Hey Will, great blogs and webinars, thank you! If you get the chance would be interesting to see you check out the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. I find them a whole different dog from the Berner, I became interested in them when I got Enzo 3/4 Berner, 1/4 shepperd. I don't know but I do suspect you would or already do if familiar with them one of the best all around family guard dogs.

I wonder if you crossed a Bernie with a Rottie to get a little more innate intuitive protection and a dog whose looks would slip under the radar of stiff bans and ignorant prejudices. Answer me this please if you know anything about genes if you wanted it to look more like one breed or the other, which should the mother be? Anybody? Not just Will, but anybody can answer me on the genetic outcome and looks. But I especially want Will's opinion on behavior and such. And is it a good candidate for off-leash since it is a hunting dog who's kind of a velcro lapdog on one side and a multi-purpose wannabe lapdog with high prey drive on the other? Thanks for any help anyone may offer, and thank you Will for your Shows, all the knowledge, and answer(s) to these questions of mine. P.S. would a cross with Doberman keep the dog by my side regardless of leash better than using Rottweiler for the cross?

Did you already get your answer?

@@yunobog7525 No, but I get better and quicker responses from the Rocadog channel, and I found out from them/him that the mama dog is more likely the determiner of outcome more often than the sire as to size and temperament tendencies, even looks. I'm thinking that if there is a quality or qualities you want to inject into another breed's qualities, consider the dam very carefully. Between the Rottweiler and the Doberman as a dam, it is more likely that because of the head size of the mountain dog as the potential sire, the Rottweiler would be able to birth the pups without a problem, over the Doberman's genetic coding to give birth to narrow-headed progeny out of a narrow pelvis. Big-headed Mastiff breeds have a high % of needing C-sections/hyster0tomies (not hysterEctomies, they take the babies out - not the uterus) ... then do a little research on % of death from C-sections in the particular breed of the prospective dam and find out whether the breed of the dam is sensitive to anesthetic or not because "that's a thing", I've discovered. Determine whether you want to make a bet on that or not... but I can't find enough information concerning section frequency in Rotties. I have entered the question so many different ways on the search line I've gone crazy and want to pull my hair out. I can only assume that they must not need them very often as I only found one video of a situation where one baby was a little too big to come on out and got stuck in the birth canal; there were two left and Mamadog was running out of steam and there's a couple of other words for the conditions that can delay the birth but I don't know which one applies, but the considerations are large head and long birth canal still has me voting for Rottweiler as being they perspective mamadog for that hybrid. Doberman has too many possible delicate physiological or disease propensities or issues. Likewise, there are too many delicate issues with the Bernese Mountain Dog for it to even be considered as the mamadog as far as I am concerned. Also found out that several breeds are even sensitive to Ivermectin, which is a heartworm preventative and sometimes used as a flea preventative. Whatever happened to just good old dogs that could be bread when you wanted without having to involve veterinary services or be worried about whether there is a drug sensitivity or the potential for loss of life of the female and its pups besides? But we all know the answer to that rhetorical question don't we? Generations upon generations of inbreeding, and, even though they may be not-too-close consanquinous cousin joinings, they nonetheless beget progeny whose DNA tests to be consistent with brother/sister, daddy/daughter, mama/son progeny. We only have to look at the history of royals of Europe intermarrying and the rich such as the dopants in America all to keep bloodlines Pure as they thought and to keep money and power and lands belonging to the family. Look at the instances of maniacal behavior various mental problems, schizophrenia, personality disorders, obsessive cruelty, rages, idiocy, congenital defects, still births, infant mortality, children who do not make it to a year old or 5, or 10,, infertility, blue urine, blue skin, organ insufficiencies, propensities for certan inherited diseases do you families marrying other family members who pass on the same mutated gene increasing the inevitability it will be passed on to further generations of progeny. People have done it to dogs the way the Royals did it to each other.
