hornady precision hunter ammo was inconsistent velocities the velocity spread was over 50 fps in my rifle. the Nosler Trophy grade Ammo shot amazing in my rifle. bullets are expensive, had some good results with handloads using barnes match burners as well. nice review

@willl 88 well i know that he only add rem 700 to line they got( apex and b13)and custom word ,,or in short "expensive" custom b14 precision rifles and usa fab (well import shop) ,rest is b13 and apex line where he did not have a thing ,but he make 2 nice rifle lines on rem 700 base kudos to that

I believe Ed Shilen from Brownels family is just one part of success - very important part , bud have to add using action, old quality marksmanship, and very good marketing is behind of popularity on this market ! I have feeling for Bergara manufacturing is proud of trade and satisfied customers same important as profit (maybe even more important). If same attitude was keeping Remington - we would still enjoy that kind today

Great vid review. I recently got this exact rifle as my first long range shooter. Some advice for other noobs like me. Follow mfr instructions for break in. Not sure if it was me or the cheap ammo I was using but my groups were not as advertised by Bergara until after break in was complete. After break in I was getting 0.56” groups at 100 yards with match ammo an even sub MOA with the cheap stuff. Best groups were with Federal Premium Sierra Match King with Hornady ELDM 140 gr. A close 2nd. Did not seem to like VORTX but, again, it could have been the shooter. If you’re thinking about buying this Gun, go for it! You won’t be disappointed.

You added an annotation towards the end saying the scope was an HST and not a PST. If I am not mistaken, the HST does not have an illuminated reticle, which your scope does as evidenced by the turret near the ocular lens. I believe it is in fact a PST.

@camonly849
@camonly849 5 жыл бұрын
Bergara is definitely a better deal to me. My 700 cost 760. The bergara is 950. However, you get a mich much better stock. Super stiff and true free float. Trigger is good. And bergara is known for barrels. You will get a good barrel. 700, you'll need to upgrade all of those at least and the trigger to get a decent rifle. So why not just buy one already made good.

@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 6 жыл бұрын
At the time of shooting this video I had already fired approximately 200 rounds through this rifle. In my experience that is enough to "settle" a barrel. I also think, based on that 3/8" group from my handloads, that this thing is shooting as good as it ever will.

Is that a factory trigger and did you break the barrel in and if so can you give a rough description of your break in. I have been breaking some in and just running a bore snake through others out of the box and go to shooting. Don’t know if I can tell a lot of difference. Just curious your thoughts. I just bought this rifle and about to go shoot it now
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 6 жыл бұрын
It is the factory trigger. A lot of folks swear by a certain break in procedure. I don't really buy into all that stuff. At any rate, here's what I do. I will take a brand new rifle out and run 20 rounds through it. I will then clean the barrel and that's it. After that I shoot like normal. However I don't really trust a barrel completely until I have approximately 200 rounds down the tube. At that point I can be relatively certain that it's shooting consistently. And I leave my barrels dirty until the accuracy starts to suffer. Just fyi. Thanks for the comment.
@halfdollar86
@halfdollar86 6 жыл бұрын
Precision Rifle Network. I cleaned the HMR with Hoppes and Chased it with kroil to finish. Then I shot it today no cleaning between shots. Really pleased with the accuracy so far. I find that my accuracy gets better when the barrel is “fouled” some. Maybe it’s copper build up, maybe it’s me learning each rifle better. Couldn’t really tell you, I just know it gets better.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 6 жыл бұрын

Bergara says to clean it before shooting, clean after each of the first 5 shots, then after each 10 up to 50, then clean often afterwords. Bergara also says to clean in 1 direction only, namely from the receiver forward.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 6 жыл бұрын
I would definitely agree with cleaning in one direction only. And I also agree that you should throughly clean a new barrel prior to shooting it for the first time. I used to use the method they recommend, but have found it to be unnecessary. Each to their own I guess. I really don't think any one certain method is going to ruin a barrel, so it comes down to personal preference.

Quick question I’ve been looking at this rifle but as far as a can find it only comes in 22” barrel for the 6.5 and 24” for the .308. You state it is a 6.5 gun at the beginning then say barrel is 24” on the stats sheet towards the end? Did you find a oddball or just a simple mistake on the barrel length? I’d just like to know so I can stop trying to find a 24” 6.5

sorry for the delay. Yeah I guess I'm not sure. I didn't know it was exclusive to Bass Pro until another viewer questioned me about the barrel length before you did. All I knew was that mine measured 24". A second guy chimed in and said it was a special thing with Bass Pro. Guess that's all I know. In answer to your question, I think you will be fine with a 22" barrel. You'll sacrifice a little velocity, but the accuracy inside 1000y will be basically the same.

Josh Marklowitz my question would be, why don’t you want to use brakes or suppressors? They help improve your accuracy in most cases. Make the gun easier to shoot.

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork i guess that makes sense. I just never have. I dont know the logistics in getting approved to use a silencer in Colorado. If the firearm came with a brake I would expect to see it in the review. I mean, they dont put a super charger on every car before they do a review but it would make it perform better. I guess I would just like to know how it performs out of the box. To each their own. But keep up the good work! I appreciate that people take time to make videos. Thank you.

Sir I'm looking hard at this rifle in 308 since it's cheap and I have plenty!! My question is with it only having a 20 inch barrel is that a deal breaker for doing some small competition say out to 800 yards? It would be a general hunting/ have fun bench gun!!! I've shot 3 gun and other things just want get my feet wet on entry long range!!!
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 6 жыл бұрын
It's not a deal breaker, just understand that you'll be fighting the wind a lot more than if you had a 6.5 or 6mm cartridge. .308 is still a fine cartridge. There are simply just more efficient ones out there. Just shoot a match, you won't regret it.

What's your budget? In the "under $1000" range I would say the Nikon Black FX1000 or maybe something from Primary Arms. For $1000 I would go with the Vortex Viper PST Gen2. For just under or right at $2000 I would choose the Leupold Mark 5. For $2500 I would choose the Vortex Razor HD Gen2. For around $3000 I would choose a Nightforce ATACR or a Kahles 5-25. In my opinion, there's no need to go above that.

Unfortunately I do not own that Rem700 in .308 - I only have it in .223 I can offer a somewhat experienced opinion though. Trying to compare a bone stock rem700 especially in .308 to a Bergara 6.5 creedmoor doesn't really make sense. The Bergara barrel is better right out of the factory. The trigger is better. The mini chassis in the stock is better. Thanks for the comment.

I realize I made the Remington 700 .308 sound bad before. That was not my intent. It's a great gun. Especially if you're looking for a good all around, do everything rifle. It works well for that, but would not be the best choice for competitions. The Bergara would be better for the beginning competitor, but it's also very comfortable as a hunting gun.

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork just getting into reloading and waiting for this rifle to ship to FFL.. Whats the deal people saying reloading is not ideal for this rifle for mag length???
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 4 жыл бұрын
@@kirkwest6654 I'm not sure what people are referring to exactly, but it could be a couple things. 1. If you load your rounds to full mag length, there could be issues with the nose of the bullets jamming on the edge of the feed ramp causing a failure to feed malfunction. 2. Many factory rifles are designed with more "jump" so that they will shoot well with a myriad of bullets. If you load too long, you reduce jump. Studies are showing now that a longer jump may be beneficial.

@@kirkwest6654 That's honestly a tough choice. Both are nice rifles. I might choose the Bergara simply because the action is a Rem700 pattern and I could put that in a new stock or chassis depending on what I wanted to do with it. You could just keep running the FN, but depending on what you want to do, you may consider re-barreling to a 6.5 variant for better ballistics. Tough choice.
