Bernard Hopkins talks about his rough upbringing in Philadelphia - surrounded by drugs and alcohol - and why he decided to steer his life towards violence and crime. This man survived the streets and came out of prison in his 20s and is net worth 45 million today. That's inspirational. One has to wonder when will the life of Bernard Hopkins, now honorary doctorate recipient, receive the Hollywood biopic treatment. ... His astonishing journey from street thug to inmate to world champion AND oldest world champion to promoter and now, honorary PhD is one of the finest testaments to the power of the human mind and spirit.

never underestimate the power of discipline, motivation and high inner drive in a hungry individual... that's the concoction legends like b-hop are made of...

After watching this video, I would say B-Hop is my favorite boxer. Yeah, Roy Jones was better, Floyd was better, a lot of them were. But this guy understood life from a very early age. He knew boxing was a TOOL, a resource to get him and his family where he couldn't be otherwise. This comes to show that one thing is education, and another very different one is WISDOM. Bernard might lack the first, but he surely has a lot of WISDOM. #Respect

In "Blood Meridian" Judge Holden is asked how to raise children and he says to his captive audience "...throw them in with wolves..." When a man says that's nonsense, Holden says, '"Wolves cull their own.'" I didn't apply that to my family until I was older, but it is a perfect sentiment for those of us who have brutal families. Once I was culled from the pack, joined the military and came back on my first leave, I was an alpha and didn't need those mfers anymore. I didn't have the means to help my siblings, but then their experience was markedly different from my own. Point being: if your family is shit, be your own man. Don't wait to be cast aside; just go your own way.

You think about those boxers that made a ton of money and died or have nil to show for all of their hard work. Hopkins was a wolf that turned around to help the lambs in his family. A great moral victory to him in that he turned around the wolf/lion outcome in his life. The wolf had become the protector over the lambs. Great job and you have certainly inched higher on my list of noteworthy fighters. Salute

So the question becomes, what is the defining quality of agelessness? The sheer desire to compete-whether rational or not-or is it based on those who continue to fight and achieve some level of success? And at what age does a fighter transition into the period of his career when his deeds in the ring characterize him as ageless?

Being inactive for two years at his age will let father time catch up. Smith wasn't supposed to be a tough fight for him. He probably felt his body could do it for him one last time. I knew he was done when they showed him loosening up in the locker room. His mitt work was horribly inaccurate, and slow, it looked like he couldn't pull the trigger.
