With an idea we got from Isaac over at Big Bike BMX, Bernie creates his own seat clamp hack of a solution to a problem we sometimes face. Find out what he did and see how Kevʻs mistake actually turned out to be an improvement!

Looking SICK!! The Redline cranks look so much better than the GT…it was meant to be. That chain is perfect!! Would like to see the gum walls and the Brooks seat. That GT seat is comfy, but doesn’t look as cherry as the rest of the build. Mahalo Kev and Bernie…love the long format personally. 🤙🤙🤙

Hi Kevin and Bernie, love your videos by the way. Just as a little tip when using the tool on the second bearing, use the flat side of the tool, not the stepped side for the bearing that has already has been fitted, if that makes sense. There's less chance to damage the bearing and it will be easier to align the tool correctly.

Yeah, we made two miskates in that video by not using the Stolen spacer which weʻll fix before we start the next build video. Once the bike is done, Iʻm gonna ride it to see how the laid back post feels and if itʻs too far back, Iʻll switch to the straight. Same with the tires. You guys made the right move. Besides. Redline flight cranks are far superior to those power series cranks hands down. You get me so geeked up with ideas. I just bought dk 26 ledgend. The guy rode it around the block once. Got it for 385. The second best bike I have ever had next to when my father bought me a decked out to the max pro neck national pro in 85. It's chrome with some red. I'm gonna put hutch pedals on it. That bike looks sick!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work guys.

Great clamp hack!! You should have left that dime in there, haha! I'm not sure about the lock nuts. I would need to see them closer. Y'all cut the video there. If they are the only bolts holding the hub parts together, they are surely necessary. But if there were extra bolts on there for different types of spacing, then yah you should be fine. But when you first put it near the dropouts (before the video edit cut), it looked very close. You probably could have just pulled on the frame a little. I've had to do that many times, where the dropouts are just a couple mm too close.

I noticed when you pushed on one of the brake arms, around 1hr 6min, it didn't spring back very strong. Before there is tension on them, the spring should be strong. I almost always use the middle hole, but sometimes you have to use one of the other spring holes if the spring is not strong enough. It could also be binding from the paint removal. I would make sure the boss is sanded enough, clean, and then a little grease. And if that doesn't help, try another spring hole... Threaded post brake pads are for your type of brakes, any rim brake that needs a threaded post. There are brake pads with posts that are smooth/ non-threaded. You might want to take the v-brake style washers off your Box pads and put them on the yellow pads. They will help with towing the pad, which will help with noise.

Coming along nicely! I think the black seat and tires are ruining it though. Yellow or blue tires, and a white or yellow seat would look good. I think the bike deserves better pedals than the haros, some other platform pedals that arent blue perhaps. I think you guys should check out more new school parts for park/street bikes. Maybe do a new school style build?
@cruisinginthe808
@cruisinginthe808 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, not sold on the seat but the white GT seats Iʻve seen and actually bought, are tinted yellow I think from being old stock. Here in Hawaii we have a lot of red dirt and I have blue tires on my Big Ripper which are a pain to keep clean. I would have to scrub the tires every few weeks or so and Iʻm just over that. Thatʻs why we only go with black tires now. I have the Gary Turner/Billet BMX platforms heading our way but the USPS is super slow with how it was shipped so weʻre waiting on that. If you look at our other bike build videos on our channel, youʻll see that we have built other bikes with new school parts. For this GT build, originally I wanted it to be a tribute bike to the yellow GT that Eddie Fiola had. But once I saw the Gary Turner/Billet BMX parts, I was like, ahhhhh, I need those! Stay tuned! as far as i can remember bmx racing bikes was allways about upgrading parts , and still is. i mean you really have to no matter what bmx racing has evolved for the best. we have better frames made of carbom fiber. we got better hubs then phil wood. so in true bmx tradition you really should use better modern parts . i mean i get the retro thing, but ok heres a example in the s my neoghbor had a supergoose totally upgraded. phil wood hun titron pedals. cw mini bars, sew ups, shimano 3 piece cranks, he really had the best of everything and it looked AMAZING. so if you use those parts now its still a downgrade for whats out there. as far as im concerned you have to constantly be aware of whats new, and who is makeing the best part you need. im just saying. more importantly tho is friendship. i love watching you guys have fun building your friendship and bikes at the same time. i love watching you guys having fun doing what you like. IMO thats the best part of BMX. 😃

Totally get where you are coming from. There are so many great parts out there from good people like the Knight Bike Co, Billet BMX, Ride Out Supply, Evil Alloy, etc. For this build though, I wanted it more as a tribute bike to what Eddie Fiola rode which is why I chose the old school brakes. But as soon as I put on the Gary Turner/Billet BMX parts, that kinda went out the door! Weʻll see how they end up and if they donʻt work out, we can always change it later. Yep, agree with you on the friendshiip part! Bernie and I really do enjoy getting together whenever we can and I hope it shows! Appreciate you taking the time to share this with us and thanks for watching! 🤙🏻

Kevin Kevin Kevin, I was screaming at the screen, do not use that stock GT bottom bracket when you almost decided to go back to it, I can tell you it’s just junk, I pulled mine out after 6 months and the bearings were just a rusted mess, the dust cover seems to be made of a fibrous material and if it gets damp it just falls to bits, I noticed every morning my crank wouldn’t turn and had to be freed up, when I pulled the bearings they looked like they’d been buried in a lake for 20 years, I thought maybe they were just cheap bearings for the bike but I looked at a pack of GT bearings in my local shop and they’re the same, also I’ve owned my 26” pro for about 18 months, I used it for about 8 months on my daily commute and I ride most weekends on a 26 mile trail route which at times is pretty rough, I often use my local BMX track as well and that frame is as tough as they come, you have no need to worry kev it won’t snap, it will take dirt jumps I’ve tried it, it might not take X Games style dirt jumping but who does that on a 26” BMX anyway, fantastic job guys, throw those GT bearings out and never be tempted to use them lol you made the right choice 😅

Haha! Well at the time I realized my stupid mistake, I almost had no choice! But it seems we made another mistake in using the 22mm spacer on the 19mm spindle so weʻll have to fix that in the next one. Appreciate you sharing your experience with the bearings on your GT. That can help others who read this! Thanks also for sharing your info about the frame being strong enough. I think another viewer shared that it was the GT Pro Series that had that frame issue. Misinformation from the person that told you about this GT prone to cracking...The GT Pro series alloy frames are the ones that are known to crack from lots of jumping and abuse. Not the Pro Performer!!! The pro performer is made of cromoly steel. If anything the tube will bend.... Not crack!!! I've seen SE and even Haro frames crack from abuse....

Thanks man! Yeah, another viewer said he runs his Pro Performer hard and has never had a problem! Thanks for sharing that and for watching! 🤙🏻

It’s not gonna look like Eddie Fiola‘s bike at all with all that billet BMX parts on it I like billet parts, but just not on a bike you’re trying to replicate

Yeah, I hear you. I realized that too once I decided to pick them up. But weʻll see how this goes. Thanks for sharing that and for watching! 🤙🏻

Why didn’t Bernie notice that it was 19 mm and 22 mm when he had both spacers in his han

We just missed it! I was only looking at the length of both of the spacers not thinking about the actual diameter of the spacer as well. Live and learn! Thanks man! 🤙🏻
