I visited in 1987. I was a guest at a drama festival in Kreuzberg. President Reagan did his famous 'Mr Gorbachev tear down this wall.' I found a copy of the speech near the spot in the dirt. I still have it.

This is gut! My husband and I shared this with my 10 year son who is named after his 2x great grandfather whose printing press and offices were taken over by the Nazis (printed propaganda). Bruno and his wife Alice have the bronze memorial bricks where they were picked up from their home and killed in Auschwitz. My husband's opa (their son) was able to escape to Palestine, then Queens NY. He returned in 1989 and grabbed a piece of the wall.

Hey Tom! Once again, great job. It's amazing how many facts your brain can store haha. Honestly, it's quite impressive how educated you are. Berlin is a huge city and all the neighbourhoods have a very different atmosphere and style, so it's pretty cool that you gave us some impressions from different parts of the city. Good job! I'm really impressed with this video, especially considering that you are a New Yorker and not a Berliner. Keep it up! :)

Is Lucie from Hamburg? I was 11 when the wall came down and distinctly remember my 6th grade teacher trying to impress upon us just how significant a historic event it was. Obviously as an adult and someone who loves history now I can appreciate the magnitude of these things, but back then the nightly news was just boring crap my dad watched while I impatiently waited for Alf to start. I love Germany so much. I've been there a few times but never made it to Berlin. We were always in the southern part of the country, in and around Munich, and all throughout Austria. Another great adventure, Tom! (It's crazy how much your hair grew on the flight from Berlin back to JFK.)

Napoleon at 5’5” was just an inch or so below the period’s average adult male height. British cartoonist James Gillray (1756-1815). caricatural depictions of the French general were so popular and influential that at the end of his life Napoleon said that Gillray “did more than all the armies of Europe to bring me down.”

Hi Tom: Really great Berlin walk video. I love Berlin and have been there twice - once before the wall came down and once after. It is a spectacular city - especially for the arts and its history. The first time I was there we drove from West Germany. My friends were living in Kreuzberg and we arrived very late. When I woke up the next morning and looked out of the bedroom window the wall was right there in the garden. Needless to say I was somewhat astonished. I went back many years later for a month and had a wonderful time roaming around, meeting people etc. , seeing pubs and clubs, museums just everything. I hope youhad enough time on your trip to do the same - it is an unforgettable city. D

The Hasir restaurant allegedly invented the German Döner (Kebab) that today is the most popular fast food in Germany. Fun fact, there're more Döners sold every year in Germany than all hamburgers from all McDonalds and Burger Kings in Germany combined.

In 1962 we were stationed in Paris with SHAPE (Strategic Headquarters of the Allied Powers of Europe) Headquarters in support of NATO. My mom was in charge of AYA (American Youth Activities). They took a tour of Berlin. The girls distracted American soldier's attention and the boys chiseled out some bricks out of the wall. She got fired. We had to leave Paris. And I think that event accelerated some of the strangenesses of my life. There had already been odd things going on. Just added to the potpourri. It's been weird. Still going on.
