Completely changed my mind about Jack Black after this. Extraordinary performance.

I don't know whether having a spoiler that's carefully avoided during the actual review in the video description is the greatest idea.

1. This is the first time in years that I've seen a Jack Black film and haven't utterly despised him. He's actually quite good in this and the film is quite too. 2. The "faux" talking heads in the film aren't faux at all. They're the actual townsfolk commenting on the real-life case.

I just watched this last night. I have to say, I didn't consider it to be all that black, or all that comic. It's very good though, with complex and appealing characters drawn from life. Most interesting for me is that, aside from the important plot characters, the interviews appear to be with actual townsfolk, talking about the real Bernie.

Agree, I think Jack Black only shows half his true potential. When he does the "Jack Black" thing well it really does work such as "School of Rock" or "Evil woman" a lesser known flick but one I enjoyed none the less. I would love to see someone like the late\great Frank Waldman who wrote some of the classic "Pink panther" flicks write something for Jack Black. The way Frank did for Peter Sellers, Question is who in todays world could do the same for Jack.!

The character reminded me too much of zach galfinakis' in the campaign.

I saw this a long while ago in the states, didn't really do much for me. When hearing it was based on a true story I expected more. MacLaine's performance of course was great though, her character was truly infuriating. I agree with Mark that its nice to see Jack not doing the 'Jack Black shtick'. Also Mark I'm not sure if you have ever mentioned/noticed this but in the last 5 years or so a lot of big budget movies have more action scenes at night, I think to also deter piracy? what do u think?
