You just have to learn when to walk away from some people and situations. Because you can't really change how people choose to respond or perceive things. Not trying to take away from the message whatsoever. Just what I have learned away in regards to the subject matter.
