I love that they performed this song slower than I’ve heard elsewhere! It really allows you to hear all of the individual parts!!! Love it!! Great performance!!!

Ah! The critics. Too slow. Too fast. Whatever. Music is a living breathing entity and subject to a myriad of interpretations. Bernstein himself varied greatly throughout his life on tempi, balance, and phrasing. I think you will find that Col. Fettig did his research and had good reason for this tempo. Music doesn't have to be FAST to communicate urgency.

@daniel coffin Well....that's a matter of interpretation, isn't it? IMO, they play it pretty quickly.

@daniel coffin They played it this way so you can hear the different colors of instruments and to hear individual parts that are very interesting when you take in all that is happening. But I mean everyone has their thoughts but they still played beautifully.

I am playing this piece with Marywood University's Wind Symphony. Our conductor is taking this at the slower tempo that this is conducted in, I very much prefer playing this piece, and the overall sound of it, in this slower tempo.

At least it's clean. Most recordings I've heard are sloppy. This isn't a easy piece.

They also make mistakes in this one tho. It should go faster. I played 3rd horn in this piece once. One of the hardest piece I have ever played.

Chris Coomer Can you explain?

Chris Coomer Ahh, thanks for explaining! I can see it as a frantic movement

Listen to the 1977 recording of Bernstein conducting the Israel Phil in Berlin. It's about this tempo. Even the composer changed tempos throughout his life.

Profanation - the act of profaning; desecration; defilement; debasement. Jeremiah is considered a prophet in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. His time included the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of Solomon’s Temple.

I’m sure the guy conducting with a PhD in music knows more about music than you do.

He’s conducted it at different tempos through the years.

@@brianjungen4059 Please point to one...by Bernstein...that is this slow There are several high school band recordings that are more Bernstein similar tempo than this one

@daniel coffin What a totally inane thing to write. Bernstein's own performances varied throughout his life. He tended very fast and "devil-may-care" in his youth, but became much more introspective and yes, a bit slower, in his old age. Trust me. The conductor did his research, and the tempo is entirely justified. Had he wanted to take the piece faster, the band would have responded with great precision and musicianship. Please stop displaying your ignorance for all to see.

@@LyleFrancisDelp Do you have a link to a Bernstein performance that is taken at this slow of a tempo? I personally have seen many on here and have never seen it taken this slow
