Why is Bernardo a six time world champion? Look how focused and engaged he is and the enthusiasm he brings to try the position in every video he puts out. Bernardo signify's how a black belt is supposed represent this art by being a great student.

I’m only a 1.5y white belt, however I always try to do my best, as both a student to higher belts and teacher to beginners. - I feel like I improve so much faster, by incorporating the teacher-student relationship with my sparring partners and not only my teacher. - I also need to continually remind myself to not beat myself up, about losing to higher belts and talented bjj enthusiasts. Some days I need to remember to focus on submissions, and other days we work defending and sweeping.

@mov1987 I don't think that's entirely accurate. Marcelo's game is based off of the judo concept of Kuzushi, which he employs copiously because he comes from Judo. It is his kuzushi that he does which makes us think it is about speed and strength, but it isn't necessarily so.

This was by far the best explanation of an elbow escape. I literally just left the mat and we were being taught based on a wide/loose mounted position. But this is like watching a lecture on university level mathematics. I just about understand enough to understand that I don’t understand shit, since I have no frame of reference for any of this. But hey, that’s what makes it interesting. I’m prob going rewatch this video a hundred times following weeks and months.

These New Zealanders are so tuned in it's incredible. Anyone familiar with rugby knows how well thought out everything they do is. It seems that John Danaher has taken a lot of these philosphies/strategies into BJJ. I don't know if it's a consequence of their education system or what it is, but it's fascinating. The All Blacks in rugby are known as innovators, with attention to details. However, they are also known for their adherence to basics, fundamentals and tradition. It's what sets them apart and allows them to function so well as a unit. This adherence to the shrimp, the respect for something that most of us take in almost a blasé fashion..well it's the same idea and the reason his team.are the best. Fascinating.

On the note of education i believe he was in a philosophy doctorate program when he was younger and if you ever hang around and discuss things with people like that or especially learn a skill with someone like that you see them trying to break everything down to its most essential form and questioning everything.

7:50 into this instructional is probably most important step. I'm a white belt and rolled with purple belt yesterday evening. I have been trying this move and noticed if you're not power shrimping properly then it's useless. You must get on your side. Also at 11:05 this detail is crucial. The hand must address the opponents knee correctly. Thanks for this amazing video!!
