There's a lot to learn from this story. But I think one of the things I really caught was that Guts and Griffith are not only obsessed with each other but they're both opposite sides of the ends that's why there'a always an attraction between them. The first thing you see of Guts is that he is not a person to be controlled (when the guy asked him to be part of the mercenary) and so he rejected it by saying "you can't eat food". A very simple and right to the point guy. But after meeting Griffith although rejected him at first. Then did anything for Griffith. Going to the length of deserting Griffith for the cause of wanting Griffith to be his friend; (being controlled of Griffith's thought's on him). Now for Griffith he always saw people as means to an end including Casca. But Guts was different. He forgot his dreams and succumbed to his feelings and rage from Guts leaving him and also protecting Guts every chance he gets in the battlefield. Guts even asked him why he protects him and he answered with not having a reason (instinctual love and humanely affection that Griffith lacked), which is pretty odd of him because he always has a reason or a plan for doing something. They both changed eachother one for better and the other for worse. For me it really represents an obssesive toxic relationship one can have with the other. It's like you finally find the missing piece or somethint you didn't know you needed only for it to be lost. And then that love turns into pure hatred. If it's up to them they'll keep on chasing eachother for the end of time.

I have a theory that Griffith is actually a God and was always a God just in temporary human form. He even took the human form again later on. When he became Femto, he just took back his original form. He always felt otherworldly and a God cannot be judged or at least condemn based on human laws/logic. It does not make what happened to Casca okay, but it does make it really hard to classify and react to.
