Berthe Morisot was a talented young painter when she united with a group of revolutionary painters known as the Impressionists. Morisot exhibited in the ground-breaking Impressionist exhibitions, sold paintings at considerable prices and inspired her brother-in-law Édouard Manet in the use of colour. Art historian Jacky Klein explores the story of this gifted female Impressionist painter.

I first heard of Berthe Morisot when I visited the Monet museum in Paris. When I turned left and walked into a room, in front of me was Fillette au Jersey Bleu. I instantly fell in love. I wish this exhibit would come to the United States. Incidentally, I also learned that Monet can only truly be appreciated by seeing his work in person. Rising sun, for example. You will apply suntan lotion if the original is in front of you.

Wonderfully presented. With style and a very Lovely Lady with excellent speaking voice. I do Voice Over work and so have a good ear for talent. I was reading the Guy De Maupassant short story, Two Friends and it had a character in it named Morissot... and while looking for the correct pronunciation came across this nice presentation.

She was a great Artist, she hang out with the elite/best painters and she was recognized during her life time - to the contrary some peple trying to imply. Forcefully and unnaturally condacted presentation - better say more about her work instead in every sentance reapeating woman, woman, woman, woman. Say more painter!

The child she was supposedly nursing, in 1895 at the age of 54, was her only child Julie, born November 14, 1878.... also, the artist Degas's name is not pronounced 'DAgas,' but DEgas. No accent on the e. Sorry, a pet peeve.

"Nursing" as in tending to her sick 16-year-old daughter. Not breastfeeding. Took me a little bit to wrap my head around that lol

Her comment about men's view of women, although perhaps improved, is still valid. Man and woman were created equal. The curses for rebellion were difficult work and troubled male-female relationships (Genesis 3). Society doesn't mind working against difficult labor, but women are still considered inferior. Jesus Christ came to break curses.

Stop rewriting history, Morrisot didn't invent Impressionism: When the first Impressionist exhibition was held in 1874, Morisot joined the group and agreed never again to send work to the Salon. Morisot was a faithful exhibitor at all eight Impressionist exhibitions (1874-1886). Like the other Impressionist painters, she was preoccupied by capturing light, but she also used broad strokes of colour that echo what she had observed in Manet’s work.

Some like to say that Turner w's late style was the vanguard of impressionism.
