Bering Sea Gold Dredge Needs Major Repairs

Alaska's Bering Sea is still frozen as far as the eye can see. That means we still have some time before we have to get the dredge on the water and dive for gold.
It's a good thing, because we have a lot of projects to complete after finishing a complete rebuild of the Eroica's hull. Since the new pontoons are lifting the deck two feet higher out of the water, we have to rebuild the mounts for the outboards and deal with some unintended consequences to our dredge suction system.
But we don't want the sea ice to linger. If the historically cold spring delays the mining season too long we might miss the best part of the season - and our diver David, who's only here for a short time, could leave Nome empty-handed.

I like this so much better than the Discovery version. This seems much more realistic. Truthfully, I was never impressed with your role on Discovery. Just my personal perception. After watching your youtube, I have much more respect and it shows how any footage can be cut to show a narrative. I look forward to the next episode. Thanks.

Thanks so much JuneBugJoe! It’s comments like these that keep us going. The problem with the ice is that it moves! You’ll see in the next few episodes just how much. Even if someone could break up that much sea ice, which would take ridiculous amounts of energy, it all blows back in with a nice south breeze or the wrong current. Best just to wait!

Wonderful seeing a New Video from you Emily! Sadly, I didn't have time to watch the video about you being out of Being Sea Gold. You were a main part many people watched the show! Before it started, I was a fan of Gold Rush (not a parker fan, Tony is HARSH but at least has some personality heh). I never per sued Gold Hunting, can't say I'm not EXTREMELY TEMPTED! Living in California and all. Panned a few times in the Serria Nevada, tell you one thing this area is not only GREAT for Gold Hunting it's also a Fisherman's (woman's) Dream! All the best with getting the "Eroica" running top shape Emily! Ummm what do you think of a second boat named "Heroica"? P.S. since you're father seems to cool, "Shout out" too him as well please! I love the history of gold in the Sierra Nevadas - the big gold rush at Sutter's Mill doesn't get enough credit for its impact on the US - it was the biggest population migration event in US history! I'd love to get down there some time. Love the Heroica name! Don't love the idea of running two dredges right now haha! I'll give Steve a shoutout for you. Feel like saying "OMG Emily responded back to us!" But I shall reframe. Heh. Umm I need to look up Sutter's Mill. I did know about the large migration once gold was detected/reported in Coloma California (about 45 minutes from where we live) by I think was James Marshall back in 1848. Think back then San Fransico had another name. Named San Fran after the gold started being transferred there from Stockton California, along the Delta into the San Fran Bay. (you'd probably know more on the topic than myself). Yeah think California was deemed one of the top 5 largest Gold Deposits in the world. Thanks Emily for mentioning it to Steve. Needless to say the uncommon times he was in the show I looked forward to it. You as well of course. As for Zeke... well if I anything I think he was a WORK HORSE. So it seemed on the show. @@TheEmilyRiedelI mean daily vlogs with a weekly cap off of events. Just strap a GoPro to everyone and send it to an editor that you can find pretty easily. If they didn't record this season of BSG I'm gonna have to have you do this or move to Nome but I'm from fla and have never worn anything other than flip flops.

Daily is way too much work for our team right now! Even with an editor it's a logistical nightmare in Nome. Slow internet, little space, and we still have to run a successful mining operation which takes priority over uploading. Love the idea of some crew shows here and there, though, and maybe a podcast element later!
