How to Sail Oceans

How to Sail Oceans

Күн бұрын

I will hunker down in Hadleys Harbor while another screamin' nor' easter blows through New England. Then it's on to Vineyard Haven for provisions and water. I discover that I have ice in my jerry cans due to overnight temperatures dropping well below freezing. I review the weather maps as my departure time nears.

Extraordinary tales of your sailing adventures. Your determination to sail is enhanced by your lack of any viable mechanical alternative. I love how you call the motor (such as it is) Mr T! Always enjoy your videos. Sail well Sir!

A retiree in the Midwest that lives vicariously through your adventures. Your knowledge and planning are impressive. Dodged around the Great Lakes in earlier days in a 16' Wayfarer. Lovely boat. Always had the eye on a 32 Westsail until life got in the way. Fair winds!

Living on your cyber clock I am buckling up for the next one. Fair winds and following seas, with a sympathetic Gulf Stream! And fingers crossed for a philosopher episode on a sandbar in the future… no pressure I just loved that one.

The reason there is no solar panel on top of the hard dodger is that a flexible targeted alignment of the panel towards the sun makes charging much more efficient, so, no hard mount - right? This video is crystal clear, due to either updated camera or very clear weather. Thanks.

Correct, I am able to move them around to catch sun, or really, get them out of the shade of spars and sails.

Hi Kevin- a little off topic… I’ve been wondering for a while about topsails and associated rigging. I’ve completed my reading of Leather’s “The Gaff Rig handbook “ but he didn’t go into much detail about the mechanics of setting and trimming topsails. I know you used to have one and was hoping you might find the time to make a tutorial video. Thank you for continuing to share your knowledge.
@howtosailoceans1423
@howtosailoceans1423 5 ай бұрын
Yes I still have a topsail but do not have it rigged as it is quite a bit of hassle and the boat already does well in light airs, especially with the Code 0. You need a halyard, sheet, and a downhaul. Raise the topsail in the lee of the mainsail, then tension the downhaul. Then sheet it. The sheet has to go through a fairlead at the peak of the gaff and then another fairlead at the throat before leading down to the deck.

Time for some strong displeasure by the viewership on the T- Moble situation....unlimited I guess only means unlimited until they say so. That a hand written note is required stretches my sensibilities... How about Starlink? Wonderful as always Kevin, keeping it real.
